Travel / Just back from Krakow [120]

Shelley,

it is not so bad in Krakow I think. I just understand you as you are English so you feel a little embarrassed with people like this.

it is the same with me if I see drunk, rough polish people on the streets in England I don't feel so good about it.

IZBA WYTRZEZWIEN-:) As British people are seen in Poland as well-off, if drunk and aggressive they will be probably driven there. Next morning , surprise, surprise- nice bill like for stay in good hotel.

But I don't know if it is the same rule there for polish like for foreign citizens? Can police just take theme there?

Life / Why are Poles always so miserable? Why do they never smile? [512]

Exactly what is the meaning of artifical , forced smile to stranger?

For me, I found quite annoying ( get used to it now) lots giggling of some of british people at things which are not funny at all. it is like kind of ????? hiding embarrasement of it is not much to say you can always giggle. But I accept it , it is a part of culture here I guess.

Just go out tonight and have fun.Few drinks, more beer bottle labels to collect ,some laugh.

I can't believe everyone in Warsaw ( about 2 million) is miserable?

You you just sit at computer and .....:(

I am also back from Krakow but I was there only for a week. For me it was more like visiting my hometown not much of touristic trip

I don't know about this smile? Does everyone smile in England? Not really.
I think that we are in general rather reserved nation so maybe not smile so much to strangers( maybe it is our culture ) but it doesn't mean taht we are miserable.

Travel / Warsaw or Krakow in October? [29]

it is cheaper. In general public transport in Krakow i Warsaw is good. Trams are only withing towns border buses go to further outskirts.
Everything depends on when you live- if it is bigger development with lots of flats - buses and trams go ( appr) every 10 minutes at rush hours and every 15-20 non-rush hours.

If you live in more quiet development ( mainly houses) they go probbaly each 20-30 minutes.( or even every hour)

I don't know so well Warsaw as Krkaow but I would say that it is easier to get without car in Krakow.

Warsaw is bigger ,wider so you probbaly need more car . Krakow is smaller, older( not much parking spaces especially in the centre)

Warsaw is more expensive than Krakow but if someone think about looking for a job there are more opportunities there.

Krakow is pretty, romantic, with slower pace of live . I would saykrakow is a town of culture and history and Warsaw is a town of business.

Law / Hiring a Polish Worker - Pros and Cons [107]

I think that England is getting too crowdy , emigration is good but with some boundries.
But again.....it is only government politics that can change.
It makes me feel uncomfortable but I noticed that press( daily mail) have now lots articles about emigration ,polish people here . I know that it is to warn people about Bulgaria and Romania joining UE but i think that it makes unpleasant atmosphere.

About 12 people in one house- I live in quite nice new development in Peterborough and we have our website. I was reading letter from someone quite frightened when he saw 10 young polish men moving to house next to.And ..... he doesn't complain at all they work hard, are quiet he even lent them his tv as they were bored between shifts.

he was only laughing that some of these lads mown lown only in their pants.
But maybe thye feel like in english saying "home is my castle".

Law / Hiring a Polish Worker - Pros and Cons [107]

excuse me, a person cannot access unemployment benefits from day 1, has to be

working for 12 months and on the books Lef, What do you mean????
What do you mean by day one? Why if someone never worked has to be paid benefits? is it very moral?

a person staying in poland pernamently is not covered with free hospital/medical care,,,

Is it in Australia, USA....anywhere?

Poland is in UE so we are covered by health care as UE members the say appy for people from UE who get ill in Poland.

It is agreement between these countries.
What do you mean some stays permanently in Poland - if he is working pays taxes he is covered by helath care. If not- he needs insurance.

If I am to go to USa I need insurance as nooe will pay for me if I am ill.

Decorator,

Whom do you blame for open borders?- It is yout government decision.

I moved here four years ago as I marrried English person. I needed visa( paid for it) had interview with british consul in Warsaw. My first visa was only for a year , next was indefinite.

before we joined UE every time I was visiting Poland and coming back here I really hated stupid questions in customs like- Why do you travel on your own? -what is the purpose of this question? Am I muslim wife that I have to travel with my husband?

So I didn't enter this country so straightforward.
I think that lots polish people here boost your economy because they are overskilled for jobs they do but....yes you can't blame us for emigration politic but your government.

Love / Polish Girls vs Russian Girls [813]

I have noticed this and it always amazes me....I think that the men are insecure and having an ugly girlfriend makes them feel good about themselves.

I think you are right.

I remember reading some articles about disabled women in England married to healthy, good looking men who loved and respected them.
I can't imagine to see many coupleas like this in Poland.
I don't understand it as people from west seem to be more materialistic and juddging more by "outside look " than "inside"

I see on this forum lots praise towards polish men I suppose i am more sceptical- I will probbaly get myself in trouble here as I find English men more good looking and sexy but probbaly less less romantic.

I think it is not fair to compare polish girls with girls from western Europe since there are many differences in income etc.British girls may feel men are not worth for any sacrifice of themselves even if that is only to lose some pounds. If polish girls had the same opportunities etc maybe they would not date anyone ugly or poor at all and would be far more discriminative. There is one proportion of culture and one of realistic circumstances that influence girls attitude.I would compare british with german or scandinavian girls, but not with polish girls.Polish girls get compared with local girls when they move abroad but when in Poland I think it is better to compare them to czech, slovak and russian girls.

I am not so sure what you mean?
Lots polish girls are educated, independent with good income.......why can't we compare them to English women?

I guess probbaly it is polish culture that people look in funny way on woman in certain age who is unamrried?
So poor polish girl has to be slim, good looking to catch husband as quickly as possible?

Love / Polish Girls vs Russian Girls [813]

southern,
Your are quite right in your opinions about polish, english girls.
But it can be sometimes generalizing. I met in England quite a few delicate, clever ,pretty nice girls. Quite normal.
On the other hand- I noticed in Engand some ugly girls( who don;t bother about it) with good looking boyfriends who are attracted to them. In Poland women are more careful about their look and it is much more difficult for ugly girl to find boyfriend. Why? are we more shallow and looking at appearance than people from west?

About Russian girls- I don;t know much about their personalities but they are often overdressed and with too big make-up for occasion.

Love / English Men vs Polish Men [207]

My English boyfriend was a multi-millionaire - and he still never paid for me, not even a cup of coffee, in 7 years of a relationship.

English men are notoriously mean with money.

Yes, some English women are very independant, but a lot of us still hold old-fashioned values. I have always been independant money-wise but not emotionally.

Technically we don't need men any more. We can have babies via a sperm bank, we can look after ourselves emotionally, physically, materially.

I don't know if English men are more mean with money then polish?????
I think that it depends on person. I suppose that your millionaire boyfriend had some strange principles and maybe was a little mean?

I am thinking about men ( friends, coleagues) i knew in Poland and in England and don't see big difference.

I think what English men sometimes miss is some spontaneous romantism.

There is one thing here in England I don't understand so much. There are married couples who have one joint account where they both pay some money for bills, mortgage and remaining money they have in their own accounts for themself. What is it? business agreement that if they divorce split house in half? . My friend -polish was in relationship like this with her English husband. She thinks it wa ok.

I couldn't stand like this- since we married everything is ours - mot mine and yours.

Love / English Men vs Polish Men [207]

missingfromheaven,

I am married to Englishman but I think that he changed so much with me. He says that he is half-polish.

You are right about paying in restaurants, equality- But I am not so sure if it is only men to be blamed. Don't you think that English woman got so independent that they scare men? It is my impression.

I suppose my husband was not so bad. He always paid for me when we were dating. But it was more long -distance relationship for a while. I suppose if we were living both in England it would be nice if he paid for me from time to time but you can't expect man to pay always.

Law / Hiring a Polish Worker - Pros and Cons [107]

Poland would not be able to offer an western worker nothing, no access to medical care, unemployment benefits and I'm sure most poles would say "what are you doing here?, "go back to your own country" a western worker would not survive one day in poland.

completely, not true.

Of course that Poland provides medical care,
unemployment benefits? You get them in England after working for a year.

Why would we say go to your own country? We have in Krakow quite a few people from Wietnam, China...they do quite well.
About west europe the problem is with salary- there are some people but employed by foreign companies (Banks, CU) and paid foreign salary otherwise they wouldn;t be attracted here as Poland has quite high unemployment and lower salary.

You seem lef to have very bad opinion about polish but as I rememebr you were not born in Poland- I can't believe taht after few visits to Poland you knwo so well our mentality.

wat does the administator mean by poles prefering a foreign boss over a polish one?

it is something about our mentality we always worry that polish boss will trick us or will not pay enough. But it is not always the case.

Law / Hiring a Polish Worker - Pros and Cons [107]

What do you mean half of their wages? As I know there is minimum wage in England about 6 pounds so I can't belive someone was earning £12 was redundand and polish earn now £6 ? What job was it?

What is wrong with polish saving and having cars? are you jealous?
I would say that lots of English got quite lazy under Blair over "benefitted" system so some fresh blood of efficient polish workers will do only good to this country.

Just healthy capitalism- emplyee choose better worker. And unemplyment is so law in England so what's the problem? Most polish people work legally pay taxes, NI.
