Life / Favourite Polish movies? [107]

I quite liked dzien Swira....maybe i am bit weird?:)

I have heard about polish writer katarzyna Grochala and when I was last time in Poland i bought DVD "Nigdy w zyciu" I haven't seen it yet but it seems to be good little romantic film.

I quite like some of old polish comedies like: Jak rozpetalem II wojne swiatowa,Kogel-Mogel, Kingsajz, Vabank....

I am not big fan of Keslowski.....he is so sad, gloomy,......depressing....

Life / Do you think that Polish people are rude? [951]

I think that is totally unfair, Iwona askes in a positive way, she is not having a dig, she is merely showing cultural differences and asking the reasons behind it, one thing I do find the most irritating is when people spell others names incorrectly! Iwona...not Ivona...

Thank you Amathyst, it looks that my post was taken again in wrong way.

Another difference I have found is that we tend to smile to be polite whilst in Poland this did not seem to be the case. Is it because you smile only when you find things amusing?

That is true we don't smile as much as you and it is bad. Maybe we are more grumpy???? Or again culture differences. When people smile to you it makes you feel better.:) :) :) :)

You always are so critical of people living in GB. why don't you pack your bags and return to your beloved Poland...Ivona you must walk around with a broom stuck up your backside...I am the best, I am the best, you are SH.T

COMPLETELY NOT TRUE

Life / Do you think that Polish people are rude? [951]

On more thing I noticed.

Ok polish people are shorter with please,...how are you.....but When I phone someone I always introduce myself- I did it in Poland adn I do it in Engand.

WHY PEOPLE IN ENGLAND DON'T DO IT????????.

Customer phones and says...helo...Do you want my account number.....but Who are you?
The same people from our branches or differetn institutions.Soemtimes they do soentimes they don't.
I can understand they want to get to the point but....I find it little rude.
The same I answer my colleague phone and soemone askss...is it .( Anne , Sam)...there but who are you?

Guest, I know what you mean.

We have some phonecalls from Spain, Gibraltar...They are direct, bit loud- I don't find them rude at all but some English people do.

In our language we don't use so often please, thank you.....How are you...How are you doing .....But this is just language.

I am in general polite person but sometimes when i answer phone at work and someone says hello, Are you all right ....I don't like it. Hello, Good morning is needed and polite but later I usually go straight to the point.

I really don't like it "are you all right".....What is the point of it? This person doesn't know me personally and is not interested if I am "all right" or not.

Life / What I miss and don't miss about Poland [64]

lef,

there are 2 different things- few drinks to relax and binge drinking.

My reply was to Davidpeake about English in Poland.

You must be living with lots of strange people, life without a drink would be very dull

maybe, for me listening to all crap said but drunk people is dead dull.

The problem is that heavy drinking is promoted and fashionable and cool in UK.

Even in the papers you can see pictures of prince Harry or William pissed.....
So- even if some young people don't really enjoy big drinking they do it to be accepted.

I miss....

trams
-nice , cosy coffee bars with fresh coffes, milk shakes ( fresh) , cakes
-food juice bars
-architecture
-chats with my friends
-polish romantism and craziness
-feeling of belonging there ( I will never feel it in UK)

I don't miss- all situatuin on the work market. Unamplyment, unfair treatmetnt and taking advantage of emplyees.

But they slowly start in Krakow.

In Poland we have equivalent called "wieczor panienski", "wieczor kawalerski".....but it is probbaly not so mad.

We can afford and bought house but not everyone can and not everyone wants ....

Although my husband is English and we don't live, like some Polish families, in a council flat or 6 to one house,.....

Annamaria,

Don't be upset. When peple write ( no body language, nop tone of voice...) they are not always understood exactly the way they want to.

I also found your statement bit superior but maybe it was not your intend..

"Council house" sounds bit negative but there are lots people who live in council houses and pay rent to council.Soemtimes they buy this house later form council.

What is wrong with it? No everyone can afford to buy house.

Yes, when a Pole wants to moan they winge about the British, if they can’t find a Russian, Jew, somebody with a better suntan than them, German…

British are far on our list....you forgot about government, politicians, Church.....

We could both write a book about our "whinging international experiences" as you have polish grilfriend an I have English husband.:)

Also, the so-called Healthy Life Expectancy in the UK is actually lower than in Poland.

I am not so sure what is it but I have impression that people in UK live much longer than in Poland.
We burn ourselves too quickly.

Rafik,

I think that lots polish people in UK rent houses, flats.....

But if someone moves here with family it should be relatively decent one.

That is why I still don't know why they move here....I am not malicious it is just curiosity?

UK has a lower suicide rate than any of the countries mentioned, so we may be unhappy but we are less suicidal

But you are quite big whingers and moaners...:)

I know what you mean. But do you think that these children speak so good 2 languages? Moving them between 2 countries different language, culture, school programmes?

Isn't it a bit selfish?

I don't think that living children in Poland is so good idea. They should be with parents.
I just don't know if theya re relaly so better off doing it?

It could be really better for those still living with their parents in some crowded conditions.

Not really it depends what they want to gain in their lives. ( it doesn't matter in Poland or England....)

Life / Alcohol problems of Polish people [141]

Oh, I don't care about that. I had my fun a travels in life. If I slow down a little it doesn't mean that I am not cool. I never really cared what other thought of me, but what I think of myself.

You have good attitude.

I find it a bit shallow getting drunk.....main attitude for Saturday night.

I don't really know. It is quite individual.
