Life / What gifts to take? Presents customs in Poland. [167]

Thank you so much, jon357. I have two recently discovered cousins whose grandfather/greatgrandfather lived in Vermont for a few years before returning to Poland. I wanted to send something distinctly "American" but meaningful to my almost American family members. I will let you know how it turns out!

jon357, the syrup is currently not available, but hopefully it will soon be restocked and I will receive an email alert when this occurs. In the meantime, I started a practice order. There are MANY delivery options, most of which I am not familiar with. One gift will go to a private home in the country (near Mielec), and the other to an apartment (in Iława). Is there a preferred option for either or both in this list - screen shot as shareable file here: drive.google.com/file/d/1GgOLFeSiy7gR63MuMJG1vFsnSk0vYsUi/view?usp=sharing

A related request for advice about finding and sending a specific gift to relatives in Poland:

Are there businesses that sell maple syrup - preferably from USA, but other sources will do - in Poland? Or any that make and ship gift baskets full of food products (e.g., wine+crackers+cheese or pancake mix + maple syrup) to individuals living in Poland? I have learned that I can not mail or ship maple syrup from the USA to Poland on my own...

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

@pawian

Thanks for guidance on de-anglicizing last names. Any other suggestions for locating relatives and/or family records in Suwalki?

Merged:

Szwabowski and Galeshefski families around Suwalki

Looking for relatives of Piotrz Szwabowski (also Swaboski) (1880 - 1957) who emigrated to Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, in early 1900s. He was a coal miner. Wife was Aniela/Angeline Galoney/Zalony/Salinski/Selenski (and other variants) from the Kolbuszowa area. They settled in Swoyersville; I am one of many great-grandchildren.

His parents as listed on his death certificate are Frank Szwabowski and Frances Galeshefski.

Thank you for any additional info you can provide.

Seeking info about these families; my grandparents were Walenty Surowiec (1886-1959) from Zlotniki and Kata(r)kyna Wieczerzak, possibly from Brzyście. They arrived in northeastern Pennsylvania in early 1900s, settled first in Duryea (between Scranton and Wilkes-Barre) before moving out of the valley to a farm in the Falls/Newton-Ransom area. Walenty's brother Adam (1885-1931) is buried with them and was a partner in a short-lived lumber business with Walenty (and other Poles) in Pittston, PA.

Thank you for any info you might share!
