Law / Weapons laws in Poland. Carrying a concealed handgun? [918]

You compare yourselves to Guatemala and El Salvador ? (both countries whete US policy has had devastating effects on society by the way) ?

Compare Vermont to the richest parts of France - I dunno sonewhere like Annecy or Aix. It will have a much higher murder rate.

Travel / Poland - never again [593]

Honestly reading some of the things you say it's amazing that you managed to order a taxi and get through the check into your plane - it is simple common sense to carry some local currency, if not then it's simple common sense to learn how to use an ATM.

You are obviously fairly smart - you have a degree from a good school in Poland, you speak the language - so why didn't you just check up some basic things about availability of money changing before you left?

Food / Name of a Popular Food Program (Show) in Poland? [9]

In Warsaw in the mid 90s her restaurants were pretty much the only place where you could have a healthy, hygienic, Polish meal in nice surroundings and with good service. The only other option was in hotels like the Marriot or Sheraton. I think that of the next generation of restaurant owners maybe one third of the more training in her kitchens.

Also I doubt it was easy running any kind of business in Poland in those days, let alone something like a restaurant business.

So even though she is annoying and I agree that now she is just an image I still salute and the rest of the family for what they did

USA, Canada / Polish or American Education? [180]

Yet most blacks probably know how to use an ATM - something you were unable to do despite your degree and extensive education.

if you are a troll then its a pretty weird way to spend a sunny Saturday.

News / Israel opposing potential new Polish law to criminalise term 'Polish death camps' [1538]

Most people in Europe are grateful for US defence and for the sacrifices of US soldiers and sailors, But America join the war because ir was attacked - not because of some holy mission to create democracies

In any European democracy if the people wish for a watertight, US style of FreeSpeech then they can vote for a government the promises one.

Life / What is Poland's view on obesity? How healthy, fit are Poles? [166]

I dont know about lack of exercise- a few years ago the only gyms were for meatheads, you never saw joggers and people mainly cycled if they were going to buy another half litre.

Looking on the streets this Sunday there are nany people doing serious exercise

Montana has a murder rate 3x higher than France - no surprise as guns are freely available to the poorly educated population.

Cant be bothered to look up Wyoming but at 16 murders in 2017 it is more than your bete noire grenade throwing no go zone of Malmo.

As i understand you are about to start an MBA. So one of the first classes you will do is statistics. I am sure that will include linear regressions and six sigma etc.

So maybe correlate gun ownership to murder and adjust for other variables - Wealth, density of population, age profiles, of course your favourite ethnicity , and once you have done that I think that you will see an extremely clear correlation between gun ownership and violent death at the habds of a gunman.

Of course policymakers all over Europe have already done that work - and come to the conclusion that liberal gun laws equals a huge spike in gun violence.

Cue some nonsense about your SAT score but at the moment, like most gun nuts your logic is to conpare the most peaceful rural areas of the US with the most deprived nd crowded parts of Europe. Thats the level of debate in the US unfortunately.

You are again comparing rich rural areas of the US with entite countries. And in this case you are comparing total murders not gun murders.

The six Sigma refers to numbers of standard deviations from the expected result - so for example if there are 35 OECD countries, industrialised democraces iwith market economies, then the chance that each country has of having the highest rate of gun violence is one in 35.

The chance of one country having the highest gun murder rate 30 years in succession is one in 35 to the 29th power. That is a number that will break your calculator. It is also a number there is many standard deviation is away from the expected result.

Of course you can use linear regression to handle many more than three predictive variables - some companies like facebook use regressions and algorithms with even hundreds of variables, probably the same kind they use to interfere in your elections. The only problem is that you need to have many events to cover many variables - in the case of the US then half million gun murders over the last 20 years should be a significant enough sample size.

Of course once you get to this point in your statistics classes you can always revolutionise the academic thought on this issue by showing clearly that there is no correlation.

Given that there are no hard borders between US states; then the level of gun control at state levels is only a minor deterrent to petty or hardened criminals. Gun laws in Chicago did not matter if you can buy guns and ammo in Gary or Milwaukee and drive them to Chicago in an hour or so. That takes less than a minute of reasoning to work out.

Thank God my kids don't have to worry about school shootings. Not sure why they have never been any in Poland - maybe because we don't allow any Muslim hordes in or maybe because it's impossible to get hold of guns without a psychological test

Of course you can use standard deviation is to refer to fractional outcomes - you could for example work out the standard deviation In the result of 10 consecutive coin tosses. In fact why don't you google standard deviation of 10 consecutive coin tosses.

So think of this as a 35 sided coin Which in 30 flips always lands with the American eagle face up - not sure where that is, could be a coincidence or could be because of the high number of gun toting morons in the US.

The origin of the word six Sigma before it became a business meme is that it shows a highly unusual result - and people like Toyota or whoever try and have their errors as highly unusual.

Asked for gun laws neighbouring states - is it conceivable to you that a criminal from Chicago might borrow a gun from one in Milwaukee ?

News / Poland has accepted over a million Ukrainian refugees. Why does the EU keep telling propaganda about Poland? [304]

You claim ti despise commies but you praise an ex KGB man bent on reasserting Russian dominance in Eastern Europe.

This is a pattern that we see pretty often on this forum - someone turns up complaining about toilets or asking about the best recipe for Polish mushrooms and within for five days they decide to Lecture us on geopolitics with the decidedly pro Russian view.

USA, Canada / Why do Americans (and Canadians) hate Polish people? [226]

Ok so you cant speak Polish. Question is whether you can speak English? I have never met anyone who has used clinged instead of clung. The imperfect version is of course I was clinging.

Maybe you are more comfortable in Russian?

Yeah not many crimes - just killing journalists, poisoning people, invading neighbouring states, shooting down airliners, bribing officials, and stealing billions and billions of Russian taxpayers money ( the last one should concern concern you since you are a Russian taxpayer).

Given that, even Poland we would definitely rather the USA was in our coner, doesn't matter which idiot is in charge - could be Obama could be Trump, they are both better than the KGB thief in chief Putin.

I do not know how many people are being killed in U.S.-led wars - probably quite a few. Iraq was certainly an illegal war, Afghanistan was not.

But this is not a game of pointscoring about who is more guilty out of Russia and the USA, it is about which alliance serves Polish interests the best. The choice is between a well established democracy with a msrket system that has never invaded Poland and on the other hand a corrupt decadent oligarchy ruled by a coterie of Ex intelligence officials.

I don't know why as a Polish and American citizen you are making such a huge effort to defend Russia? Could it be because actually you are a Russian? Anyway it's getting late over there - isn't it time you caught your rickety tram homw had a plate of grey mush to go with your vodka?

Katyn was only the end of a campaign which started with Russia allying itself withh the Nazis and proceeded in the typical way with rapes, murders, deportations and wanton destruction of Eastern Poland

. You apparantly grew up in 1959s Poland so you knw the ffects of that because you said that you wished ti emigrate. But in acrual fact you grew uo in Russia, hearing tales of the Great Patriotic war (stories which conveninetly left out the rapes and the invaion of smaller neighbors like POland and Finland).

The bad guys are Russia, and despite your guff about free education communism was an unmitigated disaster for the country.

By the 1980s only Romania was poorer than Poland, people had to queue for basic necessities, there was no petrol, it was difficult to feed your kids, no luxuries unless you are Communist Or unless you had relatives in the richer, more compassionate west to able to help you.

People here are understandably very nervous about Russian interventions in Georgia and Ukraine because they do not want to return to those horrible times.

Are you still pretending to be an American or are you now concentrating all your energies on defending Russian criminality?

Dunno LDJongh but they might live there because their boss sent them to work there, or because their husband/wife wanted to be near ageing parents, or because they work for their home countrie's govt or because they are on a military posting. I lived in a few countries and it was always driven by personal circumstances rather than meaning I automatically sign up to the ruling classes views on say immigration, closing malls on Sunday, renationalizing business or free media.

I think you can add that to the list of things that nobody bothered giving any attention to before the vote !

With Medicover we have generally had a positive experience - but it's not always like you can just turn up and see someone, you might have to wait for five days and sometimes longer for an appointment. The advantage for me is that I am often working in other countries in the region, and they also have facilities in Hungary and Romania. But I am also in the ZUS systems - for instance when one of my kids had a severe problem with his leg and he went to a state hospital brackets after being seen by a Medicover doctor)

I had an operation on my knee once here and that was not covered by Medicover - I just went to a private clinic and stayed two nights and I was very impressed by the service.
