Law / Capital Gains Tax in Poland on sale of Shares abroad [4]

Hi all

I am a polish resident, born in the UK. I've lived here for just under 3 years now. I recently sold some shares in the UK which I held in a private company, I made a capital gain on the sale of these shares and am wondering how to treat it. From a UK perspective I know unless I return I won't pay CGT, however I understand I will have to pay it in Poland. Is that the case?

If so am I right in thinking that the CGT rate is a flat 19%?

Youtube video - What advice would you give to your younger self???

Hi All,

I saw a nice video a few years ago where a group of older people were giving advice to their younger selfs/younger family members about what they should do.

Was really nice as it was a slow pace, and was subtitiled in Polish and I use to share it with people learning polish. However I changed laptops and now don't have the link. Anyone know of this video and can remind me of its name?

Thanks

Work / Tax and other deduction from Salary in Poland [8]

calculla.com/salary_in_poland

This calc will help and show you the monthly net wage per month, it's based on 2015, but 2016 tax codes don't differ too much.

Life / Cost of living in Katowice, Poland [53]

@smurf
I've thought about Crime stats, I often hear foreigners tell me how safe Poland is and whilst I think that's true (it is statistically much safer than western countries), I think there is more at play here.

Unless you speak good polish and read polish newspapers and watch Polish news where crimes are often reported you don't realise that crime does exist here, statistically in most countries in west/central europe you are unlikely to witness a crime live, so I do think it's a matter of perception.

Having said that Poland is one of the safest countries in Europe :), although of course Crime does exist here like everywhere else

Best Emerging Polish Artists of 2016

Merry Xmas and a happy new year to you all.

As we close the year I thought it'd would be a great if people could reflect on the last 12 months and share any new and emerging Polish bands, artists, filmmakers etc they have found in 2016.

Particularly of interest to me is any information on good new Polish bands who've appeared this year as I often struggle to find bands I like.

Work / Salary and cost of living information - Krakow [257]

@Aksh30
If your partner/wife is also working then 20k is a very decent salary here Krakow.

Net it will be about 13.5k, which will give you enough spare to have a nice life here, given rent on top end apartment is around 3k per month,

Use this net pay calculator

Life / Moving To Krakow May (a place to live and work?) [48]

Kraków has loads going for it, lots of corporations making a job easy to find, a good standard of living and cultural life is 2nd only to Warsaw.

Great places to live here, i'd recommend in this order:

1. Podgórze - cheap, handsome tenements, on the up, close to Kazimerz, great transport links
2. Kazmierz - a bit more expensive than Podgórze but also with great transport links and closer to old town
3. Grzegorzecka area - very close to Kazmierz and Town and also handy for transport with great tram links
4. Bronowice of Krowodrza - nice places if your job takes you out that way.

Life / Cost of living in Katowice, Poland [53]

This is very sensible advice and i'd echo the point about not moving to Kato for less than 8k netto which is about 11.5k brutto

This tax calculator will help

Real Estate / Best area in Krakow to live? [43]

Hands down for me Podgórze and i've lived in the North too. I like Bronowice and Krowodrza but the tenements are much more handsome in Podgórze and it's walkable to most of the key places, plus transport links here are amazing too by Tram.

Plus podgórze feels like the real poland with bundles of coolness, although Gentrification starts to creep in with new trendy places opening up everywhere.

We are also blessed with great parks and if you can live in Stare Podgórze you'll enjoy Park Bednarskiego which is a real joy.

Real Estate / May you confirm that Podgórze (Kraków) is a great area to live in? [13]

An old post but thought i'd add my bit to it. Firstly in terms of buildings Podgórze remains very handsome, with masses of 100+ year old tenements, blessed with high ceilings and light, and whilst they are not cheap they are much more reasonable than the tenements you pick up in the old town. I live in Stare Podgórze near to Plac Bohatertów Ghetta. I love it here, we've got great parks, brilliant communication links all over the city by tram and bus (although I personally hate buses) and it's an incredibly short walk to Kazmierz if you like that district.

If you prefer to stay away from the kind of kids who haven't realised Kazimierz coolness peaked 5 years ago, then Podgórze would be highly recommended. It has so much going for it, great bars, nice off the beaten track restaurants, great cafes, and it feels like real Poland.
