Genealogy / Red Hair - recessive gene from Poland? [108]

Merged: Could I, a Polish Ginger, be descended from Scottish settlers

Hi just curious, read a couple topics indicating that red-heads in Poland are descended from Scots and Vikings. Just want to clarify, that the origins of my ancestors are unknown.

Genealogy / Are the origins of Bernatowicz French? [23]

Hi, I am currently researching Bernatowicz and it supposedly has Armenian roots. My dad's family looks Asian though and there appears to be a Tatar (Turkic) connection as well. Here is the website;

History / Whom do the people in Poland hate more: Germans or Russians? [869]

Ah Crow, you and your 'theories'. Germans are not Serbs but Germanized Sorbians, the true natives of Eastern Germany. Russians may have originally come from Polish genetics, but we are far from related, it's like comparing a German and Swedish Finn; both are Germanic but so different that the other would punch one if compared.

Crow, I don't know what planet you live on. But certainly not Earth, Gerries aren't Serbs and Serbs aren't Gerries. Simple, FULL STOP.

Are you sure InPolska? I happen to go to school with a TON of gay people, but freedom of speech I guess. Just share your opinion somewhere else, because we don't like it here ;)

InPolska, I'm afraid the dumbest person of the year award goes to yourself. First of all, you know ********* about Poland and the Polish, you Polandphobe, and second of all, we don't call gays 'sausages'? We call them Pedały! Jose is a troll, whose pov is so stupid that nobody except you or Jon agrees with him. If you don't like us, leave the forum, to be honest, nobody likes you two anyway.

So the whole of Poland should be punished because of a couple of thugs? Pfff, you're not thinking straight, better get some sleep.

Fair enough Jon, but attacks happen everywhere and not every attack is necessarily racist.

The way I see it, a country shouldn't be judged because of a couple of people. Saying that InPolska makes you a hypocrite.

Good night,
Bart out.

Ah, you see. It does happen often, however it's mostly Yanks and Brits and their superiority. It happens in 'smaller' towns such as Górzow Wielkopolski, such accounts never happen in Warsaw or Poznan; which are both 'used' to tourists.

Language / Surname suffix -dys in Poland [3]

I believe that the suffix -dyś does not exist in Poland. However the suffix -yś does. I believe that it is of Lithuanian origin and is used similar to the way -ski is used in Slavic countries. Probably patronymic, Hordyś would mean son of Hord. These surnames, however, are extremely rare and all my life, I have never met a Pole with a name ending in -yś.

Genealogy / Schalwig, Grittner, Schulz, Schmit, Szot, Bernat, Szwarc - were my ancestors Germans in Silesia, or Silesians? [22]

Merged: Polish surnames of German origin?

Hello, I'd like to create an open discussion in which everyone can contribute.

List surnames in Poland that are of Germany origin, here is the following list;

1) Szulc (Schulz)

2) Szmit (Schmit)

3) Szot

4) Bernat (Bernhardt) - My surname is actually Bernatowicz so my surname is obviously of German origin

5) Szwarcowicz (Schwartz)

Please contribute!

Genealogy / Is Poland Germanic or Slavic? [58]

Oh really? No need to apologize, my Slavic brother: it should be the Slovaks who apologize, not the Serbs. After all, they betrayed us.

Genealogy / Any one know anything of Koss surname? [22]

I apologize, I forgot to leave proof for such a simplistic guy like Crow:

Silesian GERMAN DIALECT - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silesian_German

Silesians and TYPES of Silesians - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silesians

Silesian-German just refers to a Silesian who is of German descent. Obvious isn't it?

EDIT: Polonius, it would seem so. I forgot to explain what I meant by Silesian German.

Genealogy / Is Poland Germanic or Slavic? [58]

I wouldn't put my word on it ;)

I'd think that Germans are a mix of Slavs and Germanics. After all, the ruskies did impreginate a lot of German women in ww2 ;)
