Life / Is Poland a poor country? [578]

lacking sufficient money to live at a standard considered comfortable or normal in a society.

In that case, North Koreans aren't poor if they have a bicycle and get a daily bowl of rice.

Life / Is Poland a poor country? [578]

The difference between Poland and western Europe is that people in the west can afford a better car, change their mobile phone more often, go to pub every day, and they have to work shorter to afford to go abroad for a holioday.

If the difference were not significant there would not be millions of Poles living abroad.

Just like Britons moving to Australia.

Not really. I don't think anyone moves to the UK for the weather.

Love / Polish girls attitudes towards sex. [568]

I don't often bring up the subject of masturbation when talking to females, but each to their own, I suppose.

And how do you know whether whatever it is they tell you is the truth?

Are you sure you haven't been phoning certain pay per minute lines and asking for someone to 'talk dirty' in a Polish accent?

Why ever not, this is the 21st C, not need to be sexually repressed anymore and fell ashamed of natural behaviour.

Even in the 21st century, I don't think it's something most people feel comfortable talking about.

You're never spoken about it with your partner? I find that strange.....actually I don't believe that if you've never spoken about it with any woman.

Obviously, I talk about such things. Equally obviously, I don't know whether I am being told the truth, and whether the person I am talking to is representative of all Polish women. If you had a partner with ginger pubes, would you assume all Polish women had ginger pubes?

As for your last sentence, why would I call a number to listen to a Polish accent, I live in Poland, there are Polish accents everywhere. A very strange comment to make.

The comment wasn't a 'serious' one. Have you never heard of a 'joke' or 'banter'?

History / What do Poles think about Turks? [761]

Hi,
I am a Turkish student who might come to Lodz for university. I am wondering if there is any possible racism against Turks?

There is a significant risk of racism towards you. Of course, not everyone is like this, but some are. Whether you experience any unpleasant incidents or not would depend on your luck.

Just trying to give an honest answer.

Work / Average wage in Poland (towns / cities) [23]

no we are looking to set up factory here so I am asking about polish people

Is this the best way to find out?

Where in Poland? People to do what?

If you are looking to employ unskilled workers, then you need only pay minimum wage.

Minimum is the same all over Poland. Can't you google it? Why do you expect people here to do your homework for you?

History / Communism, was it the best form of government Poland ever had? [68]

jon said a murderous communist regime which killed more than 50 thousand people in poland 'was the best form of goverment poland has ever had'. This is like saying the nazi goverment was the best form of goverment germany had.

Can you please refer to the post where he said this. I would like to see the context.

News / SPECIAL REPORT: The Brits who left the UK for a life in Poland [28]

if Poles can learn something form you or gain from you they will be queuing up the high street to be your friend/colleague

I disagree with you. If the person you are speaking to knows English at intermediate level or above they will prefer to speak English. If your accent is not perfect, then you may get ridiculed.

Why would I rely on Polish people speaking English to communicate, I live in Poland I must speak Polish.

For most practical purposes, you don't really have to. If people you speak to know English, they will generally try to speak to you in English once they realise you are foreign. That's my experience, anyway.

News / British teacher stabbed in Poland [116]

I think this is neither the right thread nor the right time for bickering or point scoring. Let's just wish the teacher concerned a full recovery.

Language / Polish was chosen the HARDEST LANGUAGE in the world to learn... :D [1558]

when I'm speaking to these people in normal conversation in Polish they can't tolerate these mistakes.

I completely disagree. I go to the shops practically everyday, and don't have the slightest problem with being misunderstood. Sometimes I get funny looks. Sometimes people correct what I have said to them. But I always get what I want without necessarily getting the grammar right.

It's possible to speak a language with terrible grammar and still be understandable.

What usually throws people is poor pronunciation. In that case, the person on the receiving end genuinely won't know what the hell you are asking for.

News / British teacher stabbed in Poland [116]

Sadly people get stabbed at house parties all the time all over the world.

Funnily enough, I've never been to a house party where anyone got stabbed.

USA, Canada / Why do Americans (and Canadians) hate Polish people? [226]

As has been said before, every ethnic group/nationality/race has its share of idiots and geniuses and the full range of normal distribution in intelligence.

Exactly.

Real Estate / Prices of agricultural land in Poland [39]

Its merely the capitalist profit machine doing what it does best.....exploiting the people.

I think Juche under Kim Jong Un is the way to go.

then seem to be obvious that that paper lies about what has happened.

Most likely they didn't 'lie', but rather misunderstood the situation (if it's the same incident).

European influence maybe, people are coming back from places and bringing back unhealthy custom form those places

It is interesting that you define Poland as being 'non-European'. I thought it would be disparaging to Poland to define it in such a way.

why don't you take an extreme polar opposite in an attempt to make a ridiculous point a bit more.

It's the only true communist country left. If 'capitalism' is the problem, then surely things must be far better in the only country in the world that rejects capitalism. Have you never considered leaving for a better life there?
