@ProudNorwegian,
Curious to your reaction when Norway's PM at the time, Dr. Brundtland, offered an adamant "NEJ, TAK!"
when a vote came to have your country join NATO way back in the mid-'80s.
Support has waned throughout much of Western Europe, I must admit.

Language / I'm native Polish and I hate my own language. [103]

You're right, paw! Why this self-hating Polish bashing? By the way, figure that jerk I encountered in the coffee shop was just an oddity and untypical of the average, friendly Poles I've met and known-:)

Language / I'm native Polish and I hate my own language. [103]

More to the point, my wife and I were at a local kawiarnia around mid-center of Garfield, NJ last Saturday early afternoon, when we encountered a youngish Polish couple with their son.

Upon hearing them speaking Polish while I was on line, by chance the husband asked me if I was standing on line as well, at which point of course, I took the opportunity to answer him in Polish, at which he seemed delightfully surprised! He then politely but insistently responded in somewhat halting, heavily accented English, inquiring why I as an American speak Polish, to which I responded that I found it easier to converse with Polish speakers in their native language. He smiled, adding that he found it funny, but enjoyed letting me practice my Polish. I then couldn't resist gently replying that I hoped he enjoyed practicing his English with me as well. His expression gradually grew intense and said that his English was just fine, thank you, and that neither he nor his wife needed any practice whatsoever!

I smiled, paid for our coffees, and left, but not without a "Trzymaj sie, panie!"

Scholz certainly has his work cut out for him!
If he's at a loss as to how to successfully unify his own party,
how on G-d's green earth can he expect to unify the country?

hhhjkg & others,
You haven't then heard the "Warszawianka" sung. If you had, you wouldn't ignorantly bad mouth Polish. I've heard Rush Limbaugh, Donald Trump over many years, yet I don't speak ill of the American English language, do I?

Are all German speakers, singers, notable actors etc. speaking as Hitler spoke, for example?
Your premise is silly!

Language / POLISH 18 - 30 years old know MUCH BETTER ENGLISH language than their own native language! [102]

@Novi, don't how many times here I've told you (and yes, I DO know better in this case!) that ease is all relative!

Don't please let European native speakers of so-called "difficult" languages sell you that bull that they prefer to speak English over their mother tongue, let alone, that they communicate better in English, because it is a bald-faced lie!!

English is as tough for Poles as Polish is for English native speakers, and so kindly spare us the public relations song and dance.

And therefore America "deserved" the Trump disaster as Germany did the Syrian debacle?! Not solely the investor should be allowed to prosper at the expense of everyone else. That's plutocracy, not democracy. Dude, your brain's on the fritz.

In a true New Deal-style democracy, the government works FOR the people, not only the reverse. Germans don't want to feel dísenfranchised any more than anybody else and it's a living tribute to the strength of post-War German democracy that they didn't elect a Trump like figure as a reaction to the Merkel fiasco. Annagret Kramp Karrenbauer would've been Merkel lite.

Following the US or Ellís Island model of Emma Lazarus fame "Give me your tired, your poor...", I don't for the life of me see how you possibly challenge my statement, B.B. German history has been radically different from that of the US and Merkel's tragic, indeed fatal, flaw will now and forever more be her outdated 6O's kumbaya idealism. As an erstwhile Merkel supporter and long time acqaintance from Berlin put ít, "Mensch, du kannst nich' eben um die ganze Gesellschaft umkrempeln!"- Geez, ya just can't take care of every Tom, Dick, and Harry out there! Ordinary, average ethnic Germans simply felt marginalízed. Similarly, Americans of like stripe felt majorly let down, even betrayed by the Democratic Party, thereby turning their backs on liberal democracy and voting for Trump. However, thank the Lord an understandably frustrated majority German electorate preferred Scholz over Hoecke and his cronies-:)
