Genealogy / What exactly is a Polish-American? [16]

Eh depends.

To me it ultimately comes down to what kind of house hold were you raised in
- Do you speak the native language
- Did you visit the other country
- Did you eat the food, learn the history, discuss the nations issues

The name on a birth certificate isn't that big of a deal. It's essentially the way your parents raised you. Because if those points above did exist in your childhood, then you will feel more a part of the other country.

Oh gotcha. Yah then that would be quite difficult to pass on. Especially 9 hour flight away from the Homeland.

USA, Canada / Would you live in California, USA? [240]

I've lived in Vista.

Where are you planning on moving from and how are you financially sustaining yourself. What are your hobbies. How far are you willing to commute to and from work, to and from beach/nightlife etc?

USA, Canada / Would you live in California, USA? [240]

California, along with the USA is certainty on the decline. Fortunately California is still (far & away) the global capital of the technology industry, thanks to Silicon Valley. But how long will this continue? As the Trayvon Martin/Zimmerman killing illustrated, expecting to avoid crime by leaving the cities is no longer the case in the USA.

San Franciso is the closest West Coast city you'll get to European lifestyle. Los Angeles is just a cesspool of weirdness. San Diego is a nice place to raise children but it's a fairly small city and thus you will be forced to live in the suburbs. Spending 10+ hours weekly in your car and hundreds of dollars a month on fuel. But it's a fairly safe and quiet (gets boring) city.

My general feeling is that unless you are wealthy (Top 2%) you will have overall superior living standards in Europe. I believe the reason more Americans don't immigrate is because of their ineptness to speak more than 1 language and no family connection.

Typical Western culture: White guys are lazy, dorks and stupid. Will we ever see blacks showcased in this role?

Life / Why foreigners in Poland do not respect Poland's culture and traditions? [68]

Few thoughts

- American opinions don't matter because most don't respect much of anything Non-American

- Poland doesn't have the rich or historical history as Western Europe. Few reasons for that. Firstly it was much easier to fend off outside attackers positioned in the West and Poland did not colonize or enslave. So today we aren't as respected or as wealthy but we aren't over run by 3rd World immigrants either.

Name me any nation and I'll provide you with the negative stereotype most Americans use to downplay their significance or success

Most Americans ignore the fact that the overwhelming portion of their success is based on foreign minds & backs. Instead they think if they were around throughout history they would have even more international influence than today. Truth is with all the resources, intelligent/drive/hard working immigrants, cheap labor AND two huge bodies of water protecting their butts.....American dominance lasted from 1950 to 2000. It's quite embarrassing to be honest.

History / Is Jozef Pilsudski the king of modern Poles? [138]

Couldn't we have joined forces with Hitler and then switched sides at the end (We wouldn't have lost though) like most of Europe did?

Haha what?

Natives as in those people still connected to Poland today and don't bad mouth the nation every chance they get on television, movies and literature. There is a distinct difference between natives and citizens. Citizens come and go, natives are forever tied to the nation. Are you trying to say Polish natives were worth the sacrifice of Israeli's? That's laughable

With Polands help, Hitler defeats and occupies Russia. If truly needed he could have persuaded Japan to help. At that point Central, Eastern and Southern Europe are transformed into the centrum of the World. Considering no one did come to the rescue of Russia or the Jews, I'm going to take a wild guess and assume no one still does.

There is no point to head farther West as Hitler's mission has been accomplished. By that time the new powerful region has atomic capabilities so USA loses all it's weight.

Germany, Japan, Russia: 3 of the 6 (5 if you take away defeated Russia) most effective fighters in the War + most of Europe (Who backed Hitler before jumping sides when defeat was apparent), some parts of Africa, Arab world & Asia and Russia's resources versus USA, England & France? Laughable. Do I really have to bring up Dunkirk?

Us Poles made the stupid decision and paid for it by 50 years of Soviet occupation. We should have joined Hitler, helped occupy the Soviets and laughed at UK/France's Phony promises. Instead today, Poles have to do lower paying jobs in England. What a stupid decision to fight Hitler.
