UK, Ireland / Is there actually anything cheaper in Poland than in UK? [51]

They are in the process of changing the laws in Poland re: traffic lights and pedestrian crossings.

they absolutely need to put a stop to the green phase for pedestrians colliding with cars that also have green
it works in places like sweden because drivers have respect
in poland no chance

Love / Polish Wedding...namely mine. What is the cost? [31]

You miserable sod. I hope you decline all invites to save them having to feed you.

i always give nice presents
last wedding i was at
i gave my friends some beautifully personalised things :)

Every one enjoyed it

most important thing of the lot
i think sometimes
the big lavish weddings are actually boring as hell
best one i was at was small
but absolutely great fun

Love / Polish Wedding...namely mine. What is the cost? [31]

the money issue i think
is why many people invite only family
because families feel obliged to dig deep as to not be shown up
whereas friends wont feel the same

Love / Polish Wedding...namely mine. What is the cost? [31]

im actually reminded of one story i was reading
the couple threw a massive bash
spent a fortune
and expected the guests to cover the costs

except they didnt and the bride went crazy

sorry darling
but just because you want a big fancy wedding doesnt mean your guests want to pay for it

Life / Why do people think that Poles are culturally isolated? [126]

for me Lithuania should still be part of the Commonwealth...

thats okay
it isnt and wont ever be again
remember
poland and lithuania were partners in the commonwealth
get that
partners

i do enjoy the rantings of people like you
who left poland as quickly as they could
and who wont return
yet you claim to be patriotic

Life / Why do people think that Poles are culturally isolated? [126]

i think its pretty obvious
that your patriotic rantings
are because of guilt

you left poland
abandoned her
left her to the wolves
yet you feel that you can dictate what is what
poland is not yours

better future

all about you isnt it
we all know that british education is inferior to polish education
british academic standards suck
ah well
at least us in poland will know who is educated and who isnt
enjoy cleaning toilets

News / American SM-3 ballistic missile site in Poland by 2018 [86]

The missiles protect northern Europe including Poland

legend doesnt want poland to be protected
he makes pro russia statements frequently
its pretty obvious that he would be against anything that protects poland

Don’t you think that those countries with one notable exception did it on their own and American presence there has nothing to do with the state of their economy.

hardly
west germany would never have worked without american oversight in the early days
and korea is well documented

Greece
Iceland
Spain
Kenya

iceland is doing just fine
spain is much better than it was 30 odd years ago

Yes you can, this myth is easily dismissed as a pure nonsense, figment of one’s imagination.

you would prefer poland to be russias vassal wouldnt you

News / American SM-3 ballistic missile site in Poland by 2018 [86]

I doubt that even if it wanted to purchase the system for it's own arsenal political pressure from Russia or maybe even some EU countries wouldn't let the transaction take place.

theres really no sense in buying her own
america will pay

We

another patriot that doesnt actually live in poland

People didn't think Russia would invade Georgia and it did, with Europe doing absolutely nothing. Shows how indecisive and weak NATO really is.

beating up tiny georgia is a whole different ballgame to taking on poland
the difference is that russia is surrounded in the west by nato
kaliningrad wouldnt last long against a polish lithuanian offensive

Maybe not today, but in the near future Russia could poise a very serious threat to Poland once again

unlikely
with nato being the way it is
a total block on russian exports would cripple russia overnight
they are just way too dependent on western markets to cope

imagine if the west stopped paying for gas?
even a week would paralyse russia

He also said how he doesn't understand how a liar like Komorowski has the backing of 69% of Polish society.

he should ask himself why hes the former deputy minister for defence while komorowski has the backing of 69% of society

about being part of Polish nobility, a man who accused the innocent Szeremietiew of corruption and pressed for his dismissal.

how did komorowski lie about his nobility? dont tell me you believe that rubbish about him being actually a russian

sorry
but i believe in real threats
not imagined ones

Real Estate / Astounded by the poor value of residential property here in Wroclaw [92]

In my experience here in Wroc, the rents almost always exclude the monthly service charge.

that is because many of the charges arent fixed

for instance
i pay around 220zl a month for heating
but because we administrate our own apartment complex
our complex is incredibly warm as a result of being built well with excellent insulation
as a consequence
i get most of that money back every year

Work / I'M SO SURPRISED BY THIS SALARY FOR IBM in WROCLAW 3000 ZL gross [135]

I don't teach English, and I do own property in Poland. I am currently in the process of renovating one house and also buying 17 ha of farmland. So what could I know...

that you seem to tell tall tales
for a start
you posted previously about teaching in universities
and driving an old car
now you suddenly have become a property baron

i. smell. nonsense.

you can be honest
we know that youre just another foreigner who hates the fact that he cant earn enough in poland
unlike the locals

i know many like you
all of them pretend to be much more than they are

tefl

To be totally honest though, I think 2000 net is hardly enough to survive for foreigner in Wroclaw. Possible, but very modest.

but if they were to do the normal thing
flatshare
etc
if they had experience and were genuinely good
they would get promoted easily

something tells me that theres something wrong with them if theyre applying for first level jobs

News / Czechs most liked by Poles! [35]

Jews (34 percent) and Palestinians (33 percent).

nice to see that poles are fed up of the middle east full stop
and puts a stop to the claim by some forum members
that poland is some sort of pro solidarity palestine country

The most controversial result is with the Americans with 43% of Poles liking them, with 21% declaring a disliking for them.

i am surprised its so high

Language / Poles - don't fall into the French/Spanish trap re pronunciation/accent! [81]

*Why would Polish people learn French 20 years + ago? You wer under an oppressiv Government that would not allow you out of the country and certainly not to travel to France, a Western country.

hardly
poland even during communism was very big on teaching languages
as for getting out of the country
many people did
the border was not as sealed as you might imagine
foreign currency transfers to poland did a lot to keep the country solvent
especially in the 80's

english was very commonly taught as a compulsory subject in university for instance

I'm not up to date with current curriculum but 20 years ago not all kids were taught English.

same today
schools in rural schools are still teaching russian first
due to excellent russian teachers
and poor english teachers
