A question for my fellow Varsovians...Which kebab do you prefer? I have discovered recently Amrit on Plac Wilsona...I find it quite good. Anyway much better than Kebab Rama here in Bielany.

The one at Dworzec Gdański's pretty good. The one with its own door to the right of the main entrance - not the one that just has a window in the booking hall.

The good one (i think one of the best)is in Nowy Świat St. but next to the alternative clubs (Kafe Fajka, Melanż, Klepsydra). It's not on the front of the street.

And Sahara kebab - now, it's in the center of the city.

No such thing as a "Good Kebab"

The meat is reheated again and again and again. The meat is reformed and heavily spiced making it impossible to determine what part(s) of the animal it came from. Kebab meat high levels of trans fat (hydrogenated plant fat that can contribute to coronary heart disease, obesity and diabetes). Tests revealed “a doner kebab was found to contain 5.8g of trans fat per portion compared to 0.87g in a Big Mac and fries”.

You can see the evidence of this fat yourself – such unhealthy fats will solidify and turn white when left too cool down. Next time you purchase a kebab take a sample of the meat and leave it in a cool place overnight. The more white globules you see clinging to the meat the next day the more unhealthy fats (trans fats and saturated fats) are on the meat. You will find that they vary from takeaway to takeaway but they will always be there.

Cheap unhealthy crap.

I know it is not exactly healthfood, but a good kebab can be tasty, if eaten with moderation :)

That one used to be great, but then the owner sold it to someone else, and it isn't as good, but OK to sit down in. The old owner has one in Sopot now, near the station. People recommend the place on Marszałkowska just north of the junction with Świętokrzyszka, opposite side to PKiN. There are two next to each other, one always with a queue.

No such thing as a "Good Kebab"

Especially in the UK where the meat usually comes ready formed from wholesalers - same in Poland nowadays. I'm just back from a month in Istanbul, where the kebabs are in a whole different league.

A good kebab in Warsaw

I am Turkish and in my opinion best Kebab(doner) in Warsaw is Efes (Aleja Niepodległości 80. near Raclawicka metro station ).

No such thing as a "Good Kebab"

It is unhealthy anyway but there are some very very very delicious Kebabs (not in Warsaw).

note to self: Never ask DarrenM about food (except as health nazi comic relief)

Anyway, I used to like a place on Jerozolimskie very close to nowy swiat but I haven't eaten there in about a year (I'm not in Warsaw so often).

I second that. Only kebab in Warsaw I found so far that actually resembles kebab.

Best kebab hands down is Efes. I've tried them all, kebabs like Sahara don't even compare. There's two in Warsaw, one in centrum and one in saska kepa. You will definitely enjoy it!

I ill agree with Efes, not a big kebab person- although Efes does turn out a nice and spicy bap.

There's a nice one on ul. Hoza, sort of opposite the night shops. Turkish owned and really very good. Very friendly and good food. The sad thing is that it's usually empty (but no queues) whereas the one nearby on Marszalkowska, by the Centrum Czeskie is undeservedly popular.

Avoid the one over the road next to the Vietnamese restaurant - very nasty indeed.

Hmm. Be careful of kebab shops in Poland who advertise lamb, but due to costs, sell a mix of lamb and beef, hoping nobody will notice.

the bones i the skin bread fat

Nothing wrong with that! What do you think sausages are made of?

0% lamb

This however is a problem. Better to go to the ones you can trust, like the one at Dworzec Gdański, or on ul. Hoźa.

No shortage of Poles working in kebab shops. But are you surprised that Turks are making Turkish food, Arabs are making Arab food, Indians are making Indian food etc? If I wanted pierogi, I would go to a Pole, if I want a kebab, I'll go to a Turk.

But there's nothing to stop Poles opening kebab shops - it's just that when they do, the food tends to be bland, greasy and generally awful.

My recent discovery was Kebab King - a network of kebab restaurants. Good prices and good quality. I also like Amrit.
