USA, Canada / American people attitude towards Poles in the USA [98]

well said.. there are plenty of people who would rather moan than get off their fat dupas and change their situation

I agree. They want the mountain brought to them!

Language / Pol/Eng Dictionary for Mobile Phones [15]

Where did you get this?

I was looking at them yesterday and a very basic one was £19.99 and only had about 5 languages on it and the one with more languages was £29.99.

Yes this could have a lot to do with it. Also the fact that we like to think we're multi-cultural in the UK but compared to the USA we aren't really. Such a big influx of people from one nation has seemingly caused a lot of negative feeling - or that is the impression given anyway, particularly on here.

I've said this before somewhere on PF. The Polish have always been prominent in UK society.

A word seeking world domination?

Quite possibly.

My favourite rude polish word

I blush at the very thought of them :)

Language / Polish Swear Words [1242]

why? it makes you uncomfortable?

Not really. I was jesting. But a Polish male friend has taught me 3 sentences recently and then I discovered all 3 were rude. He's a really good teacher though so I picked them up quickly. I'm pretty wary when he teaches me anything now...even though he insists that was just a joke...some joke :)

UK, Ireland / Polish Festivals/Exhibitions/Events in UK [91]

Not really a festival,

It's more of an exhibition...but ought to be good.

Just checked the Positively Poland event ..... it should have been at Earl Court 16-18th November 2007, but has been re-scheduled for Spring 2008 !

And they're a bit vague on the new date.

But if they set a date I can manage I'll probably take the trip :)

the Positively Poland event

Has been rescheduled 16-18th May this year. Positively Poland. Anyone thinking of going?

UK, Ireland / What do you hate about England and English people? [142]

but i found this amusing...

These are amusing and there are loads more. If you have time you should pick a particular city and look into the "by-laws" there are some funny ones there too. :)

oh shush i just found that on yahoo so i thought id share it on here.

Therefore - people will reply!

topless clerks in tropical fish stores... now thats an intersting one, and unlike the other ones it doesnt sound so out dated

but there would be some ridiculous reason why they should be topless - nothing interesting. BTW - the clerks were maybe male ;)

maybe when theyre topless theyre more prepared to rescue a client whos fallen in a fish tank and is drowning, without getting their t-shirt wet. hows that? ;)

It could be that - or some other oddball reason :)

if they were male, and clerks in a tropical fish store AND had to be topless, there should be a law for them to be buff, too.

Hmm, you could have a point ;)

UK, Ireland / How many of your co-workers in the UK are Polish? [30]

If you ignore the senior management and directors (easy done) of the place I work then at least 25% of the workforce is Polish, in varying job roles. And it works just fine :)

Life / Superstitions in Poland [60]

always salute a magpie

Not only a Polish superstition. I have friends who say "Hello Mr Magpie" to a single magpie. A pair is considered OK.

News / Poland - Third World Country?? [300]

At a guess I would say that people who refer to Poland as a "third world country" have no knowledge of Poland (or wish to), probably don't really like Poland or Polish people and if they have been there, most likely had a bad experience due to the examples I've already written.

They also probably have no knowledge of what a third world country actually is...

News / Poland - Third World Country?? [300]

they should have seen yesterday's CNN program about corruption in Africa and their difficult living conditions.

I didn't see it but I know what you mean. Anyone saying Poland is a third world country (particularly here) is only saying it to cause trouble...maybe they should type "third world country" into a search engine and improve their general knowledge a little bit more.
