Life / Do Polish people have a good ear for music? [91]

In your question.

I think you'll find that my question was asking YOU what YOU thought and not that I assumed something

(Hi I was just wondering whether or not you think Polish people have a good ear for music?)

Are you claiming they should be washed or dry cleaned or something

Funny. No, I'm claiming that something that should normally be kept in a fridge not be sitting under a hot lamp for hours................Jeez I thought this was a no brainer????

Food / Food hygiene in Poland [60]

This is EU food hygene standards, didn't you know???

I highly doubt that. as johnny said

The worst think is putting uncovered food on or next to the counter in shops, just at the right height for bronchial old people to cough over.

I've never seen this in UK. Just sitting there in front of people coughing/sneezing on the food.

Life / Do Polish people have a good ear for music? [91]

Lets face it, the ear bleeding arse we have to listen to in the UK on "Pop" radio (god im getting old) is hardly the best of British is it?

You're totally right, but we have so many other stations playing great music, and stations dedicated to different genres. I'm afraid this is going to start in to a comparison between UK and Poland which is not what I'm trying to do. I know about the UK, I'm trying to find out about Poland and Polish music :)

a.k.

You listen to wrong radiostations obviously.

There is possibly one or two MAX that are decent. Trojka ( I think that's it ) and sometimes Eska Rock. Not a lot of choice now is it? Could you give me a few worth listening to?

Nobody's asking YOU to do anything. I was asking the question on food hygiene standards in Poland not whether you would write a letter of complaint for me. Thought that was quite clear, maybe not......

Life / Do Polish people have a good ear for music? [91]

I ask because I really don't like what I'm hearing on radio and TV here. I don't get it. I have watched many unsigned bands/singers here in trojmiasto who blew me away but it seems that they are never given the chance on a bigger stage. Seems that only mainstream is accepted on radio/TV? A lot of people will come back at me and name a lot of old school Polish bands/singers but that's been done, give me something new. Are there any new, young bands FAMOUS in Poland? It happens all the time in UK and US, there are BANDS everywhere.

WE WAN'T NEW POLISH BANDS ON POLISH RADIO AND TV . THERE'S ONLY SO MUCH DODA/EDYTA GORNIAK/FEEL ONE CAN TAKE.

I do love a great pop record but come on...............

A great band from Gdansk called Trup Trupa SHOULD be on their way to the top but I'm afraid that as it's Poland it won't happen.

I'm not having a go, just asking for your thoughts, for and against :)

Food / Food hygiene in Poland [60]

Don't get me wrong I love my new home here in Poland but I feel that in some places food hygiene could be a bit/lot better. I'm not talking about restaurants, but in some shops/cake shops. I could give many examples but I'll only give a couple. There is cake/meat shop in Galeria Baltycka in Gdansk which sells really good sandwiches with great fillings, only problem is you have to be lucky to not be given the ones which sit right under the hot lamp making the cheese and ham sweat/change colour. Probably just being a bit picky on this one, in smaller corner shop types, dried out meats in the fridge and dairy cakes left out of fridge all day. Maybe this doesn't bother people and maybe it's because I'm fussy but just wanted to ask the question.

P.S I'm not having a go, I love the cakes here especially from Sowa (They are refrigerated mind) and cold meats in Poland are second to none.

Dzięks

Life / Do Polish people have a good ear for music? [91]

Hi I was just wondering whether or not you think Polish people have a good ear for music? I'm not talking about music school kids who are "trained" but more like the average Joe who just picks up a guitar/any other instrument and teaches him/herself to play/sing etc..........

Life / Cellphone plan with Data, with contract in Poland [16]

I've come on here to actually give you a reply to your question, which is quite rare on this forum...............
I have an orange pay and go sim with the option called "internet free". You can get just over 1gig of internet when you top up 25zl (more if you top up more less if less etc) This should be more than enough unless you plan on downloading stuff, but just for searching the net, emails, skype, facebook etc it will be fine and of course you'll have the 25zl for calls or texts.

Hope this helped

Food / British food products in Poland? [334]

Just made a lovely Sunday roast with homemade Yorkshire puds, rosemary, thyme and garlic roast potatoes and a big jug of onion gravy! Choice of meat? Roast chicken with garlic and herb butter rubbed under the skin, it came out golden :p For dessert I bought something similar to custard from Ikea called vanilla sauce and a home made shortcrust pastry apple pie. I could have had bigos but ...................................................................... ..........................................

Work / Teaching English in Krakow for graduates? [7]

You must spend an awful lot of time running around town teaching

Not as much as you'd think mate. I divide my time between them all, so on certain days in one place and on other days in others etc........

Saying that though, I have been here for 5 years and it was quite different at the beginning, even travelling outside the city for work. I guess it's easier as time goes by as you have more of a luxury of picking and choosing what you want to do and where you want to travel.........

I wonder how it is in Krakow? It's a bigger city than Gdansk so more travelling...............

You can get cheddar cheese here.

Is that the cathedral city one? I like it a lot, I've tried the Irish one they have but I've got to say I didn't like it very much, had a strange smell and was a little wet to the touch......

Biedronka had "seriously strong/mild " cheddar for a while but they seem to have stopped selling it. A bit too salty for me that one. I LOVED THE LIDL ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!! so good I was eating it like chocolate. Yeah I saw Tescos own cheddar but wasn't sure whether to chance it or not. How was the taste? How mature ?

Work / Teaching English in Krakow for graduates? [7]

Hi Buddy, I'm from Liverpool working in Gdansk and I've got to say it feels like quite the opposite up here, I mean, I'm currently working for 5 schools and I'm still turning down a lot of work............... If you play an instrument you can find work in nursery's too. I've got quite a few hours playing children's songs to the kids ( writing quite a few originals too,, )... You can get around 100 zl p/h for something like that as there are very few people doing it, especially natives and especially natives from Beatle pool lol, and if you've got a Beatle do like me haha.

Food / Polish bacon doesn't fry up? [70]

thanks :)

Merged: I found back bacon in Poland!

For anyone who's interested, you can buy back bacon (British/Canadian/Danish style bacon) in Tesco. I found it in the Tesco in Chełm, Gdańsk and it's called "Boczek Klasyczny".

There is one problem though, it's paper thin! But has decent flavour to it. Just made myself a Bacon and cheddar cheese french bread baguette...............Drooooool.

Peace out

Food / British food products in Poland? [334]

Hi I'm living in the Trojmiasto area and was just wondering if anybody knew of any decent place to get British products ?

I know Marks and Spencer has quite a decent range of things at quite good prices, and I know about the WAY OVER-PRICED shop in Galeria Baltycka in Gdansk.

It's not somwthing I'm craving but you know, it's always nice to know :)
