History / Why do Polish people hate to be called Eastern European? [121]

The mainstream media: news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7574061.stm (BBC)

refer to you as Eastern Europeans.

How about the UN's official designation of Poland?

unstats.un.org/unsd/methods/m49/m49regin.htm#europe

I spoke to my Polish cleaner lady last week and asked her if she minded being called Eastern EUropean?

She replied: 'No, I am from Eastern Europe'

History / Are Poles grateful to the Russians for winning the war? [120]

Of course Poles would rather not be dead, but having their freedom taken away again afterwards is barely a substitute.

I would rather live in a communist country than under Nazi occupation. Not ideal but it's like getting a really nasty painful slap and have someone prod you with a stick (Russia) or being shot in both legs and being dunked in Ice cold water and be urinated on,shat on, spat on and have the ends of your fingers burned off with a hot poker (Nazi Germany)

what would you prefer? I think I ill take the slap and a little prod with a stick and keep my legs.

btw, 'uncle' did NOT win the war alone. there were 4 allies who did that.

I'm not sure Uncle Sam would have won the war either( Britain would defiantly not have won alone.), had Hitler not invaded Russia, than a stalemate would have ensued, Rommel may well have won in the desert if he had all the Eastern Front troops at his disposal.

Stalingrad is what broke them so yes I am grateful to the Russian war contribution. They could just have easily signed a truce with the Germans like Lenin did with the Treaty of Brest-Litvorsk in 1917 and given away a chunk of their territory

UK, Ireland / Polish immigration in UK [491]

Johnny, from having spoken to Poles here in the UK, the vast majority said they saw no need to get a British passport.

The War Poles like the guy in the great escape played by charles bronson have every right to a British Passport and are completely integrated into British society. I was taking about the post 2004 polskis. Out of curiosity how did you leave communist Poland in 67?

so you would rather your people and culture and the very concept of a polish nation become slowly erased and been nothing more than slaves to the Volkduetch.

I am grateful to uncle Joe for winning the War, Britain would not have won alone.

UK, Ireland / Why do so many Polish guys in the UK have a crew cut or buzz cut? [106]

his doesn't mean an all over number 1 or 2 does it? (I assume that's what we're talking about with the Polish hair)

yes I was going more along the line of a number 2 or buzz cut, I didn't actually mean crew cut, that was my mistake.

you rarely see a Polish Mohawk, long haired guys, hoxton fin, dreads, floppy hair, etc or alternative styles you find in Camden or Brighton, you just see the standard Eastern European number 2 slightly longer than a buzz cut.

News / Has there been an influx of Polish people into Germany? [21]

surely in western Poland you have more in common with them than yo do with us culturally?

I have no great affinity with the Germans, but I do with the Irish, Scandinavians, Dutch, Aussies and kiwis who I find to be culturally closest to Britain.

It's not just the hair, but generally you don't see many Polish goths, Hippies, New age type people, screamos, Townies, gay men with purple hair or generally alternative styles. They seem to where sports wear or slightly outdated middle of the road cloths from the early 2000s late 90s. Culturally many Poles seem to be 30 years back in their attitude to homosexuality, hippies, Vegans, and so on.

the partizan's were not Nationalists they were Yugoslav Communists, Serbian nationalists beards and long hair harks back to the Medieval kings of Serbia.

it is not uncommon for Serbian nationalists to have a full beard.

you said:

Trust me you will not see radical right members with beards, moustaches and long hair.

Life / Can any young Poles can still speak Russian [25]

I'm aware that all Poles over the age of 40 can speak Russian, but I was curious to know how common it is for younger Poles (under 30) to speak Russian?

News / Has there been an influx of Polish people into Germany? [21]

Not putting immigration quotas for Eastern Europe was one of the biggest mistakes any pot war British Government ha made. it has really f*cked over the British working classes. Working class Brits can not compete with a Pole who will do a job for half the price. they have stopped wages from rising as much as they would have over the last 7 years. It ha put an immense financial strain on working class Brits involved in manual labour industries such plumbing, bar work, mechanics, brick layers who roofers, allot of new jobs are taken by people registered are reserved for employment agencies based in Eastern Europe. The Poles now here do not integrate with wider British society, there are Police sign in Reading saying ' Please do not Drink' in Polish.

How would you feel if there was an influx of nearly 1 million low payed working class Brits to Poland within a space of 2 years?

this has nothing to do with your opening post. keep the thread on topic. otherwise i'll bin it. thank you.
