News / Damien Perquis Football player granted Polish citizenship insulted by the PIS ? [30]

are you allowed to take part in the parliamentary election if you are not holdin Polish citizenship - I ask out of curiousity not out of spite

No he cannot, immigrants fortunately aren't allowed to vote in the parliamentary elections. But it's good to know who he would vote for if he could - this way I know exactly which party I should not vote for.

History / Do any Poles miss the Communist era? [35]

Gov't officials and other upper management positions.

I'm afraid they did very well under new system.

Plenty of people miss communism and they don't even know about it - they expect to be given lifetime employment at some factory like it were their birthright and they will go on the streets protesting when their "zakład" goes bankrupt.

News / Polish national lotto lottery (today 20 000 000 PLN to win) [16]

Isn't that a matter of public knowledge?

It is quite vague (sport and culture).
Anyway, we have huge jackpot - 50 000 000. Almost 21 000 000 coupons were purchased. I expect the lottery to be one the leading topics of conversations until Wednesday.

History / Why do Polish people hate to be called Eastern European? [121]

Poland is center of the main land (geograhpically) and is an Eastern European country.

Geographically, Poland, together with Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Austria, is Central European country.

History / Why do Polish people hate to be called Eastern European? [121]

only in eyes of people who believe in all this Soviet-Polish friendship bullshit. Half of my relatives was erased by the Soviets and you're trying to tell me how I'm supposed to feel about "your friends"?

What is stupid is who are you blaming for Soviet occupation. Armia Ludowa influence on Poland was negligible. The fate of Poland was sealed at Yalta.

History / Why do Polish people hate to be called Eastern European? [121]

So are you saying that Soviets didn't occupy Poland and regular Soviet NKWD units didn't have regular battles with Polish democratic partisants? The handful of Polish communists and traitors wouldn't stand a chance without Soviet military support.

"massive protest in the west" - good joke :D
They knew exactly what was happening in Poland. They agreed to it, in Yalta.
If Katyn didn't convince Britain and USA to protect Poland from Soviets, then what would?

News / 300 art treasures found in Polish garden shed! [11]

They call the guy thief because he is a bricklayer and doesn't belong to the establishment. They didn't write that his daughter went to the police to report that someone was stealing from that collection while her father was unable to move.

History / Did British public protest against the sell out of Poland to the Soviets? [286]

Britain was a democratic state, before, during and after the war, wasn't it? British people surely could express their views on political matters in public? In fact, that's what they did in 1920 - when British workers threatened a general strike to ensure that no help would be send to Poland, which was fighting the Red Army.

So I was wondering if there were any manifestations of protest against handing of Poland to Stalin (in which process British government took active part)? After all, Poland was Britain's faithful ally and British public surely would feel bad about such outcome of events? Brits must have been pissed off at their own government in 1939 already, when it manouvered Poland into war with Germany, while failing to provide any promised aid. It must have made them look untrustworthy.

Maybe at least someone can point me to some articles in British democratic press from years 1945-1946, which focus on the fate of Poland and the role British government played in it?

News / 300 art treasures found in Polish garden shed! [11]

They call the guy a thief because he had a garden shed full of art treasures that didn't belong to him

How did they not belong to him? The police took the collection from him because "it seems very valuable", not because they have any evidence he stole anything.

Perhaps because they were missing from galleries and private collections...

Which items from those 300 were missing and from which galleries and private collections?
Maybe I can send police to your house so that they can take away your belongings to investigate whether they are not stolen or not? In the meantime we could call you thief in the press.

News / SPECIAL REPORT: The Brits who left the UK for a life in Poland [28]

Most of the people the 'journalist' spoke to have a vested interest in more Brits coming to Poland.

You on the other hand obviously have no interest in other Brits coming to Poland because every one of them is a competition for you. The times when one could earn a lot with just English language knowledge are gone, there are many guys like you in Poland now, so here you are, bitter as hell, trying to discourage anyone from coming here in order to salvage whatever is left from your business.

History / Did British public protest against the sell out of Poland to the Soviets? [286]

The British public were not happy with the treatment of Poland. Indeed some twenty odd MP's resigned over the issue, I've not heard of such mass resignations since.

If that's true, I'd like to know the names of those men. They should be remembered here in Poland.
Instead all Poles hear about is scumbags like PWEI, who don't hesitate disgracing the memory of murdered, tortured and persecuted Polish patriots.

Or perhaps you can do what all the other posters have failed to do and detail the supposed 'sell out' which saw Britain secure the promise of democratic elections which Poles never bothered to exercise and the promise of free accommodation which some Poles still exercise?

Why is it that 99,9% of Brits with any interest in WWII history understand and are ashamed of what British and USA governments did to Poland at Teheran, Yalta and Potsdam, but you alone act like a mixture of an idiot and anti-polish scumbag? When you have posted your rubbish for the 100th time, did it ever occur to you from the reaction you get every time, that maybe in fact nobody is buying your lies and repeating it clearly has no point? Or maybe your point is to make Poles hate Brits?

History / Do you regard the Polish Communist Partizans as heroes? [36]

Obviously post communist Poland's historiography would be very different than during the cold war, but I'm interesting in knowing specifically how the Polish Partizans, not the Red Army or NKVD are viewed.

Soviet partisans in Poland are not synonymous with Polish communists partisans.
Soviet partisans in Poland (former Soviet occupied Poland) after Katyn discovery were to Polish partisans an enemy just like Germans only more trecherous. That's the image people get nowadays from interviews with members of Home Army. Soviet partisans accepted and executed orders from Stalin so what would you expect. It really looks like in some areas they were more busy fighting Polish democratic partisans than fighting the Germans.

History / Did British public protest against the sell out of Poland to the Soviets? [286]

I can hardly blame him - it was better for America to divide the world into 2 and not have to deal with all these stupid little conflicts. And to be fair, it worked - America pushed France and Germany into the ECSC, and the rest is history.

Americans can always say that they did not have an alliance agreement with Poland and did not have regular Polish units under their command. Unfortunately the same cannot be said about Britain.

History / Did British public protest against the sell out of Poland to the Soviets? [286]

It's much easier than admitting that Poles (and nominally Catholic ones, at that) were the ones who kept Poland in captivity.

Communism would never have worked in Poland if it wasn't for the masses of ordinary collaborating Poles.

Your are the kind who would claim that Poles murdered themselves at Katyn, if it weren't for the movie.
No chance in hell any communists would rule in Poland if it weren't for the regular Red Army units and NKVD forces. It is true though that the enslavement of Poland took part in phases. After all the bloodsheds from 1939 onwards, there was simply not enough opposition left so that the Polish stalinists could pretty much rule without Russians in the later years of stalinism.

History / Did British public protest against the sell out of Poland to the Soviets? [286]

Of course not, but would they have managed to rule if Poles simply refused to work with the Communists?

Yes. You are very naive, or simply antipolish, when you underestimate Stalin like that. Just look at who "Polish officers" in Ludowe Wojsko Polskie were - initially 67% of them were Russians and Jews. How many of those remaining Polish officers were there simply because they got an offer they couldn't refuse?

Would it make you happy if the number of Polish victims of Soviet occupation was even higher?

History / Did British public protest against the sell out of Poland to the Soviets? [286]

Don't forget, Poles killed Poles in most cases - not Russians or (gasp) Jews.

Do you have any proof of that statement or is it yet another of your polonophobic BS, Michael? Although I like how you just confirmed what I suggested about you a post before.

The fact remains that there were plenty of Poles who were perfectly happy to work with Stalin in the post WW2 era. I don't think it's any surprise that much of the Communist elite came from poor peasant backgrounds - people who saw their chance and seized it with both hands. They were Polish, nonetheless.

How many? Care to prove your statement or yet another lie?

So 33% of them were Polish of presumably Catholic background. As I said - plenty of Poles were happy to go along with it.

So are you saying that plenty of Polish officers were happy to work for Stalin? Do you mind if I quote that statement of yours with your full name under it?

What has that got to do with anything?

That you would gladly accuse Poles of anything just because a majority of them survived both occupations. Well, even if all Poles were dead, you would still come up with some accusation, simply because the dead cannot defend themselves and thus are an easy target for a guy like you.

News / British man prosecuted for raping teenage girls in Kraków [47]

Kraków district attorney prepared a case against a 47-year old British citizen. He is being accused of sexual assault on three teenage girls, one of them is under 15.

The man took advantege of his position since he is a horse riding instructor and a president of a club near Kraków. Those three girls were his pupils.

For those girls horse riding was a passion and the man could decide about their training, or participation in sport events. - says prosecutor's office.

P.S. This "expat" is still "contributor" according to the other thread.

News / British man prosecuted for raping teenage girls in Kraków [47]

However, make your mind up - did he assault them, or did he rape them?

Well, the title of the article mentions rapes but "doprowadzenie przemocą do obcowania płciowego lub innych czynności seksualnych" from the body of the article I translated as "sexual assault" - to be honest I have no idea how to translate this.
