News / Are there interests that Poland share with Russia? [50]

1. Poland is the largest beneficiary of EU funds.
2. 95% of Poles hate Putin (catholic and non catholic, it does not matter)
3. 80% of Ukrainians (orthodox?) hate Putin
4. After visiting Moscow, a year ago I went to Russian province, Putin's real Russia is a ********, third world at the best.
5. The rest of your speech is bubble.

News / Poland Unemployment: Nobody protests, because people are leaving [30]

The unemployment rate for young educated Polish people will hit 30% this year.

In Poland higher education is for free, therefore it has become in many cases a low-profile commodity. For an employer very often it does not matter if you have universidy graduation or not. Therefore, this 30% ratio does no mean anything.

Travel / Can I visit Belarus in the rental car from Poland ? [17]

I did this paper work once with my private car when I was crossing the border a year ago.

Despite of I speak some Russian, it would have been hopeless without help of my girlfriend who is native Belarussian. All instructions how to fill forms are in Russian written in typical legal language. People on the frontier are not helpful at all. I cannot imagine they speak English. Filling all forms (you have to fill it in Russian, no English forms available) takes about one hour.

And this was my private car.

If car is rented, I guess they would want from you Russian translation of the rental agreement (by sworn translator of course, closest place - Białystok).

There are two options for you if you are ready with your translated papers:

1. Learn Russian, then try to cross the border after filling all forms properly.

2. Take on board a Belorussian smuggler, who will make all paperwork for you. However, since they usually do not speak English, go to option number one.

News / Are Poles good enough for USA (to go there without a visa)? [288]

I have found something like this on the web. It shows US B-visas refusal rates by nationality.

travel.state.gov/pdf/FY11.pdf

The data is from 2011, so pretty fresh. It looks like Poland does not stand out significaantly among other EU countries. What's more interesting, refusal rate for Poland in 2011 (10,2%) was lower compared to Slovakia (16,6%), Slovenia (14,4%), Lithuamnia, Latvia, Estonia, Hungary (31,1%), those CEE countries that do not have to have visas to US. Moreover, rate for Poland was lower than that for Germany (18,6%), Finland (19,4%) or Belgium (13,7%) or France (23,9%) and Italy.

Or maybe I misunderstand something from that table.

History / Warsaw Rising 1944 - National Disaster or Triumph of Spirit ? [395]

Destruction of a city needs time.

If Warsaw Uprising had not broken out, we may assume that Warsaw would NOT have been that drastically destroyed, and lots of civilians would have been spared. Warsaw was systematically ruined during the uprising (for 2 months) and just after it (October-December, 3 months). In total 5 months.

The speed of Soviet offensive that started in January was so high (at least 5:1 advantage in any kind of weapons, soldiers) that the Germans would not have had a chance to destroy the city to that extent.

The Germans fiercely defended only their pre-war cities (Konigsberg, Breslau, Berlin).

Law / Online brokerage firm for Buying and selling stock on WSE? [6]

There are tens of online brokers. I use BZ WBK. Standard commisison for private clients in Poland is 38 pips and PLN12 per future.

After year-end brokers send you a PIT with the amount of 19% capital gain tax. If I was not a Polish resident I would not pay that. Polish tax office has no means to execute that tax from foreign individuals.

News / Tusk drops Chinese COVEC building the A2 motorway in Poland [83]

The Chinese have built so far 10% of the highway so they got 10% (130m out of 1.3bn contract) of the deal. The amount what they paid to subcontractors is their problem - it only shows they underpriced the deal while bidding.

If the deal is broken they will have to pay ZL750m fine to Poland. Idiots.
