USA, Canada / Polish-American criminals [70]

Polish-Americans are quick to claim when someone successful is "one of theirs" despite being only half Polish-American

You and your limey PFers are also quick to point out that these successful individuals are only 1/2 Polish-Americans. Where are you guys in this thread???

I thought so...

News / Polish hero pilot lands 767 without wheels. (Warsaw) [191]

(but was it a Polish Captain/First Officer?)

No, It was Johny English...

I'm afraid he was Polish-American. He forgot to drop the landing gears because he was too busy talking to his "busia" on the radio. LOL!!

It's amazing that the LOT pilot was able to keep the plane straight. In contrast, watch this video.

youtube.com/watch?v=zA5FMFVbVZ0

i wonder if anyone on the LOT flight filmed the landing from inside the plane.....

History / Do polish people know that some of them fought a war against the United States? [60]

Hmmm i wonder if those Poles could be considered Polish-Americans?? I also wonder if these poles took their "busias" to mexico too....

I guess i will have to wait for delphi to come back.

*waits patiently*

We were only ever visiting.

The brits visited many parts of the globe. Pity they had to murder, exploit, and terrorize so many innocent people during their "visitations."

Life / Flea markets in Wrocław [14]

You;re right, I didn't read OPs post in its entirety. He sounds like a hoarder of junk so my suggestion is not very helpful.

Law / I am starting a new business life in Poland (coming from Sydney) [84]

A family of 4 requires 10,000 PLN per month to live without school fees, car/mortgage and private health care.

Most Poles live off much less than 10k PLN - try 3.5-4k for a couple who both have poorly paid jobs. It ain't pretty but that's the reality.

If you live on the outskirts of Warsaw and your kids are at university then I would expect 3 or 4 cars in the family.

A lot of the people that live on the outskirts of Wawa are financially well off, so yes i would agree with you here about having 3-4 cars in the family.

Utter and complete nonsense. Ever heard of public transport?

He's a british Pan, he doesn't ride public transit.

Work / Chemistry degree - what are my chances of finding work in Poland? [29]

degree in chemistry

In my opinion, you should pursue a career in this field in the UK (or some other western country). Teaching english is a nice option but you'll be better off working in your field of study. A career in science is much more lucrative/stable than ESL work in a foreign land. Sometimes when you leave your area of expertise for too long, you may not be able to get back into it. Think about your long term future, not just the next 12 months.

Unless of course you are looking to get out of that line of work or just want a break (and can take a break) from chemistry then disregard the above:)

cheers!

Your posts are full of mistakes

Oh shutup you grammar nazi, this is an internet forum not a job interview.

Life / Poles - the Nation of Liars? [478]

Everyone lies. I bet Poles lie to you more because they know they can.

I'm not sure if lying is unique to Poles.

Great post.

USA, Canada / Polish-American Musicians [45]

No. He's American.

Sounds like you've never been to the US/Canada. When someone says they are ___ (insert ethnic group), it doesn't mean they are ____. It simply means that they are making reference to their ancestry. It is VERY common. Tons of yanks and canucks of scottish heritage, for instance, walk around in kilts on scottish festivals/holidays, even though they are 3rd, 4th, 5th gen yanks/. edit

can we stop this continual argument of what is and what is not a pol/am. thank you.

Let us talk about what we want, relax and go grab a coffee. The brits on this forum are unable to grasp this simple concept so it needs to be addressed often.

Polonia / How would an American Pole be treated while studying in Germany? [25]

Not in the case of engineering. Polish Universities are not accredited period.

Another thing to note is that german universities are better known around the world than their polish counterparts. People in general know more about germany than poland and so its safe to assume that some employers may prefer to hire a german educated applicant instead of a polish one. Not saying that this happens 100% of the time, but i've seen it happen.

Some people on this forum, like delphiandomine (a brit who has a dead end job teaching english in Poland), are really grumpy and have a lot of anger built up inside. Delphiandomine actually hates Americans and Americans of Polish descent which is why he was so harsh towards you, so please just put him on your ignore list.

Language / 24 hour time telling in Poland vs. other countries [29]

or hasn`t used the British Rail before, he/she might have a problem with deciphering the correct time if it is written 17.00 or 18.00 ?

It's very possible. It's guaranteed to cause problems if that american happens to be from an inner city.

History / What proportion of the Polish population collaborated with the Nazis? [125]

Had ALL of Europe acted as did Bulgaria, Denmark or Sweden, the history of the Shoah would have been written quite differently, I can assure you-:)

Sure. And had jews (example: chaim rumkowski) not collaborated with the germans or fought along side the germans (example: werner goldberg - nazi poster boy), the history of the shoah would have been written quite differently, i can assure you-:)

USA, Canada / I now have a USA and Polish passport - How to behave at the border? [18]

No problem OP. I've done the same as you (Polish/Canadian passports). It is illegal for Poles to identify themselves to Polish officials using foreign documents, but the authorities turn a blind eye to this law.

If you stay in poland for longer than 3 months you will have to show both passports at the border in order to leave Poland. You might also get hassled for having 2 different spellings of your name. If you have a document that shows your official name change, bring it with you it might help.
