Life / Polish authors, books & literature. [95]

But be prepared for some "culture shock" and a (stylized?) peasant dialect from NE Poland.

What "culture shock"? Do you believe some rural folks in other countries, e.g. Britain or America, don't behave as "shockingly" as the farmers in "Konopielka"?

Any recommendation from modern Polish literature ?

I would strongly recommend Edward Redlinski (b. 1940) - perhaps the most prominent living Polish novelist. But as far as I know, he hasn't been translated into English. I'd recommend his "Awans" (the original version, not the rewritten one), "Konopielka", "Szczuropolacy" (about Polish immigrants in New York), brilliant reportages, e.g. "Ja w nerwowej sprawie".

Another good more recent Polish novelist (and poet) is Edward Stachura ("Cala jakrawosc", "Siekierezada" - novels, brilliant short stories, "Wszystko jest poezja" - essays). He is, or rather was (d. 1979), a hippie-mystic type.

Another distinguished Polish novelist, short story writer and poet is Jaroslaw Iwaszkiewicz (1894-1980). A few very good movies are based on his prose - Kawalerowicz's "Mother Joanna of the Angels", Wajda's "The Birch Wood" and "The Maids of Wilko".

On the other hand I am more interested in literature perspective (not the best sellers or pieces which are popular for short term and does not have any artistic value).

Then I would recommend the aforementioned writers, and a few others (mostly poets - are you interested in Polish poetry as well?). They are great artists and their works are timeless. Of course, today there some in Poland who, having gotten delusional about the (would be) united Europe without nations, and about globalism, would babble that these writers aren't good, etc. nonsense.

What criteria would you use to determine who is the best writer or novelist? There are a few great Polish novelists - Henryk Sienkiewicz, Boleslaw Prus, Stefan Zeromski (especially his "Popioly" - "The Ashes"), Wladyslaw Stanislaw Reymont (especially his "Chlopi" - "The Farmers"), Maria Dabrowska.... Polish was also Count Jan Potocki who wrote in French the adventure and horror novel known in English as "The Manuscript Found in Saragossa" (there is a very good film based on it, directed by Wojciech Has).

By the way, Sienkiewicz seems to have had a considerable influence on American literature (e.g. Faulkner) and also film - a fact which seems to be ignored and concealed by today American literature and movie "experts". Sienkiewicz's writing style seems to have influenced also Joseph Conrad.

News / Donald Tusk's Government of Poland Continues to Oppress Poles [161]

The Poznan-based British psychopathic Polonophobe, dupadomine, is still scribbling here, spreading his hate-propaganda against the Poles? Shouldn't such scum be kicked out from Poland, the same way they are kicking out us from Britain, having vilified us in the media? Such scum should never be allowed to feel comfy in Poland. Now even top British politicians - Cameron and Miliband - seem to participate in the daily mail-style hate propaganda against the Poles, using us for their own sinister political ends. First the British exploited the Poles beyond measure, and now are trying to talk into everyone, including themselves, that it is us, Poles, who have ripped off the British. Hehe, and just recently the Polish premier Tusk has thanked Cameron for letting the Poles work in Britain. One more piece of evidence for Tusk and his motley's separateness from the real situation and concerns of the Polish people.

I've been reading the posts in this thread and taken aback (a rare occurence with me) by the monstuous lies and hate-filled Polonophobic language of the psychopath calling himself dupadomine, or whatever. What a compulsive liar and slanderer, holly shoot! Take for example his hint that commie Poland was subsidized by Soviet Russia. Hehehehe! And such a Polonophobic crap is allowed to live and puke out his hate in Poland, in the beautiful city of Poznan?

UK, Ireland / Polish and Irish people are related? [137]

Interestingly, if you look at the

The hyperactive, hate-spewing, Polonophobic troll going ape again?

What valuable can YOU say about good Europeans, such as Poles and Irish, stupid alien?

... How's the swine-worship going?

The Polish also over-identified with the church, due to Godless communism.

Very true remarks - great remarks, milky. I would add that Irish nationalism closely resembles our Polish one in that it has the deep-rooted notion of victimhood, some very tender spots connected with historical memory. And we are both very tough peoples - peoples one can kill but never defeat.

Love / Polish women are the most beautiful in the world! [1718]

Hehe, in spite of any sour grapes creeps trying to disparage Polish women the latter remain securely among the most beautiful women of the world. I am Polish, but I spent more than half of my life abroad, mostly travelling the world over. And today any time I return to Poland, the beauty of Polish women simply strikes me. I don't have this sensation anywhere else except Japan, where, to my liking, women are breathtakingly gorgeous. This perception of mine has nothing to do with nationalism, etc.

Po polsku / Nasza Bufetowa wymiata ! [16]

Ciesze sie

--- Nie obawiasz sie, ze ta uciecha moze zamienic sie w smutek?

bo to Kaczynski and Co symbolizuje wszystko, czego w Polsce nie cierpie

Genealogy / Jewish Roots of Poland [638]

Poland was anti-semitic and nationalist

--- This might be hard for you to prove, but it seems to be easy to prove that you are a hyperactive, self-complacent and psychopathic Polonophobe. Why on earth a type like you sticks around in Poland? It is because such a type considers the Poles weak and gutless and this gives him "courage" to insult and slander them with impunity, right?

Hehe, how about your own Jewish "nationalism" or rather Jewish chauvinism? It appears evident in many of your posts.

A general observation, not addressed to dupadomine only: the title of this thread, "Jewish roots of Poland", is misleading, in that it seems to suggest that the historical base of Poland is Jewish. In reality, the base is not Jewish, but, obviously, Polish. Besides, Polish history seems to show that some ethnic groups other than Jews, such as Germans and Armenians, have played greater, and more positive role, in Poland's history than the Jews.

Genealogy / Polish looks? [1410]

Yoy, you're a pretty young lady. What a lovely smile!

Not bad. Yes, somehow you have something eastern European, but definitely Celtic.

An expert on racial features? Can you determine from a pic showing one's head and shoulders whether one is "eastern European", "Celtic", etc.? How would you do that? What is the difference betwixt "eastern European" and "Celtic" physical appearance?

:)

Life / I saw Polish nationalism today [249]

Hello, Mr Grunwald. Please read, if you want to, my comments on the Independence March events in the thread "Muslim Fanatics Burn Poppy". If I have enough time, I will try to scribble another piece on the events, based on credible Polish press reports (which, of course, don't include stuff from the Gazeta Wyborcza).

Hooligans, obviously enough, show it. They are unquestioning in their support of Nazi ideology and are unflappable in their conviction. Watch Ross Kemp's documentary film on Polish hooligans, available at Google Video. Nationalism on display!

Who specifically do you mean by the "hooligans"? Do you mean by them the pseudo-antifascist, in fact communofascist thugs who tried to break by violence the Independence March? Or do you mean by them the patriotic participants in the March? Who specifically is "unquestioning in their support of Nazi ideology" and "unflappable in their conviction"? What specific conviction? Do you mean one should watch Kemp's film in connection with the Independence March? If yes, then why? Do you suggest that nationalism and its "display" is wrong? If yes, do you also think so about your own Scottish nationalism, or, for example, Irish nationalism?

History / Poland is great Mother of all Slavs from Baltic to Balkan [177]

One person can't speak for 40 million individuals.

If so, aren't you speaking above for them, including, ahem, myself?

Unless he's met them all and canvassed their opinions

Have you?

... So that's what you meant when you stated: "Most people in Poland have probably met few if any Poles"?

In central Europe we are a mixed bunch :)

Poles and Germans are closer than Poles and Serbs, everything else is artificially created theoretically (on both sides).

That seems to be correct. Some of the greatest Polish patriots have been of German origin, e.g. Wincenty Pol. But we also like and respect Serbs.
