Australia / I would love to meet Poles living in Sydney [56]

Well many places are good places to visit... but Australia's tourism is well renowned. I think you and your missus would have a wonderful time here. (Just make sure you don't hit any recent disaster zones...)

It's everyone's maybe someday place cause it's alllll the way on the ''opposite'' side of the world. ;)

Australia / I would love to meet Poles living in Sydney [56]

Anyone kin for a beer or two in Ashfield club? Could be Wednesday, Thursday, Sat or Sunday, I am easy as I live nearby

Hi Dobruska,

I'm keen.
It's a ways for me, but I want to visit the club before I leave Sydney.

I don't speak Polish (because I'm not Polish) but would be interested to chat with you about your move here and about Polish/ Aussie issues generally.

I'm free next Thursday for a Tyskie. PM me if you don't get a better offer. ;)

All the best.

Australia / Category 5 Cyclon Yasi approaching Queensland [23]

?? You don't like them, maybe?

That's snot what I meant... people always accuse Aborigines of being more primitive than the next anthropomorphic group due to lack of remnant structures, static forms of habitation and absence of monuments that symbolise their beliefs in some way... when in fact it is quite evident that it would have served no higher purpose when you look at the destructive nature of our climate and the weather they would have had to contend with.

No I'm just stating that they probably figured out that it would have been useless to waste time in this heat building stone structures for architects to unravel in the future... you know, useless, like the pilot who fails to do the landing component of his training course... ;P

Do I seem like a racist to you? I may be a little overwhelmed by human stupidity at times but I appreciate and value life way too much to be a racist. You Europeans are always looking for the obvious race card... not so... don't project your foreign policy onto us... ;P

I believe to *really* understand any nationality, you need to don their colours and stand beside them in a sporting match...

The fact is that the whole place could burn to the ground overnight and Australia would *still* be the greatest country on earth... ;D ... though if the weather keeps up like this, I'm moving to New Zealand!

Rain, floods, cyklons.... and now for a slight change...fire...

We're nothing if not interesting...

And people wonder why Aborigines never left behind great civilizations...!

Genealogy / Polish looks? [1462]

Exactly. That's the reason you often see a beautiful woman with a pretty average man or a handsome man with a very average girl. They figured it out. Most gorgeous looking couples split. Hollywood comes to mind.

I'd rather average looks but profound beauty... ;P

Cheer up NomadaNet. You are too pessimistic, and stop thinking about nukes. Doom and gloom attitude is depressing. Neither you or I can stop the future or some deranged, power hungry idiot to press the button.

Just change the U to I and you have 'Nikes' in every sentence... not so bad... tehe.

Life / Rate Poland (Life Quality / Culture and People / Food): 1-10! [232]

Have any of you ever see a trailer inside? They can be amazingly huge and comfortable, unlike the tiny apartment in blocks.

I used to live in one in England... All's I can say is that I *accommodated* to its size...

But I guess, like everything in the States, big is beautiful, and plentiful is the master of men's destinies... ;)

yep, in the big cities for sure but no chance in the rest of the states.

Horseback? ;D

It's the same with the speed limit on the German autobahns, the huge car companies have their hands on it there too and that's why the Germans still enjoy to drive as fast as their cars can go (not everywhere though).

I remember doing over 240km/hr in a convertible Merc going along the old Castle Road with my Dad and his nutter friend Albert from Lubeck... I think we got there an hour later! ;)

now you're talking like an America expert Ash :-) Where do you have this information from? I'm asking because I've never heard about it.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_American_streetcar_scandal

A streetcar named desire...?

You should check out this flick too...

An interesting look at just how invasive the motoring lobby has been in curbing the rights of ordinary citizens to CHOOSE between car ownership or an alternative... (remove the option?)

It depends. I personally don't see it that way. At least not in the US.

Well in terms of resource use, use of space and in many cases, utilisation of time... public transport wins hands down (in cities and medium sized towns...)

It's just what the government invests its money and policies towards...

In many ways, up and developing countries today know this and major cities of the future will be learning from the mistakes of more car dependent *super highway cities* by developing alternative infrastructure to accommodate for an increased use of mass transit in its stead... (high speed trains and such)

And of course the motoring industry needs to compliment this by designing more efficient cars over luxury vehicles... ;)

Love / Polish girlfriends testing guys with "Are you Angry with me" texts [59]

What would you answer to that?

You need to work out if they're being kind or respectful... cause being gracious on it's own ain't worth sh1t.

How would a strong man reply to that, to spark more attraction?

Text her a picture of your d1ck and ask her when she's coming over...?

I know this is extreme mind-playing from their part,

Oh yeah...? It sounds like grade school infatuation... In *real* games the punishment tends to be a *bit* more prolonged... ;)
I mean do you want childish texts or do you want to get busy...? Treat them like a princess and that's what you'll get. You ain't making anyone weak in the knees with your level of creativity.

SOUTHERN actually is a great smart guy

I don't think even *he'd* respond too kindly to that accusation...

Huge thank you guys!

And a *big* thank you to you... ;)

I personally find even more disgusting than trailer parks

What's disgusting about the way people live...?

it's because most of us have at least 2 cars (family) and the mass transit wouldn't be lucrative here at all.

No it's because the motoring lobby bought it all out and brought it into disrepair... Ain't nothing shameful about a good public transit system. MUCH more efficient than private motoring. And have you been to L.A lately??

A remnant low and a La Nina system which is now dominating the eastern pacific...

You know I woke up this morning and really *felt* what it must be like to look at your family home - your whole town! Destroyed by something like this... f*cking traumatic!

Everything swept away and beyond recognition... poor bastards. The climate certainly brings folk here together... I would say it's our culture?

Anyway I'm grateful to say that the tropical heat has now eased off somewhat...
What's it like down your end...? Dry?

Love / POLISH GIRLS... wake up and prove you are respectable.... [135]

Those who break hearts ... it aches for that consequence. Just be careful who you love ... be sure that he loves you. It is always a better thing to go to the person who loves you ... not the person who you love (initially). Eventually you will fall in love with the person who actually loves you truly and responsibly ... who wants a family with you. Its a deep philosophy. Think about it.

Thank you, I think you're right...

Some are born reckless...

Yes it is. Men often don't understand women and women don't often understand men although we speak the same language. This is both fascinating and frustrating.

If some women came in men's bodies, there'd be no need for them at all!

Australia / Difficult situation with moving (Australia-Poland) [37]

A good business man/woman should have the natural instinct to foresee such problems.

Yes, and of course if you're all knowing then you probably wouldn't need the instinct in the first place...
Big companies can go down like flies overnight. We saw this happen just a few years ago...

So there would be an opt out clause. I believe marriage is for life.

Of course. But I have seen too many divorces to know that that is not the case. Of course I believe that everyone should be forgiven their sins... but not everyone has that capacity for forgiveness. You must be happy with your situation. Congratulations...

Stubborn- I agree with. Frank- I do not agree with, when put on the spot I have found Poles frugal with their openness.

Curt is probably more the word. Lacking in tact sometimes...

I respect this quality in Poles.

Of course, but only if it marries well with the situation they are in... You can't take *everything* with you when you leave a place. And that includes Polish ketchup!

Yes the Blue T-shirt could be Slavic... although I suspect it was made in China.

Australia / Difficult situation with moving (Australia-Poland) [37]

I will say that I consider the Australians a little like a cadburys cream egg, hard on the outside and soft in the inside, just my observation.

I don't mind that analogy... :) It's better than being thick all the way through...

A business that fails is down to a ineffectual Board,Owner,Manager who lacked experience and knowledge.

And sometimes it's down to external forces... or corruption, greed, selfishness and mistrust...

A President is voted by the people for a period of four years.

And what a good idea it would be if vows had to be renewed every four years?

I don't quite see the relevance to your post and this thread about Australians assimilate in Europe.

It's to verify that it has been done. It's not an unachievable feat. I mean being away from pierogi and ice capped winters *is* a possibility for most humans... (It's called getting over it.)

And btw, Poles aren't that tough. They're stubborn and frank, but they sometimes struggle to deal with the simplest of challenges... and cultural steadfastness is their biggest problem in this respect...

Whats wrong in being respectful and caring towards ones parents?

Nothing! But then probably not best to shack up with an Aussie bird from the other side of the world who might also have similar ideas about being near and caring for her family...

Caring for family is not the monopoly of the Poles... If they knew this then they would respect that we *all* have obligations to be near our families, and would try to work out a solution that best serves *both* parties in a mature and sensitive way... This brother's just being selfish. I doubt whether he cares for anyone...

It *just* becomes an excuse sometimes I fear. And the OP has stated that her husband has no obvious family commitments that she would obviously respect were they apparent... so she evidently knows a thing or two about how Poles operate on this level.

oz is a long way to go without a career.

So's Poland.

I understand that the cultural differences can take time to work through. If some case that could be an hour in other cases a life time, there is no rule.

And there are nooo immigrants here from European countries...? The country's full of them! The Euro-Aussies (Aussie-Euros - whatever!) didn't spring from the ground!

Australian's living abroad have to adapt too... maybe we're just better at it! If you can only be a man when you're living down the road from mummy, then you're not worthy of your wife's devotion...

I have seen many marriages fail that could have worked, IF the couples had discussed their problems and found solutions.

And some things aren't meant to work... no biggy! Why are marriages so sacrosanct? I mean we don't hold on to a business that's going down the gurgler or a President that shows ineffectual leadership... As far as I'm concerned we've all got a right to live and be happy... A few chances then you're out!

People *and* hearts have their limits. People are just afraid of saying goodbye.

Yeah my advice is... whatever she does, do it quick! Cause waiting around for him obviously isn't having the desired effect. (I think she stated this.)

And your advice is more qualified?? I mean I happen to have been in her situation (or very similar) and I *happen* to know what she's missing...

I don't know why people get married... probably because they want the wedding or because they got knocked up or something... But yeah love AND dreams are fairly inseparable...?

If I was agirlfromoz (which I am!) I'd be pretty irked, and feeling a little less than loved right about now. I mean you need dreams to keep the love alive, just like you need love to keep the dream alive...

Let's wait and see what she says about our imperfect advice shall we... I'm not claiming to have all the answers, but I do feel sorry for the girl who probably feels a bit foolish and desperate right now.

It just strikes me that Polish guys have an uncanny way of getting what they want... (Mummy's boys!)

Maybe you got married for the wrong reasons. Marriage is about love and spending your life together, NOT visas and passport. Looks like it is back firing in your face.

Don't be an arse. Marriage is about *both* parties and the dreams they both share... not some lazy arse procrastinator too unsure of himself to make an adult move to be with his wife.

And girlfriend... don't come here for advice... you'll only hear more b*llshit from Polish men too attached to mummy and concealed with Polish male pride to see any wood for the trees.

You know what you need to do. My advice is to treat it like a band aid... Rip it off quick!
