News / No de-Communisation in Poland? [41]

I don't think it's any surprise that those who are obsessed with communists tend to be the ones who have spent their whole life making excuses and complaining. Or indeed, they aren't even in the country.

I take exception to that remark Delph - my in law didn't take the card when "offered" and was shafted double by not being made mine director and also like the huge huge majority had all property confiscated by the state.

And yes, he still disses the old boys on the street who did the people's deputy shite. He's entitled to look down his nose at those kunts.

Mazowiecki and his cohorts sold people like him. And to make excuses for Poland and mantain it was alright that the crims held on their stolen wealth is immoral. Just for straters - we all know if this was Britain the ole president with his sunglasses would not be living in biography funded retirement, but would be languishing in a dungeon - or worse.

Frankly surprised at you Delph - defending the Polish propensity to do nothing if at all possible, but you are so right in that it is now too late........

It wont stop the likes of me spitting at anybody and starting a ruck with anybody in a certain village town that my in laws point out as zomo or ex party.

News / POLAND IS 4TH BEST PLACE TO LIVE IN EUROPE [60]

A couple Of Budweisers or Old Speckled Hen (on offer at 6.99 in Auchan) change ones' perspective. :) Plus, the sun is shining, and all is up for grabs.

Me, I'll just sit back and enjoy a slow weekend, which is what brought me to Poland in the first place 18 summers ago.

Life / Cold winter in Poland this year - Gas Shortages as of Late October [32]

Anyway when is heating by coal going to be made illegal?

what do you propose to use instead?

Gas, nuclear (in ten years), renewables, geothermal, biomass (that one very very limited), hydro-electric (even if outmoded), insulating roof spaces for christs sake ( grants for the same), Scandinavian stoves in the home and any low temperature wood fires banned (pine is a dangerous carcinogen, evenmore so than the dreaded brown coal).

The only reason Poland burns coal domestically today is because the Health Service is cheap and by definition, crap . If you have respiratory disease or cancer that's fine by the Polish government because that means employment for the myriad of dinosaur cottage hospitals scattered around and a living for all the ancillary staff. The second reason is because it's "tradition to burn coal". Nothing to do with that old Polish politicians' excuse for doing nothing ........... "niestety........nie mamy pieniadze....... " (Excuse no Polish fonts, English OP..)

Both excuses are to be stamped on and I am looking forward to Brussels nailing the Poles for continuing to tolerate domestic use of coal - by refusing to grant bigger aid to households to employ different fuels and/or to introduce a carbon tax and/or prohibition.

The reduction in pulmonary disorders would pay for grants in savings to the Health Service - but as politics and priorities are so fukked up in Poland (or should I say - Silesia. where I live - at the moment) - I dont hold out much hope. Grr

Doesn't this subject bother you Sean, living in ole Gleiwitz?

i'm sick of coughing my guts up every winter, even in the so called Middle class detached suburbs.

It is a sick joke. Literally.

Poland is still in the Dark Ages and thr government seriously needs to get an education and get some EU grants kicking in to replace coal in urban areas. An absolute priority number one in my book. Never mind the politics of "but the miners......." Fcuck em.

Rant over.

News / Chechen Congress in Poland, Russia frowns [90]

Russia is demolished and rebuilt Grozny in Chechnya. Do you think it was great investment for my tax money? ;)

Probably yes? There are less Russian boys dying out there now right? :) That's a great investment.

Of course - you could always lerave the Chechens to get on with their own affairs in their own country.

Just a thought.

Why are you out of the blue talking about the USA in a thread about Chechen matters? I don`t understand.....

What? I said that Poland has great inner city deprivation and should not be wasting my taxes on arresting a Chechan leader in exile on the whim of the Russians - but should actually be doing something more worthwhile.

Such as demolishing and rebuilding it's inner cities.

I thought my opinion was clear Pwian.

Disgraceful that the bloke was ever arrested and it makes Poland the laughing stock - as ever. When is this country going to get to grips with it's inner city deprivation and severe social problems and stop punching above it's weight.

Sick and tired of waiting for some action.

Life / Polish "prog" music? I'd be interested to know about bands etc. [30]

I can only think of the Silesian Blues Band and Collage straight up - Not popular any more really, mores's the pity.

Poland needs a Steve Hillage.

Concert venues have been killed off for the likes of me in Poland becasue you cant drink - the Spodek for example in Katowice, runs Poland's biggest "blues" festival - but no beer is permitted.

It's a joke.

And yes mods - that is ON TOPIC - even for you people in the USA who dont value the importance of beer (not having anything drinkable) Lol

PS Fleetwood Mac were not prog rock - they were bluesmen.

UK, Ireland / Advantages of living in Poland as opposed to the UK. [126]

I can`t agree. Strong beer is better in Poland. Sorry.

Who wants strong liver rotting sugar fermented beer? 20 bottle case of Budweiser Budwar 49.40 at Lidl while stocks last. Czech beer at rock bottom Polish prices.

30 quid or 138 zlotys in Britain.

Also better weather, national forests and free access to upland - stupid laws on camping though which are to be ignored at every opportunity.

No country is perfect!

Travel / Poland in photo riddles [3134]

Firstly, I have lived in this country for 40 years and seldom met a person who refused to eat carp.

It's all to do with the cooking - but - carp was cheap - because it was quick growing. But zero taste, apart from what it was cooked in. And those fecking bones!!!!!!!!!!!

Secondly it's not slav food, the Jews introduced it.

Now that the country is richer, no one in their right mind would eat it unless they are Kaczynski supporters (traditional stick in the muds, as carp are.

I always insist the MIL ofeers sandacz and kreguelnia too at Xmas - and good sport as she is - she does me proud :)

PS Answer to photo: Sandomierz?
