And in the end it's their money....and even with only german standard welfare you can be very "attractive" for the poor guys down there!

I guess alot of this is what makes it into the media because of the "excitability factor"!

The normal people are just to normal, rarely make it onto a cover and never the headline....but we are the majority, in the US also as in "degenerate" Europe, no matter the "Zeitgeist".

So...no use to be that pessimist or desperate....just reading less news helps! :)

It's useless to hate women just because of feminism!

And I may remind us males about our history....more and more studies show that before religion etc. came along women might have ruled as leaders and fighted as warriors...them leading men and certainly be equal to them might have been our past and could be our future again. And we as mankind still developed and flourished and grew! :)

Not to forget most women are totally strong without clubbing males over the head all the time with their choice of feminism!

Well, that is one thing which will always be different between man and women! Maybe even the real basic reason for most of the differences, social and cultural...but they are also biological and scientifical....women are made by nature to bear the children, to nurture them....(most) men are just not!

So...total equality is an illusion, and always will be...I don't know how to change that.

But at least the recognition that Ukraine, Europe generally, still is important to the US is there. Of course any patriot will want to spend his tax money at home, especially when things are not running well....that's why we chose govs to find good compromises...for the national AND the global interests...hopefully!

I might guess Putin sees is totally differently....or otherwise he wouldn't demand the NATO borders far away from "his" territory, buffer states between them.

NATO borders are the most visible boundaries of the West and its allies...to "shove" it's influence back would be a really great victory for him and his allies, visible for everybody and their grandmom....a win on the newly contested global map of power.

The US just can't afford to be "shoven back"...first in Europe, then surely elsewhere...the vultures are already waiting. Ukraine is only a big first test!

I'm an ex-GDRian....I share with Putin probably more history than any other here on this board (outsides of real Germans and real Russians)!

He learned his secret service Job in Germany...he speaks german....Germany loved and trusted that man, even allowed him to speak in front of a full parliament in the Bundestag...and he answered this honor with holding his speech in german....

....and then something got totally wrong!

In my personal opinion he feels wronged, cheated, humiliated by the victorious West...a feeling many East-German also share, only without the millions support money pumped into Russia for rebuilding (as it was into the ex-GDR). I don't want to think what would had become of East Germany without all that hard money, but the many soft hurts came with it too, nobody likes to be the loser, the beggar...so East Germans can maybe better relate to Russians than anybody else too. But that understanding about where Putin is coming from and why he still has so much support in the people doesn't help the fact that an invasion of a peaceful european neighbour and killing it's civilians is just a No Go!

More or less you can blame all your arguments on the Europeans! :)

We are so many people, countries...we have a history of rivalries and wars....because we share the same continent!

It's not fair to compare a nation which is more or less a continent on it's own without any enemies with Europe ffs....where every few metres the language and culture and loyalty changes!

Imagine the US states as real countries....you would by now surely show a militaristic history similiar to Europe!

....then why don't you show at least an inkling of that respect to the Ukrainians who so clearly are the underdog in this war and still haven't given up, don't plan to "show their belly"! You even give it to the Israelis (me too, for the same reasons), but not to the Ukrainians who have deserved lots of respect, IMHO!

I dunno....Ukraine NOT in NATO hasn't stopped Putin from invading....even Ukraine giving up their nukes for peace, trusting the West, had been an error in hindsight.

There is a case to be made that Putin was deadset on invading from the beginning, NATO etc. only a useful scapegoat and excuse.

The West, especially Germany, did everything Putin asked for....Merkel stopping an Ukraine membership in NATO already back in 2008 to favour Putin....and it was no use, because NATO was never the real problem!

NATO is said to be considering the possibility of including Ukraine in the defense alliance in exchange for territories ceded to Russia.

The Italian newspaper "La Repubblica" reports on the "hypothesis that was officially discussed at the last alliance summit in Brussels" .

The transaction would mean that Ukraine would give up the territories currently occupied by the Russians, but with the guarantee that the remaining "Western Ukraine" would immediately join NATO. According to the report, Kremlin ruler Vladimir Putin (71) was offered to keep Crimea and all the territories conquered in the last two years in return.

Historical parallel: According to journalists, this scenario is reminiscent of the situation after the Second World War, when Germany was divided into East and West....

....and such a deal would need to be sweetened alot for the Ukrainians! Meaning of course admittance into NATO and EU, and LOTSA aid- and support money from the West for years to come for the non-russian leftover.

And such a deal will probably need another leadership in Moscow....Putin just isn't trustworthy anymore for such a "land for peace" - treaty!

I wondered about that from the beginning....hence my conclusion that is a matter of the heart for him. Even leaders aren't safe from making irrational decisions, and they have lotsa more means to implement them! Especially dangerous in an autocracy without the "check and balances" available in a democracy....
