USA, Canada / My boyfriend is being deported to Poland because his US visa expired, help needed [53]

convex wrote:

No one knows what the overstay rate is. It's not published. I have no clue what the reason is for the change in denying 1:4 to denying 1:9 over the course of 12 months.

just a thought:

it might be worth looking at how many poles actually applied for a visa to the USA 2 years ago, and how many applied over the past year. with the job market being down now, layoffs everywhere, etc., people they typically deny may not be applying as often now because they simply can't afford the trip. successful people with real estate in Poland almost always return. poor people looking for a new life elsewhere generally have less money and overstay.

all I'm saying is, you don't know how many applied, you only know what percentage of them were denied or accepted. during a crisis, people with money are generally not affected, so for them, they're still traveling and still getting visas just as easily as before the crisis because the criteria for "yea or nay" is still more or less the same.

not an opinion, just a thought.........

also, let's not overlook the fact that America had an economic meltdown recently.....this is sure to lower the number of applicants.

Law / I have to fix Karta Pobytu for EU citizens [20]

Jonnie wrote:

Note that this refers to citizens of EU countries only.

what does this mean? that you are an EU citizen?

I've done a KB several times, I can answer some questions, but mind you, I'm American....I don't know where you're from so it may be different.

First, yes, you need Zameldowanie. I didn't know you could get a temp. Zamel. If there is such a thing, I would doubt you can use it. a KB gives you residency for 1 year and you need to have Zamel. the whole time (legally).

yes, they require details of business/work.

a residency card costs around 450zl after everything is said and done.

after you apply, they have i believe 90 days to review it. after the review period, they may come back to you and tell you things you still need.

regarding taxes, well, that is all connected with your work. in order to work here (legally) you need to be registered with the tax office. and yes, you will have to show proof of this.

you said "long time here".....how long? with the current Schengan rules, it's a bit tricky.

Life / Trying to find a good office supplies store in Poland [5]

haha, this thread cracks me up, especially the Hanna Montana part.

i'll never understand office supplies in poland, especially notebooks. haha, i have to always sift through notebook after notebook, just to find one that doesn't have a unicorn on it or a color pattern that would make someone question my sexuality.

Real Estate / House prices in Poland to drop more or rise again? [228]

it's great that your apt. is "rock solid" and that it can withstand scud missles and tank rounds, but honestly, a lot of people say that about apts./houses out here, and i just don't see the point of it.

my family, and all of my friends back home in Duhmerica have wooden houses. 2X4's, plywood, sheet rock, some insulation, i juz. dom. unless you're anticipating tornadoes or hurricanes, what's the point of spending all that money on brick and concrete and whatever else people use out here to build their........fortresses. i'd love a brick home, they look beautiful and I'd assume hold heat quite nice, but would I spend an extra $100,000 so I could have brick? no. as for hurricanes and tornadoes....i guess that's what home owner's insurance is for.

I'm afraid to comment on this one because it's possible Torq left his computer on while he was in the bathroom or picking up the mail or something and some little kid walked by and posted something really quick when he wasn't looking.

Language / Polish was chosen the HARDEST LANGUAGE in the world to learn... :D [1558]

ooohhh, i guess i'll throw another question up. please translate these sentences into Polish:

"with a few women"

"with a few men"

"with a few men and women"

"with a few children"

"with four children"

"with four women"

"with four men"

and, for the hell of it, "with eight children".

just another attempt to show the inefficiency of Polish. the true test here would be if all native Polish speakers on this forum would have to type an answer right away without calling Kasia or Piotr or Magda for their opinion, along with everyone typing their answer simultaneously so that they can't read posts from others and then say, "OOOHH...that's right, it should be xyz...."

anyway, enjoy!

two things:

1) If you assume I already know how to do it, why would you then give me advice on how to do it?

2) Why the hell would I write the answers to the questions????!!!!! I posted those questions to "show how inefficient the Polish language is," and all that good stuff. Why would I challenge people on this forum with questions, and then immediately thereafter post the answers???!!!

by the way pappy, I don't see any of your answers....;)

etc. etc.

i know the sheer number of English verb tenses can be a bit tedious to start, but you simply can't compare them to Polish.

let's see:

I will have......future perfect.....now insert ANY past participle of ANY verb, and you are set. Change the person from I to he, she, we, they, etc. etc., no difference.

Have you had....present perfect.....same story. insert ANY past participle of ANY verb, use the same I, we, he, she, they, it, you.....on and on.

Polish? you chose byc? ok.....

jestem, jestes, jestesmy, jestescie, jest, sa, bylem, bylam, byla, bylo, byl, bylismy, bylysmy, byliscie, bylyscie, byli, byly, bylbym, bylabym, bylby, bylaby, byloby, bylibysmy, bylybysmy, byliby, bylyby, bylibyscie, bylybyscie........bede, bedzie, bedziemy, bedziecie, bedziesz, beda......badz, badzmy, badzcie, bedac......on and on.

and we haven't even mentioned "bywac".

imagine how big a task that is for a Polish learner when a new verb is introduced.

once you hear a new verb in English, you can immediately insert it into a sentence using any person, any tense....all you need to know are the present, past and past participle forms. 3 things to remember per verb. the rest.....all English verbs follow the same damn pattern.

English most certainly has it's difficulties, but it's 100 fold easier to use and learn new English verbs compared to Polish.

Travel / Why some travelers hate Poland? [45]

if we're talking strictly from a tourist's perspective, i can't understand why a traveler would hate Poland.

Polish families in general are quite hospitable, so if you're popping in and out of apts. for a week or two visiting a friend's family for example, there's really not much to dislike.

it's still zloties here, so chances are your currency allows you to spend freely.

if you're a dude, well, we all know about polish girls....some of the finest specimens in the world.

the country in general is quite safe, assuming you're white.

although they're not clean, PKP, trams/buses are reasonably priced, and regarding trams, most foreigners don't pay for tram tickets anyhow.

for a foreigner, late May to late August, Poland can be an enjoyable place to visit.

Law / Visa Stamp if you overstay (American with a Polish Wife) [29]

i know a small handful of expats in poland. every single one of them are, or were before they left, living here either on a work permit or karta pubytu.

there's another difference worth mentioning.....when americans overstay their visas in poland, it's generally because they simply don't know the law (like the guy that started this thread) or they weren't sure but came anyway and didn't do their paperwork in time, whereas then this person usually ends up going back home. the same can not be said for america.....when foreigners come, they know damn well what the laws are and how long they can stay, and generally end up staying for a much longer time.

in america, nearly every native born pole i knew was living illegally or wound up in america on some fly-by-night sketchy marriage decision. along with that, while living in poland, i routinely hear, "oh, my brother was in america and lived with our aunt for a year.....," or, "yeah, I worked there for 18 months, i just overstayed my visa and then came back to poland eventually," and the like.

it's simply routine in America. those that don't believe this are those that haven't lived in America to see for themselves.

to all that like to ***** about it, quit *****ing about the visa issue between america and poland. poles overstay their visas....constantly.

everybody should be subjected to a country's laws. if you're an american living in poland and you overstayed your visa, it's time to go back home.
