Real Estate / Poland: the building boom goes on [28]

What would happen if the majority Poles abroad had to return home due to the world recession. It would be back to square one again. Tusk and Co would have to admit that nothing has been achieved and that its all illusion perpetuated by spin.

Real Estate / Poland: the building boom goes on [28]

My point was "If they returned back to Poland" My point is that it would be very similar to the pre 2005 state. Unemployment etc..

Life / Cannabis / Weed in Poland... How much does marijuana cost per gram and how easy is to get it? [355]

By keeping pot illegal
the governments can maintain social control, allows permission for random urine samples on workers, make huge profits from the high prices. Right wing parties can get elected by saying it a lethal drug. Will stop the mainstream getting stoned and tuning out of consumerist society.

All though the future with peak oil,the collapse of currencies, water shortage etc etc. I think the war on weed will slacken due to economic reasons.

History / Is there any part of Polish history that's at least a bit glorious? [239]

What a statement form an English nationalist. Have you no cop on buddy. Look into the disgraceful history of your own country that raped half the world, and yet no apology.

From Penal times to Bloody Sunday. The Poles are angels compared to the Brits.

Work / CV/Resume style standards in Poland [17]

I think the (Polish)Catholic mentality may encourage this kind of out 0f date bulsh1t. Photo,DOB marriage status. If there are very little jobs, they can probably get away with anything in order to choose the "perfect worker". They could probably ask you if you go to mass or not, if they wanted. How-ever if you no someone on the inside, you wont even need a CV.

Then again, you only have to read Barbara Ehrenreich book on "job coaching" in the USA, to see how the whole thing has turned into a circus on a world-wide basis.

Life / I saw Polish nationalism today [263]

I'm not tolerant person. I hate people like you. I think that people who are a danger for society should be jailed. There is no place in society for a margin. I don't have any compassion in my heart

Sounds like autism.

Law / Zloty lifts Poland's Economy [58]

The bailouts are design to pump more money into fail banks as the tax payer gets austerity put on them to pay for all.

News / A devestating verdict on the Polish church [279]

Hard to attack somebody who was in the thick of the fight during the years of wilderness.

Could the same not be said about the, once upon a time hero Robert Mugabe.

News / Sikorski doctrine - Eastern Europe under threat. Poland's foreign policy. [203]

What about the Russian oligarch and the free-market economy. Maybe the Russians and the USA are at peace nationally, but maintain a public facade of conflict in order to massage and supervise the Baltics and Poles etc.

The Poles, in vain, are waiting for the post 1989 payback from the American, and for their token support in the war against terrorism but(were duped) they're p1ssing in the wind. The second biggest force in Iraq are the private security companies, so the Polish participation will not, in anyway help provide them with US defense against their historical big bad wolf, the Russians. The conflict in the free-market world is much more subtle and dispersed than the nationalist mind-set can grasp.

News / A devestating verdict on the Polish church [279]

Pope John Paul I died only 33 days into his Pontificate (August 26, 1978 - September 28, 1978). Some say he was murdered by the mafia because he wanted to tackle the financial corruption and hypocrisy of the church.

History / Poland in a Slavic Union/Alliance/Federation? [335]

This whole over-identifying with ethnicity is to do with the ruptured development of a historically, wounded and battered people. Unfortunately Gods playground has created a generation of childlike reactionaries lost in the wilderness of regression; who find hope in a false sense of unity through raw hate in the pretense of having a common culture. As if ultra nationalist care anything for actual culture. They may preach about culture, publicly in the lowest common denominator manner but their true love is male bonding, pumping weights, arm wrestling and harboring ignorance.

What has struck me when reading or watching inter-Slavic conflicts is the sheer numbers of deaths involved and how they are treated as merely statistics.

If you look with perspective, you will become aware of the obvious, and no longer see the world as an ant does. The problem with the fanatic is that he has the wrong end of the telescope stuck to his eyeball,he has what Milosz called a 'captive mind'.

UK, Ireland / Polish and Irish people are related? [137]

Due to Penal laws/famine etc etc etc etc and a general hatred-disregard for the Irish, the Irish over-identified with the Roman catholic church(which was itself seen as alien by the Celtic/Christians). The Polish also over-identified with the church, due to Godless communism. I think modernity alone, would have seriously sliced the power of the church in Poland decades ago. Poland and Ireland have this in common, imperialism kept the church strong, long past its sell by date.

UK, Ireland / Polish and Irish people are related? [137]

last 25 years in Ireland

Not even that long, remember how hard it was to get a condum. A large proportion are conservative still in Ireland as their "present" reactionary contempt for the church is quite shallow, and their newly acquired liberalism is NOT deep seated, but only lip service.

Although I would worry about the church power in Poland, much more so than in Ireland.

UK, Ireland / Polish and Irish people are related? [137]

Not sure about that.

My point was, that the 'modern day' church was strengthened by the commies, and that the church did not have a quickly eroding influence, as it did,in other european countries.

UK, Ireland / Polish and Irish people are related? [137]

was because of the strengthening and connection with "Polish" identity.

True!and it survived modernity undamaged because of the commies.

From an Irish point of view, much of the strength and identity, as has been mentioned, comes from the anti-Irish/catholic laws of 18th/19th C. Prior to that, many of the Irish freedom fighters, Wolfetone, McCracken etc were protestant.

True.

UK, Ireland / Polish and Irish people are related? [137]

When i look at Irish women and Polish women,i doubt very much we are in any way related.

And I see pûrn in every petrol station, little shop and on TV here in Poland.

and the pûrn is not on the top shelf, so, perfect for those in wheelchairs and the children. When i was young in Ireland the only pûrn in Ireland was the bra section in the Family Album Catalogue.
