Language / Too many English words in the Polish language! [709]

How can a language act imperialistically?

The dominance of the Anglo-American culture and the English language has reached a point which I personally find "unhealthy". I simply don't want to live in a uniform world where every country looks, tastes and sounds the same.

Language / Too many English words in the Polish language! [709]

Both used the term 'carton' to refer to a box...

This is an interesting aspect. Never thought about it, although it seems as if it's a natural development of the language you're describing here. Pretty much like Pidgin English in isolated areas. The word "carton" is used in the US as well, by the way...

then I'm sure you are neither British nor American

Actually, I'm Australian. But with international "background": my dad's Polish, my mum is German.

Sometimes I get the impression that this is the world they would love

Put it this way: it makes travelling and doing business much easier.

News / 2009 Quality of Life Index: Poland behind Czech, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia.. [52]

Well, The roads are good here

C'mon. Everybody is complaining about our crumbling highways and bridges (well, at least here on the west coast that is), about the joke of a power grid we have, and so much more. To rate the American infrastructure as an A+ is way over the top. A B- would be fair IMHO.

...safety is good also unless you live near urban blacks

... or near urban white trailer trash, near urban Latinos, near urban Chinese, ...

Seriously though: there are far too many nutters running around with guns in this country, killing far too many innocent people. And the crime statistics doesn't look too good either:

Thats because you live in Mexico

California has been handed over already? ;)

Complaining doesn't equal fact

I suggest that you drive the I5 north and see for yourself...

It's really not bad

Except for the rolling blackouts and the loss of power every time the wind reaches 15 mph.

I live with all of the above

Never been to Ohio. Does Dayton really have the same problems as the Bay Area? I"m surprised.

Genealogy / Krupski name [36]

I assume you have checked familysearch.org already? There are plenty of Krupski (incl. many name variations) in the LDS database - some pointing to the Prussian part of what is now Poland. Maybe you can find some hints by checking the Prussian members of the family. Many settlers from Prussia moved to Russia, as you might now, and you may find a connection.

I might just have to save for a couple months and pay to join a forum.

Nah. Just wait until Ancestry has a trial offer again. Last time I looked they gave away 2 weeks for free. Regarding settlement in Russia, do you know this source already?

News / German legal discrimination against Polish speakers [209]

...and depriving man's kids of part of their heritage

Correct me if I'm wrong (I can't read the article): it sounds as if the father is riding the "political correctness and racism wave" here just to press the authorities and his ex. All this talk about "depriving the kids of their heritage" is somewhat over the top in my eyes. Maybe the kids don't even want this heritage, or they are so young that they don't understand what that actually means?

Would you like to be told what language you must speak

Well, I've seen signs on shop fronts here which said "In this country we speak English"...

I don't know the background of the whole story, but I cannot imagine that the Jugendamt simply told the father to shut the f*ck up and speak German to his kids. If that really happened, then there must be something else behind it. As I said before: I believe that both parents are having a fight at the expense of their children, and the father is trying to succeed by pulling the racism card.

The article is about discrimination against foreigners

... printed in a Polish magazine to boost sales. And didn't you say "we like to rank on gerries just for sport anyway"? ;)

She was preaching about how German people are a beautiful pure race and that they shouldn't mix with disgusting blacks, Jews, and POLES.

You made that up, kid. I've never seen anybody behave like this - neither in Germany, nor here in the US. Even our American white supremacists aren't so stupid to spread their hate speech openly in a college.

See the poster above your post, he is your speed.

I realize that you only see what you want to see.

1jola

Have you read what I wrote above the link I provided? Obviously not. The story about the Hamburg Jugendamt has to be taken with a grain of salt (actually, make it a big sack of salt) because we don't know any of the background details. Same is true for the claim of kidnapped children in Poland and the behaviour of the Polish authorities. That's all I wanted to show you. So let me try again: don't believe everything you read or hear.

Don't call me kid.

What do you expect? You're a student and you post fairy-tales. :)

If you have never heard of white supremacist groups shouting in public streets

And you can't read either. I said "...openly in a college"

Also, it's not like the German girl said that in front of a class. I didn't say that. Me and my buddy were talking to her and that's what she mentioned to us

Well, then why did you say "She was preaching about how German people...". Preaching and talking privately to two persons are two completely different things.

BB and 1jola, try this: google.com/search?q=Wojciech+Pomorski+Jugendamt+hamburg+Bergedorf

It seems that the guy has beaten his ex wife and his kids in the past, and the Jugendamt overreacted afterwards with their way of providing "child protection".

The way the Merkel Regime acts is no different to the way the Hitler and the Honecke Regimes acted.

Hey, a South African is teaching the Germans about racism. How's that for a change? I understand your grudge, but that doesn't change the fact that your comparison is utter nonsense.

What is there to get?

If you agree with the South African that the current German government is comparable to Hitler's, then you belong in a mental institution, my friend. As I said: you don't get it.

I've never met...

... and I love you, too. :)

The fact remains there are many people in western Europe with this Nazi ideology.

What do you call 'many'? Compared to the total population, the number of real (neo) nazis in Europe is tiny (probably comparable to the US, but it's hard to find any statistics), and they definitely don't have any influence on a government as this nutter from South Africa implied.

USA, Canada / Why are there so many Poles in America? [6]

wikipedia is a reliable source

LOL! About as reliable and balanced as a fairy-tale.

Prussian Empire

self-proclaimed dictator, Kaiser Wilhelm

I suggest you either read some history books or concentrate on composing music... :)

This type of treatment is what propelled thousands of Poles to depart Europe in search of freedom

Sorry, but that's nonsense. The main reason for the people to leave Prussia/the German Empire, Russia and other European nations was widespread poverty (and disease) and the promise of a better life abroad.

The Poles could collect lots of information, too, and educate the world

Sorry to be blunt: you want a Polish version of the Jewish Holocaust industry?

Life / Fat People in Poland? [161]

Ive seen plenty of overweight German tourists in thier speedos, enough to make me sick! Put some clothes on and a razor couldnt hurt either to shave those hairy European backs along with those sexy women with the hairy armpits

To quote yourself: "that is just another stereotype" ... :)

History / Have Poles blood on their hands? :) [496]

No, I want a Polish version of the Polish and Jewish and Gypsy (etcetera) Holocaust. Is that wrong of me to want?

Yes, it would be wrong simply because you would end up with just another half true version of history. This time from a Polish perspective, which isn't necessarely the truth (and nothing but the truth...) either. If you want something that comes close to what really happened, then you will probably have to combine the Jewish, Polish and German (and maybe even Russian) versions of history.
