News / Mass immigration to Poland - article and response [479]

As should all people claiming refugee status.

Agreed.

I am just sick to death of people telling me about Fing good for nothing refugees.
Most people who are refugees have been through hell and back only to be met by ignorant muppets when they're in relative safety.

But unless they are properly vetted, you can't be sure the riff-raff aren't floating to the top of the Refugee Lists. Amazing what tens of thousands of dollars paid to an "agent facilitating travel" will do for somebody who wants to get out. The real refugees are probably the ones who don't have that type of cash.

f*ck me, canada would even be harder to get to

Definetly a longer trip, more complicated for sure.

good welfare system there as well

Canada has been a bastion of refuge for years. I think that is part of why Canada / US relations has been in the toilet since 9/11. That and successive liberal majorities in government. Yes, we are more "socialist" than the US, for sure. Health, welfare, benefits. High taxes to pay for it all though.

a couple of boats recently have sabotaged themselves to ensure they get entry.

Somebody tipped the government off that the boat was on it's way over. In hindsight, they should have been turned back then. Now we will spend millions discussing whether they are a threat to national / international security over the next couple of years. Fortunately, we are starting to take the issue of who comes to Canada a little more seriously. No doubt it is partially in response to US pressure, but also after several high focus issues with these immigrants.

There has been a lot of backlash about recent honour killings, and great debate (urged on by a muslim group none the less) about the wearing of Burkas, nikabs etc. in Canadian society.

how many countries did the tamils pass through to get to indonesia (also considering that india a mainly hindu country is the neighbour of sri lanka)?

Yes, why did they have to come half way across the world to find a safe haven?

Why whas the ownership of the ship they came in on disguised to hide the fact that the Tamil Tigers were the true owners? Why was there traces of explosives found on the ship and at least one of the "refugees"? Why were the refugees predominantly male? Women and children don't have reasons to leave the area? Hmmmm.

Canada is a country with a very large Tamil dispora, and are quite adept at fundraising, and wreaking havoc on Toronto streets with protests.

79 Tamil refugees are trying to get into Australia at the moment. Poland should take some of them , me thinks.

Me thinks they should be evaluated carefully. Canada too, is on the receiving end of these "refugees". Could they really be fighters trying to play the system?

In the interview, Mr. Gunaratna said he looks forward to the cross-examination at the Immigration and Refugee Board, and reiterated his assertion that many of the migrant men are members of the Tamil Tigers, which is listed as a terrorist organization in Canada.

I scored a respectable 2%.

You are not Polish at all or you don't deserve to be. If you are not Catholic, you have refused the truth, Jesus Christ, God and Poland. Catholicism is the national religion of Poland. If you can't speak Polish, you are definetly not Polish!

Edit: In the second test, it was determined that I am 100% Polish. Not bad, only took me 14 years. Does it count towards citizenship?

USA, Canada / Do many Polish people in America hate Americans? [592]

What I think Scrappleton is getting at is back in the 50's (well, before globalism, anyways) the US was a country that made what it needed. Relatively little was imported (save for some foodstuffs?). Back then, there was less of a gap between the haves and the have-nots. The middle class was thriving. Now with globalism, the middle class is under attack, and is shrinking. With a stronger middle class, well paying jobs were more abundant, more people could afford stuff. Now with those well paying jobs off shore, you see more McJobs, Wal-Mart cashiers and the like. They are less able to afford some of the big ticket items than in the past.

We rarely have to go abroad for materials

True for the most part, but energy is a big one. Below is a list of top 12 imports and fastest growing imports into US for 2007. There would have to be some emphasis on replacing some of these items in the US Economy.

·Crude oil... US$237.2 billion (12.1% of US total imports, up 9.5% from 2006)
·New and used passenger cars ... $134.1 billion (6.9%, down 1.1%)
·Other automotive parts and accessories ... $73.4 billion (3.8%, up 5.1%)
·Medicinal, dental and pharmaceutical preparations ... $71.7 billion (3.7%, up 11.3%)
·Computer accessories, peripherals and parts ... $63 billion (3.2%, down 6.7%)
·Other household goods ... $56 billion (2.9%, up 8%)
·Cotton apparel and household goods ... $50.9 million (2.6%, up 4.4%)
·Other petroleum products ... $48,380,630 (2.5%, up 9.4%)
·Telecommunications equipment ... $44.3 billion (2.3%, up 10.2%)
·Computers ... $40.9 billion (2.1%, up 21.2%)
·Television receivers and other video equipment ... $39.8 billion (2%, up 11%)
·Electric apparatus and parts ... $35.6 billion (1.8%, up 5.9%).

Growing 12
·DVDs, CDs, tapes, and disks ... US$3.3 billion (up 160.6% from 2006, up 130.1% from 2003)
·Nickel ... $4.7 billion (up 47.1%, up 333.2%)
·Other military equipment ... 2 billion (up 39.9%, up 179.6%)
·Nuclear fuel materials ... $5.5 billion (up 39%, up 91.3%)

You are correct sir...

i would simply get rid of the blue bastard (;

And in Canada, we would feel sorry for the blue pencil, and invite all of the pencils originally in the case with the blue one to come over and keep him company. We would make sure that he is sharp at all times and provide him with sharpeners that come with instructions that can be clearly understood by a blue pencil.

subconscious racism.

Racism of different sorts on both parts. If Lodz-the-boat were here, he would probably put the rest of the pencils in disarray, just to make the blue pencil feel comfortable.

I would HAVE to move the blue one to the end of the line,

There is the difference. In Canada, we would move the blue pencil to the front of the line.

USA, Canada / Do many Polish people in America hate Americans? [592]

This only stresses the importance of the US being isolationist going forward.. and I mean for the next 40 - 50 years a least. Maybe even to the point of getting out of NATO. Russia is not in it.. nobody is attacking them obviously. Isolationism is not a panacea, but pretty damn close.

That might not be a bad thing. If it were to include a re-jigged American Foreign Policy, thus reducing the amount of interaction the US has with so many countries, you might take the heat off of yourselves. America, as well intentioned as it may be, doesn't make many friends abroad, based on support of regimes picked by America, nor does it have a great track record at picking winners (as of late, that is).

The great thing about isolationism is that it forces you to do more with less, or become creative in what you have got. The problem with isolationism is that when you go abroad to purchase those materials that you don't have, you may not get the best price (that best price may be reserved for good trading partners).

C.) Cut off all immigration even from Europe.

If you are going to do this, then you may want to get your birth rate up by incentives to those already confined in your borders, as the current birth rate doesn't support the type of growth the US Economy needs.
