Life / Free Poland Health Care - Paying minimal to no Zus [105]

. $200,000 a year and can't even do simple things to save children's lives. How completely overpaid and incompetent.

That sums it up, Delphian. I wish all Americans were ashamed of these facts and wanted to work toward improving health care over here.

Love / Best way to find a Polish husband...ideas? [120]

I know for a fact that internet dating doesn't work

You are probably not going to find quality guys off the www. However, there are universities or colleges. Have you thought about maybe enrolling and living on campus?

that is weird. I'm not sure one of those would turn me on. They all believe in creationism?

Probably but a lot of people aren't too religious outside of church even if they go to church on a regular basis. It just depends.

Go to church??

Church is where a lot of single men hang out.

Then you have club guys but most of them do not want anything serious and are only looking to get laid. Club guys are cooler than church guys on average but the two are not looking for the same things.

that is NOT happening.

Only a dollar maybe. You don't have to give them a lot. When my mom's friend went to these singles nights at this one church, there were some really religious people there and she wasn't attracted to the men that were like that but there were also some there who weren't religious fanatics.

Churches want men and women to meet and get married, so there are plenty of them that host singles night. In fact, my mom's friend and co worker met her husband at one.

If you want quality, commitment minded men, isn't that a good place to look?

Well, okay then. But it's hard to find people who want relationships among the general populous.

Law / Worked for a restaurant in Poland and the owner refused to pay me. [60]

It was a neighbor in her house running a home secretarial business but it was a legitimate job with an application and everything and taxes being withheld. I got a paycheck every two weeks. It was fine for a while, then there were excuses made that the money wasn't there to pay me. They told me to wait a few days so I did and they did pay me late. It got to the point where they were going longer without paying, so that the next paycheck was already due and their plan was to skip one paycheck so I only got paid once a month instead of twice. They wouldn't be able to catch up and expected I wouldn't ask them to because they were neighbors and everything and I worked the overnight shift which is slower than the ones during the day. So I told them I would call the labor board and quit. You never want to tell a neighbor something like that! Never work for neighbors.

Work without being paid? Now, that's a real scam. I have had that happen to me here by neighbors. People can be jerks when it comes to paying others for their work. Everyone would be much happier if no one ever wanted to be compensated for their time and effort. Seems to be the pervasive attitude throughout the world.

Well Acey, I hope you get the money you are owed but it might not be possible. Employers can rip off their employees quite easily unless there is a contract of some kind. That's just the way reality works. Good luck and careful negotiating future employment.

Life / The sale of alcohol at Poland's fuel filling stations [18]

If Poles have no money to pay tickets, it won't do much good issuing them. I guess the answer in this case is to take the booze out of the gas stations.

Where I live, people get DUIs if they drive drunk and it is enforced if people are caught unless they are really good at driving under the influence. They have to pay a huge fine, I think, and take some kind of special class. If they do it again and get caught they lose their license. I don't know for sure because I never have gotten a DUI and would never risk it. It's so much trouble. I don't know anyone who gets them, either.

But as PlasticPole says, there's an easy way around it. ie if you want to drink and drive, you'll drink and drive regardless if it's sold at the gas station or not.

Drinking and driving laws are enforced so there's the trade off.

Can you buy beer in other countries' gas stations? ..........here in the States you can't (I think it's also a no in Canada).

We can buy it at gas stations where I live but it's low point beer. There's a liquor store, sometimes, in the same strip mall though so all one has to do is walk a few feet and go buy whatever they want at the liquor store after they fill up at 7/11 , They can get any kind of liquor they want at liquor store. Six point beer, wine, JD, vodka, tequila, whatever their heart desires.
