Life / Do you think a smoking ban would be a good thing in Polish restaurants and Bars? [217]

It's better that people don't smoke in restaurants much like I don't want someone to smoke at my dinner table. In the UK the smoking ban affected a lot of places for sure. Who wants to stand in the snow and smoke when they can get a few friends and beers and be at home with TV, computer and own music.

History / Polish Atlantis (pre-war Warsaw, Poland in pictures). [38]

Just wondering: did they ever rebuild any of the buildings in these pics back into their former glory or did they just demolish the ruins and put some gross and grey Soviet block instead?

Many were rebuilt but without the unique external decor so although they appeared similar to the original they were missing the decor and looked more like communist era buildings.

Life / Smoking vs. Grilling on Balconies / High Rises in Poland [66]

but why isn't cigarette smoking seen in the same light?

It should be. When my friend and I sit on her balcony in the nice weather the people below are forever out having a puff. All we can smell is cigarette smoke drifting up and it's worse if there are two or three of them out at the same time. Yet everyone loves the smell of grilling so I don't see why people should object to the smell of that.

Maybe their objection is about fire hazard? It shouldn't be because smoking cigarettes is a bigger hazard.

Just grill some stuff and offer it to the neighbours. I bet they don't say no! ;)

Love / WHY DO POLISH MEN LIE? [150]

When talking about lying please note that women are more deceptive than men. Think about it.

Men are deceptive too :)

Who wears the makeup?

Men, maybe even before women...warpaint... ;)

Who um, pads certain body parts?

Men! Sock down underpants is not a women thing, neither is it a new thing! ;)

Who colors their hair?

Men. Grecian 2000 was far more well known that many womens hair colouring products. :)

Who buys ridiculous amounts of shoes? clothes? etc.
Who asks, "do I look fat in (fill in the blank) this?" (and wants a dishonest answer)
Who says "I only look at a cookie and gain 10 pounds" (that's a lie you know)

Men. Lets say in particular sportsmen. Footballers to be precise and American rap stars. :)

As to the query "Why do Polish Men Lie?" Well, it's better than standing up sometimes... :P

UK, Ireland / Mercy flight for dying Polish woman living in the UK [21]

Presumably it would be very distressing for her son to be brought to the UK to see his dying mother. I imagine the rest of the family are in Poland. I imagine her wishes were to return to Poland. I assume she wouldn't want her son to be in a distressed state in a country foreign to him with perhaps not many people around to help (people that the boy would know).

Local people have donated £9000.

Good for them. They have given this lady some time with her son and family. Those people should be recognised in the honours lists for their generosity in a time of need and in a time where they gave up some cash that might not necessarily have been spare cash. Good people.

Love / Polish guys who have never had girlfriends [71]

When was the last time that you had a blood test????

In Poland (and much the rest of Europe) this is not a question a polite male would ask a female in public. It would be part of a more intimate conversation done in private. So don't be surprised at the answer you received.

Life / Do you think that Polish people are rude? [951]

They come here uninvited, want only polish products, to know only polish people, to speak only polish, they give nothing to this country send money home and sign on the dole, its a disgrace.

Who invited you to the forum? No one, so you came here uninvited, posted something that wasn't interesting and then didn't back it up with any evidence.

There are rude Polish people, that's undeniable. But the situation is not how you describe it. So a Polish person was rude to you, deal with it. The woman who shoved me out the way in the street today was rude but she wasn't Polish, so now I should assume that everyone of her nationality is rude....
