News / EU tribunal overrules Polish name contest in Lithuania [150]

From a purely strategic point of view, Russia must be loving the problems between Poland and Lithuania.

From the realistic point of view they can take Lithuania for what I care.It is not possible to reason with them.
I would grand Lithuanian minority in Poland all rights and privileges, but I would expect the same from Lithuanians. They think that they can discriminate against Poles, and they are so important. Well, they are not, and their population equals population of greater Warsaw.

It seems a bit daft that Lith would make exceptions for Poles living there. This isn't Poland after all.

Seems to you is the right expression, but you know nothing about the issue.

Rather Jewish, maybe influence....
Well, are you still claiming that you like Poles?

The problem is that Poland is accusing Lithuania of something, when Poland is doing the same thing themselves.

Sonny, Lithuanians do not honor their obligations. They have sighed agreement with Poland, also they are bound by the EU law.
If there is something of the nature you described in Poland, it is plain retaliation.
Funny though like you always stick for interest of Poland, not!
Even if you know a little you assume much and Poland is always at fault.

it's about time that someone such as Germany

Yes about time that somebody give you what you deserve...

in case of Lithuania but as far as the USA, we were talking about the assimilation of foreigners in this country (the locals in the USA).

I sense BS or double standards.

well, you see the Lithuanians obviously don't share your opinion about it.

Who cares ? !They are bound by the law.

What are Tusks achievements - means something done which is working as we speak! Not future or future generation or bright and optimistic future.
Reforms - ****, pardon my French, Poland is doing nothing but reforms, and them more reforms and then reforming reforms and reform reformer or reformist ....will reforms another reform ....

Thats all is an empty BS!Are you blind?or thick?
new model of higher education - the same every few years is a new model of higher education, funny though that level of education is not improving but standards are lower and lower ...

no it isn't at all. I've heard it from many Poles when I was in Poland. Unless you're disappointed because you believe that I should actually believe that it really was originally a part of Poland.

Poland before the WWII claimed those land being continuance of Commonwealth - part of Lithuanians rejected that connection and were trying to build nationalistic republic.

Poles from the Wilno region were those native of the land who appreciated heritage of the Commonwealth and thereafter they felt connection to Poland, because of culture.

They were absolute majority on said territory and that is that.
Nowadays nobody claimed Wilno but policy of Lithuania towards Poles living there, surly can convince Poles that they should claim those lands.
Assimilation is not an issue here, you are talking forcible assimilation and uniformity, a bad idea.

Only because you guys claim a part of Lithuania as your territory.

Well, I must say that is a very silly sentence,I;m disappointed.

Okay...but that has to do with this polish/lithuanian conflict what exactly?

Everything you say has nothing to do with the thread. Stop trolling.

Nay, they only put a lid on that, and when it will get really tough in Poland, all that blunders and mismanagement if not something more sinister will back-fire into your face and people like you. Top brass will run like rats from sinking ship, you are stuck here, you should be wiser.

So far, it all on the surface is still stagnant because steam (emigrants) was let out, and EU/emigrants money keep it going for a while.

However clock is ticking.

History / Why did Russia attack Poland in WW2? [178]

and badly equipped.

Comparatively, German economy was much better.
Budged of antebellum Poland was a few times smaller than German budged. Additionally, Poles were refused a credit to develop their industry while German were recipient of substantial financial aid - mostly from the Wall Street bankers.

Think is BB, German had crucial advantage in planes 2000 as opposition to 600 plus, and tanks, no matter PzI or other.
As for better lead, well Poland was encircled by German forces even before the war started, in that situation only moron would lose.
I'm not saying that German Army was bad in the military sense of the word.
Plus the Red Army was your ally.
Hope it does sink in this time.

Bratwurst Boy:
If numbers were your main concern Poland should have given in to negotiations with Germany (whose numbers didn't came out of nowhere) to avoid any war

Yeah she should.

"Poland wants war with Germany and Germany will not be able to avoid it even if she wants to."

Provide some source other than that rag or shut up!

but Poles of that time liked to talk big as in "in one week in Berlin".

Really? So did Germans and what more they acted on it.

To be honest that is a secondary issue. The main problem in Poland (I guess in other country's as well) is a lack of solid government working solely for the interest of Polish people.

Given that the US base issue could be solved in amicable manner if necessary.

History / Were Nobles during Commonwealth constituting the Nation of Poland? [37]

Nobles at the time were believing themselves distinctly different from other social group in the Commonwealth.
Where they a separate race as they claimed?
Where they constituting a body of citizens, not unlike those of the Romans of old?
Maybe only nobles were Poles and the others were only Mazurian, Ruthenian,Zmudzian and the like?

History / Are Polish territories natively German? [73]

Bratwurst Boy in a thread about Polish minorities in Germany stubbornly claims that Poland is in fact natively German. Since other people are sick of this discussion in that thread, I suggest we move it here. :)

He claimed that Germans were there first and then along comes Poles met by the local native people.
Let assume for the moment that what he claim is true:
These late comers, not necessarily Poles yet, but say almost-Poles, probably mixed with local Germans or better still with almost-Germans and together had grown into what is know now as Poles.

Those almost-Germans which left were only distant relations.
Meaning Poles are natives of said territories.
It is interesting concept, Germanic tribes plus Romans = French, Germanic tribes plus Celt's = Germans and so on :)

News / Row over status of Poles in Germany sours relations [176]

Poles whine if they don't get free Polish-language schools

nonsense, nobody is whining it is issue of bilateral relations !

Poles consider it perfectly acceptable that the foreigners can be told who they may and may not live with.

Well, I for once don't know what are you talking about !

People eventually get back what they give out, sadly a lot of Poles can not understand that.

Well, maybe it is Australian experience, for Poles it was different - whatever you give out (a gold coin or a good deed for example) you get back ****.

If you have some problems with offices and people behind the desk remember they are not there to do the job, they are there because they have a connections and are happy that they can sit all day and get pay for that.

You are just a nuisance for them ...

Even if we assume for a moment that what you spawn here is possible, these late comers, not necessarily Poles yet, but say almost-Poles, they have mixed with local German or better almost-Germans and together had grown into what is know now as Poles.

As for the thread topic:
I think that Poles should not have granted the rights of minority in German but all the minority rights of Germans in Poland should be revoked. It is only fair! Parents can organize teaching for their children. Simple!

All of those are rights denied in Poland to non-Poles.

You mean to foreigners like you without Polish citizenship?Weren't you bragging that you can get Polish citizenship any-time you want, but you don't need it enjoying full rights as a EU citizen.

Well cry me a river and make a thread about it - here you are off topic!

Where did you read such propaganda?

Well, wasn't those schools funded by Polish money ? Anyhow doesn't matter two or ten subjects as long as they know the lingo, Lithuanian police state should buzz off from those schools.

Merging schools with the intention of closing down Polish onces.
What about property land mainly in Wilno region? Rightful owners still did not get it back.
You should concentrate on your population abroad - how many from 3,5m ? 1m or closer to 2m emigrated ?

Do you know the difference between rights and privileges? Were the rights rudely violated, Lithuania would have faced some sort of penalty by EU.

Right which were agreed upon, and which Lithuanian minority in Poland enjoy fully. Why isn't there not penalty?Beats me, I think they should be punished and the Lithuanian minority rights in Poland withdrew.
