Life / Why is circumcision not practiced in Poland? [701]

So where do you stand on female mutilation

I am against it for sure, you can't compare it with the other.

You will never know how sensitive it would have been had you not had it taken away..

I will not go more into detail :), I am satisfied enough and not curious at all how it would be without.

Look, each to their own, but its not practiced

And there is no reason to practice it.

Life / Why is circumcision not practiced in Poland? [701]

no reason for a baby to be mutilated

good example to exaggeration.

sorry, but i don't think you have any idea what you're talking about :)

Agreed,

Amathyst

I am neutral about it. I am circumcized myself but I believe It wouldn't make big difference in my life if I wasn't. we are not talking abbout cutting nose or the ears. Even having a tattoo in a visible area is bigger decision or might have more influence.

This decision should be made as an adult not by the parent,

There are much more important decisions made by parents even which later shape your character, it seems very logical at first sight but indeed it is not.

No, its because its more pleasurable...Have a look at my links...as I said, its there for a reason ;0)

That links doesn't seem to be very scientific or medical, I don't believe that it can make that much difference.

Life / Polish authors, books & literature. [95]

Then I would recommend the aforementioned writers, and a few others

Thank you, I am interested in literature and living in Poland but haven't read any Polish books yet trying to determine where to start. I made a small research it seems there are translations available for the books you mentioned which is good. Any recommendation from modern Polish literature ?

Life / Polish authors, books & literature. [95]

What criteria would you use to determine who is the best writer or novelist

Only personal taste. There are many different categories, it would be unfair to label one as the best of all. On the other hand I am more interested in literature perspective (not the best sellers or pieces which are popular for short term and does not have any artistic value).

Travel / Why most taxis in Warsaw cheat foreigners to get more money? [38]

Living in Warsaw for two years and I also have never been ripped off. On the contrary my experiences are very positive, Once I needed to visit a friend and the building wasn't easy to find, Taxi driver parked the car asked some people and led me to the building where 200-300 meters walk was necessary. As some ukpolska already said,

- Always choose official licensed taxis and choose companies you already know,
- If possible call the taxi by phone
- Make sure there is a taximeter and it is started, check the increase in the taximeter after first kilometer
- If possible check the destination/distance you want to go using ZUMI,
- Be more careful if you are looking for a taxi in centrum or other central areas,

Life / Do you think women have the place they deserve in modern Polish society ? [31]

Wrong

I said impression, the reason I start this thread to learn how it is really. And so far it seems people do not have big problems about it which is good.

Because you're making your assumptions based on your country's women

It would be true if I was a tourist in Poland, I am here almost for two years.

Life / Do you think women have the place they deserve in modern Polish society ? [31]

As a foreigner living in Poland, I had the impression there is a slight imbalance how women are assessed in Poland (examples can also be seen on PF). This may be true for most countries I wonder what do you think about the subject,

- Are there positive or negative discrimination against women ?
- Do you think feminine attributes (beauty ) creates unfair assessment ( for example in a job application) or it is overly put forward when it comes to women ?

- Are there positive or negative differences on subject in other countries you have been/lived so far ?
- If you think there is something wrong what you would change first if you had political power to do it.

I thought about subject after watching this: euronews.net/2011/03/31/italy-s-picture-perfect-tv-women/

Life / Rate Poland (Life Quality / Culture and People / Food): 1-10! [232]

customer service is absolutely abismal in poland. who is it that ignores me, doesn't want to help me, looks at me with disgust if i ask them a question, doesn't so much as ask if "everything is alright" after i get my meal at a restaurant

Maybe there is something wrong in your approach. I can give many examples that people that I don't know at all tried to help me . Yes customer service in general is not good (I think it is side effect of communism years) but it is improving and if I don't like the service quality I eliminate that shop/restaurant etc and trying to find alternatives with good service.

Anyway I think quality of customer service should be considered in Life Quality section. I only considered people I know for Culture and People question. I don't care if there are racist/narrow minded people (you can find them in any country) as long as they don't harm me and luckily I haven't met one in last 1.5 years.

History / What do Poles think about Turks? [761]

The website has everything except how to get there by public transport.

No public transport from Istanbul. You can only go by your car or may try to contact with travel agencies (sometimes there are weekend tours but I think november is not a good season for that).

History / What do Poles think about Turks? [761]

Has anyone here visited Polonezkoy (Adampol) near Istanbul - I'll be there tomorrow for a month (Istanbul, that is) and would like to see Polonezkoy - it it worth a visit?

What is good about Polonezkoy is nature and food (Very good restaurants but a bit expensive ). Most people go there at the weekends to leave chaos of Istanbul behind. Normally it might not be very interesting for a tourist but you will stay for a long time and you are going from Poland it may be interesting for you. You won't regret if you go you will not loose too much if you don't (if your first time there is a lot else to see in Istanbul).

If you are planning to go at the weekend make your plan carefully traffic is disaster in Istanbul.

If you haven't googled yet here you can find more information.

History / What do Poles think about Turks? [761]

Southern is a fake Greek who has come on here to make me look bad

Yeap I agree he is the shame of his country. Two thing is very clear about him, he know nothing about women (Slavic, Polish, Russian.. any women) and us (Turks).

So they have black hair+dark skin

Have you ever been to Turkey ? If not I think it is time to see it with your own eyes :).

Law / What are the bike laws in Poland? [30]

If you ride on sidewalks you will get a ticket

Really good that some of the Policemen has ignored me while riding on sidewalk. But in the area I lived they are always empty, still they can charge for it ?. Cycling paths are around 2 km from my flat, And I don't want to risk riding on regular roads since I can't count on all drivers (especially some bus and taxi drivers).

Life / Are foreigners welcome in Poland? [275]

Hmm I dare to say that all humans are racist. Some are just more open about it.

No, they are not.

racism and discrimination is sth that doesn't belong in the 21st century. Not in any century, for that matter

Very well said, nothing can be added or removed from this sentence in my opinoin.

Food / Poles prefer pizza & kebab? [73]

dxx

Yes what is served here is not exactly Kebap and most places are not run by Turkish people which is a disadvantage taste-wise. But If you are in Warsaw there are two restaurants which serve something closer to real Kebabs and owned by Turkish people.

News / THE ARMY OF POLAND - THE REALITY [493]

Mr Grunwald

He died while fighting against Turks is true. Rest is a historical story (especially where his body now but most probably not inside Turkish border since the war wasn't somewhere near current borders) neither you (or your sick friend) nor us can proove what exactly happened.

Life / Are foreigners welcome in Poland? [275]

If we return to topic from my experiences yes foreigners are welcome in Poland. I am living in Poland so far for 10 months and I made few trips to different cities, I never had any unpleasant experience (other than my old crazy neighbour but it is sorted out by my flat owner). My colleagues and other Polish People I met so far very open-minded and interested in foreign cultures in very positive way.

While the situation is like that it is strange to see many racists in PF (ahh sorry I forgot most of them are not Polish even most of the time it is doubtful if they have any connection with Poland other than racist propaganda).

History / Poland is great Mother of all Slavs from Baltic to Balkan [177]

Serbians desperately need Polish help

Not really but Polish help would be helpfull. Current Serb government doing well you are finally in the mainstream you should be happy.

without Serbs, Poland would for sure died in silence

This is not correct, Poland don't need anything from Serbs. (Even if there is a historical brotherhood Serbia can only be a extra burden for Poland).

Food / Do Polish people really love cabbage ?? [78]

Yes Cabbage is loved in Poland. And there are many different salads (I don't know their name), some of them are very delicious.

Are there any salty pickles (prepared with salt and vinegar) in Poland ? (cucumber, cabbage). All I tried so far was sweet which I don't like.

every time she gets an indigestion/ sour stomach.

It really helps stomach. Sometimes I eat raw cabbage like a fruit when I have stomach problems.
