I too would like to learn Polish in Melbourne. Have had a look for language schools but can't seem to find any. Does anyone know of any?

Anna

CAE used to have a polish course but have not seen one in their guide's for at least 2 years.

maybe a uni would have a polish course that you could just walk in on.

hmm interesting, do you shop at the Polish Deli in Glenroy, was back there over chrissy

geez, my dad grew up in glenroy as well...small world.

History / What do Poles think about Turks? [761]

you had contact with a select few.. and if ya ask me.. alot of Men
from any country, just name it.. like to drink and find themselfs..

but.. ya only ran across a few .. even I cannot make comments on whats
customary or not. because really I dont know. but. like i said. what I know
is that they did jump in and help poland.. thats deserving of respect in my eyes.

alcohol and sex before marriage are strictly forbidden in muslim culture, among other things. that is well known.

i have nothing against turks, i just find it hilarious thatsome (not all) have this pious attitude later in life after purposelly breaking the rules of their religion.

History / What do Poles think about Turks? [761]

He asked you what you think,, is that your answer?
or are you answering for the whole muslim nation?

you are correct, i too was generalising.

however, i have had contact with turks that like to go out and get drunk and the like then "find" themselves and observe pious behaviour.

History / What do Poles think about Turks? [761]

other muslim countries are not very respected either.. and they been at war
since war became a word.. centuries..

Least the turks helped Poland when help was needed..

the way I see it.. who cares if other muslim countries dont respect you. it isnt like
other muslim countries respect a whole lot to begin with unless its in their own
territory .. ( speaking of govt ) and leaders.. etc.

that is very general Pat.

you cant blame all muslims for a few extremists. the koran is actually a very peaceful and spiritual book, just in the wrong hands, can be turned to another viewpoint.

western and european countries have also been at war since the dawn of man.

So... ?

he asked what the impression of turks are!!

i work/liase with muslims and the turks/lebanese are not seen in a very spiritual light.

Travel / Starbucks in Poland? [149]

Why do you assume that was the context in which that question was asked?

Well, one would ask if there were any cafes, not a specific chain that is globalised beyond belief.

And some of starbucks practices, ie not getting permits and setting up shop are highly questionable.

youre right... and we put milk in our tea as well... weirdos, huh?

you dont also sometimes add sugar as well do you....gasp

we are quite happy to let foreigners visit our country but we like to keep our coffee for our own... its a commonwealth thing... your either a member or your not... we either owned you or taught you how to drink tea and coffee... its an empire thang... you gotsta understand...

taught us the art of tea maybe, the coffee thang would be a more migrant (im guessing italian) influence.

We have a saying here in the UK "you pay for what you get"

it did not matter if i paid more or less, instant coffee was more gratifying taste wise than a cappucino.

thats could be because you are not english and thus dont realise a good cup of coffee when you drink one...

i was unaware that the english were known for their coffee skills. maybe things have changed since i was their 5 years ago. but back then i lost count of the crap coffees i was served.

i think australia has more knowledge in the coffee department, and drink more per capita than any other country.

Not sure that's quite true now. In my house good coffee rules. I rarely make tea.
Reason we have a lot of good coffee shops now is because more people drink coffee than tea.

as i just posted,i was there 5 years ago and decent coffee was hard to in shops that served coffee. it all really hinges on the preparer, if they dont know what they are doing then you are in trouble.

There's a french coffee shop close by and the coffee is just awful/

rule of thumb when in the UK, be wary if a UK resident is making your coffee. they are better at cups of tea than coffee.

would it make a difference if they did not....god forbid that you would have to purchase coffee from a non franchised chain
