Life / If you are Polish abroad or of Polish descent, do you celebrate St. Nicholas day? [33]

yes! I come from Poland and live abroad with my boyfriend (he isn't Polish) and really like Mikolajki (06/12) :-) I like giving and getting a wee pressie on the 6th of Dec. My parents sent us a wee santa claus surprise too this year !!!! I will continue celebrating santa claus day - always nice to see a smile at somebody's face and feel child again when you find something under your pillow!!!

Life / Womans day in Poland? [242]

Yes, Poland had grandmothers day, grandfathers day, namesdays .... and womans day (coming soon)... my scottish colleague asked me today at work: does Poland have any day which is just a casual day, during which nothing is celebrated?

Well, it seems that no! LOL

Love / Should a marriage proposal to a partner from Poland be done in private or public? [27]

Hi Doubtfulllove,

Some men may not realize how important the proposal is to woman but I think your boyfriend is actually aware of it... if you really love him, try to appreciate all his efforts and although there are a few things which you do not like about the way he is making the proposal, do not spoil this (your and your boyfriend) big day - it should be one of most cherished memories for both of you!

Maybe part of the problems is I don't know that I actually believe in marriage and what marriage is really all about.....

hmm, maybe you are not ready to get married (although engagement does not mean that you must marry within a certain time, it could be a sign that both of you want marriage at some undefined point in the future)?? or... maybe it is not the men for you!!!

I understand that you would prefer the proposal to take place in private.
Hmm, how do you know, maybe your boyfriend is going to propose to you before Saturday's party and then he will do it again among your family and friends? maybe a surprise is waiting for you and you dont know about it ?:) I am just trying to cheer you up :)

He has also told me that he has bought a ring and got it sized (which I think means it can't be returned) and given that he has got the other things wrong about me, there is a good chance that he has bought m a ring I don't like...

hmmm, do you really love him? If you do, trust him... If you love him you will like the ring he chose - well, maybe it will sound strange but, it's just a ring!!!! ohhh, believe me, im sure your boyfriend knows you good enough to choose what you really like :)

anyway, the most important is the one (your boyfriend) who gives you the ring (not the ring I think) - well, if you really love him...

I am wondering what are your thoughts...

Work / What jobs pay 10,000 zlotych per month? and Where can i find one? :o) [101]

10.000 PLN gross is quite a common salary for an international company (bigger cities in PL) for people on managemet level. Senior employees of big polish companies can expect high salary as well - its level depends on the company location.

Cheers all!

Law / How to register a new business in Poland [129]

hello,

First of all, you need to know: type and the name of the company, its address, the day when you wanna start the company.
Then you should: go to Urzad Gminy, get REGON (from The Statisstics Office), NIP (tax identification number - you get it from Urzad Skarbowy), sort out ZUS docs, set up company bank account...

Depends on what you do you may need a concession as well.

Owww, I do not think you can sort out all the stuff on line - well, for sure you can set up office bank account ;)

Cheers.

USA, Canada / Getting a VISA to USA by a Polish person nowadays [339]

A Polish friend of mine kept trying to get a visa to US for a few years! She wanted to visit her Sister living in US - she finally managed to get the document but...!

I agree, at times decision depends on person's mood (unfortunately), but nowadays - I would generally say that getting a tourist visa to US is not a problem.

If you have friends/family living in US that is good to have so called "invitation" written by them - as a "supporting tool" - even if you travel as a tourist only.

Hopefully, visa requirements will be cancelled for Poles at some point! Poland considers America as its friend but America does not really help wee Poland...
