Life / 3 reasons why you hate Poland. [1049]

Lol
I am polish but what I suddenly realized what I hate in Poland...

Polish term for it is "wyzej srac niz dupe miec" - you can see it happen everywhere - best car, best house, best dog, best anything. The best example (!) is any of new polish movies - take a look, it's like Poland is bloody heaven, where all people have 1000 sqare meters homes, five cars, dont work at all, or work as journalists, doctors, politicians, judges.

And the real tragedy starts when someone else has something BETTER!

Life / Why are Poles always so miserable? Why do they never smile? [512]

well, why should I walk the street with a grin on my face? I can smile while talking to someone (and I do), I can laugh at a joke or when someone tells me something funny.

When I walk down the street, most times I am thinking about something, not necessary funny.

As someone mentioned here - I've met a lot of english ppl with those fake smiles. It's terrible.

Off-Topic / What's your connection with Poland? Penpals. [554]

Sopot is good, but it has a bit "old" feeling - like Krakow. Plus it's quite expensive.
I rather prefer Gdynia - I was born there, I lived there and I hope to die there (in a distant future hopefully)

Genealogy / THE MEANING AND RESEARCH OF MY POLISH LAST NAME, SURNAME? [4500]

Could someone please tell me what my surname GLOGOWSKI means.

Głogowski in original I think
It's derived from G£ÓG (Crataegus in English?)

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crataegus
or in Polish:
pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Głóg

another meaning can be "Resident of Głogów" - there is such a city in Silesia (SW Poland)
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glogow
