History / Poland - problem for Germany? (historically continual hostility of German state on Poland) [154]

If history tends to repeat itself, like the saying goes, then of course Germans will pose a problem for Poland (they're already ******** about shale gas). This is why Poland needs the USA. Just like west Germany needed the USA after WW2 to help it get back on its feet. But don't forget that Poland used to have one of the largest kingdoms in Europe. Poland will not have another kingdom, but if history repeats itself, then Poland will become a major player in Europe once more. And around the corner will be the scary Germans, desperate for attention.

News / IS POLAND INFLUENTIAL? [16]

I think most Poles want to be like others in western nations. Sad but true. Who looks to Poland for influence??
Discuss.

History / How much Poles trust to France? [93]

I'm Polish and living in Canada. I've met a few Frenchies here right from France. They seemed nice. It appears that the Poles and French have warm ties. Heck, one guy was even a fan of Kieslowski.

Life / Child abuse in Poland [64]

I meant more of the slapping around the kids kind of abuse. We can include verbal abuse here as well. Aren't Poles more "hands on"?

Do Polish parents abuse their kids more than in other western European countries? Is there a problem? Discuss please.

Food / Origin of the pierogi [118]

Let's get some facts straightened out.

A lot of cultures have a "pierogi" type delicacy. Italians have ravioli, Chinks have dumplings (which come fried by the way and pierogi's are not traditionally fried) and Poles and Ukrainians have the pierogi.

In Canada, where I live, pierogi's have been made popular by Poles and Ukrainians when they were coming here a hundred years ago. Toronto has more Polish delicatessens than the Ukrainians and they are readily available for sale here.

In America, the Poles are the biggest by far eastern European group and are attributed to them almost exclusively.

I did some research a while back and found out that pierogi's can be traced to the Polish/Ukrainian lands.

Travel / Visiting Poland - A bit worried about social attitudes and racist inclinations.. [80]

Polish guy in Canada here: I kind of cringe at Polish biatches with dark guys because I don't find dark women attractive so then the dating pool gets smaller and smaller. Is the trade off fair for white men? No.

I believe people will have the least problems in relationships and marriages when they are with a partner from the same/similar culture and religion. This is proven time and time again- especially in multi-culti societies. Poles are smart for being cautious.

Polish girl+dark guy= AIDS for her :)

Travel / My comments about Poland after staying there. [28]

Poland poor? No way. Unfortunately Poles are their own worst enemy and the champions of complaining. I wish this dies out one day. Be positive like Italians.

Poland is not very cold. Keep in mind this is winter time but in Russia and Canada it is muuuch colder. Last weekend Toronto had Arctic weather for a few days. It was -33.

I want to move to Poland. In fact I'll be there for 17 days, from late May to early June.

Jesus - Polish sausages/hams etc are full of preservatives, salt, water.

What on earth makes you think they aren't?

Not the home made stuff :)
Anyways, that Żur sure makes me feel randy sometimes. Not sure what's in that ingredients. lol

Restaurants are crap in Poland, but again thats not the people.

You're British. You have the worst food in the world. Anyone want a potato sandwich? How can you generalize all restaurants in Poland as crap? Polish food is more real than any food in the west. Another thing, "bland", natural food is usually the best for you because it doesn't have preservatives and artificial sweetening, among other things. You can't compare limey bread with Polish bread.

To another post about credit: credit is the biggest scam in the world and should be more regulated. If you're proud of your quality of life in having access to all the credit in the world then you can just dig your own grave. Why do you think the west is in such shambles? PEOPLE JUST DON'T GET IT. Not gonna waste more energy on this.

No need for personal attacks

-Quality of life: 9 Despite what you may hear and all the griping, for the most part everyone has a pretty good quality of life compared to the rest of the world. Mostly everyone has enough to eat and even the lower class homes all have cars, color TVs and computers and video games, etc. "America, where our 'poor' are fat"

They live off credit and pretend they can afford it.

News / "To understand Poland you must understand Frederic Chopin" (Stratfor Friedman) [74]

@Sokrates
Can you give me an example of Poland being f'ucked by Germany in the last 20 years? I mean, progress has been good for Poland. We have to work together. Besides, didn't Poland handle the recession well because they were more self reliant (Poles were encouraged to buy Polish products, as an example)? Germany is very export oriented. They need Poland to do well, it's in their interest. The only country Poland should worry about is Russia since they know nothing about business. Am I wrong people?

News / "To understand Poland you must understand Frederic Chopin" (Stratfor Friedman) [74]

Sometimes I think he talks wishful thinking, seriously.

From what I know about him: He's a Hungarian Jew who immigrated to the USA as a youngster. His mother was from Bratislava and his father from Uzhgorod (Ukraine I think). I have his book, "The Next 100 Years". I think he genuinely wants Central Europe to do well, especially Poland. He believes with American military aid Poland can achieve great things. He believes Russia will become unstable and break up even more. I don't know how realistic this is at the moment. He has analyzed how much Europe has changed since the year 1900 (20 years by 20 years and so on to the year 2000) and promotes the idea of "expect the unexpected". He is definitely a person that thinks outside the box.

I like Friedman actually. He says good things about Poland sometimes but he is a bit of a fear monger. I thought the article was interesting although I don't like how he believes Poland only had a horse cavalry at their disposal during the war. Very simplistic comment from him.

I kind of agree that you can't help a country militarily if it can't even help itself. Poland's gotta nuke up I think eventually. Remember who the neighbors are.

Do you guys think it's true that the Northern European plain will never truly be a place of perpetual peace (as he claims)?

History / POLES NOT KEEN ON REPRODUCING? WHY ARE THERE SO MANY GERMANS AND RUSSIANS? [67]

Serious question. Historically have there always been more Russians and Germans then Poles? It wouldn't be fair to blame wars and such on the population differences because along with Poland, Germany also lost a few million of it's men and women and so has Russia. We can't blame immigration because historically more Germans have been accepted to North America then Poles- not to mention Russians. I'm beginning to think Poles are not too keen on reproducing. Poles like to think themselves as more family oriented than Germans but at the end of the day there is only 38.5 million Poles and around 82 million Germans. Russia stands at 140 million people.

Will the Poles die out eventually?

History / POLAND: EASTERN or CENTRAL European country? [1080]

Merged thread:
POLES BUNCHED TOGETHER AS "EASTERN EUROPEANS"

Why are Poles bunched in together as Eastern Europeans and Russians usually get their own category? When they show a demographic census in Canada for example you see "Russian and/or Eastern European". Historically and statistically there have always been more Poles in Canada than Russians. Poles and Ukrainians are the two biggest Eastern European groups. Are Russians more important? Eastern Europeans are all not the same!

News / SHOULD POLAND HAVE NUKES?? [154]

Though Poland has never shown any interest in having them and opposition within the country would be widespread.

Why do you think there would be widespread opposition? What if Polands existance once again was threatened? Like it or not I think Russia in some ways is Polands biggest enemy even today. I think as Poland gets wealthier they should try and acquire nukes eventually.
