Barney and Atch could learn something from him.

I'm happy and content being Irish I don't however think my country is better than others.
You confuse love of place and country with bollox.

My guess would be that you are attempting to propagate the trees by layering however several things don't seen right. Fruit trees are usually grafted onto a suitable root stock and layering, even air layering, tends to use soil in the vessel to stimulate root growth. I have layered fig trees but never stone fruit. If I was doing that I would like to control the height with either dwarf or medium root stock but it looks like you have the space for full size trees.

Off-Topic / Music Thread [361]

we should remember our roots

If only Led Zep had acknowledged their sources at the time...

As much as I like early led zep they are a bit stale however there is lots of interesting things happening with Irish music at the moment.

Lankum and the side project ØXN each released stonkingly good albums last year. The cover of Scott Walker's Farmer in the city from his (now) cult album Tilt by ØXN is a triumph. Lankum are in demand for soundtrack work all over the world.

Scott Walker turned his back on the pop market and had the integrity to make the music he wanted. The two bands named above have been described as doom folk I think they are true to themselves. The players in the Bothy Band were lambasted for polluting music with the guitar driven rhythm which is now seen as typically folky.

Anyone who saw Shane MacGowan's funeral would have heard Lisa O'Neill's absolute unique and distinctive voice. Again last year, she released a great album repurposing Patrick Kavanagh's words but I think the best tracks are self written.

@johnny reb
Why would you want to cyber stalk anyone?

I was merely pointing out

Yet you started an argument with her leading to a strange threat...

Now please let it go Ms. Atch before this goes from bad to worse.

whatever that is supposed to mean...

When you cyberstalk people dont tell them because people quite rightly tend to take a dim view of such things

Perhaps you are placing more blossom to aid pollination but again something doesn't seem right. Most cultivated fruit trees are self pollinating even if they are diploid or even triploid. I've never known anyone to do that so it must be something else.

I would think the additional blossom was sourced from a place more than a few Km away otherwise there is no point. Its interesting to me as I said I don't know anyone who does this. Do your neighbours have similar trees or is there a market for them?

You still haven't explained why you would cyber stalk someone and then post a veiled threat to them.

I finally got round to reading the linked site its generally interesting but there are some errors in the description of bee behaviour especially their flight height and distance travelled.

The site reveals the answer to your question. I really think placing additional blossom is unnecessary despite what the linked site says. The average distance of travel for honey bees for example is 3 miles (4.5 Km) and they can and do fly well over 50 meters. the logic in the website seems sound but it is unnecessary as the pollinators (not just bees) will do the job for you. having said that it will do no harm.

@pawian
Not really a greenhorn I have been growing a wide variety of fruit and veg for decades and working with bees for about 20 years. Like the hippocratic oath the first lesson is do no harm. Placing additional blossom can help and there is nothing wrong in doing that but I suggest its unnecessary as pollinators will work their magic regardless thats why no one I know does it its unnecessary.

It makes me happy seeing people share their love for horticulture and the riddle/quiz twist you put on the thread makes it all the more interesting. I recall you said you would like to husband honey bees I would encourage you to do so. The native Polish bee is under pressure from commercial bee keepers with their hybridized stock and needs support, the same in Ireland.

I really don't want to explain genetics here but almost all fruit trees need cross pollinated from one or more similar species. You dont live in a barren environment as there is wild blossom available so I still maintain your practice though not harmful is unnecessary. Genetics is not country specific and nor is bee behaviour.

Surely Polar bears eat all the fruit left by the wolves and Bison

full blown real genocide

Not all genocides look the same. Because the genocide perpetrated by the German people on European Jews was different doesnt mean that the genocide that is happening now is not a genocide.

Israel is giving warnings of attacks.

They also gave warning that they would use starvation as a weapon of war...that is a war crime and clearly a tool of genocide.

Yes they dropped leaflets then bombed the places the civilians were expelled to. Expulsion is a war crime and a tool of genocide.

Why is there no demand from the enablers of genocide to investigate mass graves in Gaza.

It was clearly a war crime as was the expulsion of the Prussian germans

@Alien
Yes the plan looked sounded and smelled like another round of ethnic cleansing, Israel has destroyed all universities, most schools and hospitals etc shot fishermen destroyed houses and farms in fact destroyed every means for Palestinian people to exist in Gaza. That is genocide. Egypt quite rightly refused to participate in this genocide.

They didn't close their border to aid the Israelis insist on stopping the aid at the crossings they control. Accepting refugees is aiding ethnic cleansing which was Israels plan. Remember Bibi said he was going to redraw the map.

@Bratwurst Boy
So anyone can redraw the map because its a bit untidy? I know the US and its rules based order has recognised several annexations around the world because it suits the muck that passes as American foreign policy. The EU to its credit has not. I don't understand this argument which is we support Israel and human rights and believe in the rule of law except when we don't.

@Mr Grunwald
Not really sure what you are trying to say.

The exceptionalism claimed by the US and Israel drives a horse and cart through the nonsense of a rules based order they like to pretend they live by. By their actions they have demonstrated that they believe that might is right.

Zionism is an evil ideology that has nothing to do with being Jewish.

How is it moral that some American, Russian or Ukrainian can go and live on the coast but someone born there cannot. Palestinians have a right to resist occupation, ethnic cleansing and genocide.

Palestinian representatives in the PLO accepted the two state solution and as a result Israel backed Hamas, funded further land theft and ethnic cleansing and gave the green light to death squads.

We are now in a position where objecting to the murder of children is described as antisemitism.

Its no coincidence that those supporting the racist and religious fundamentalists that comprise the leaders of Zionism would also have supported the German attempt to eradicate European Jewry.

And Israel and their backers are trying to destroy the Palestinian nation in a vain attempt to wash away their guilt.

@Bratwurst Boy
They have destroyed the Palestinian nation.

Their enablers have demonstrated that they believe might is right. Germany can support those they tried to eradicate in a pathetic attempt to assuage their "guilt", The US will use their puppet in a larger game. Either way both have demonstrated that playing nice gets you nowhere.
