Mowie o ludziach rozsadnych.

I powiedzmy szczerze, dla ludzi takich, jak ja, ktorzy Rosje znaja, a Rosjan wrecz lubia, jest to widzenie trudne do przyjecia.

Kazdy narod ponosi odpowiedzialnosc za swoje panstwo.
A przeciez zarowno Imperium Rosyjskie, jak i CCCP byly formami panstwa Rosjan.
Genetycznie niemieccy Romanowowie byli (moze na pokaz, moze z przekonania) bardziej rosyjscy, niz Wanka z Tambowa.
W imie tej blednie rozumianej rosyjskosci doprowadzili do puczu 1917.

W wyniku tego puczu powstalo panstwo z ktorym identyfikowala sie znaczna czesc Rosjan.
Nie kupuje tezy, iz to Zydzi, Lotysze i cyklisci tworzyli CCCP.

Tych "Zydow" bylo w porywach do 70 milionow, jesli policzymy czlonkow partii i komsomolcow.
Sporo.

Wania zna wspomnienia dziadka z "wyzwalania" Zachodniej Bialorusi i Ukrainy z rak Bialopolakow.

Takie przyklady mozna mnozyc, a nad wszystkim unosi sie duch czterech pancernych i szarika, ktorzy przez lata ksztaltowali swiadomosc historyczna i Jasia, i Wani.

W efekcie obaj nie rozumieja swych uprzedzen - anty-polskokatolickiego matrixu Wani i jasiowego podsmiewania sie z wyzwolicieli z Czerwonej Armii.

History / The great mistakes of Poland's history? [216]

but it is not a bit a disaste

Dear friend the problem is that I know your country.
And maybe better than you do.

You are just saying that you are a pathetic loser incapable of making your own life better.

Maybe I am, maybe not - you are definitely not in position to judge it.
But enlighten me pls how my personal situation refers to the main topic of this thread ?
And even if I don't drive a luxury car how does it change the economic ranking and political creditability of Ukraine ?

Any discussion with you is absolutely counterproductive - as a hatred driven person you are only repeating your favorite ahistoric mantras which are hardly in line with the mainstream of European historical knowledge.

But really ... feel free to believe in Polish plot and stay in your besieged fortress of Halychina !

History / The great mistakes of Poland's history? [216]

Better life washing dishes and working in factories like robots? Even those who graduated from their studies do such work.

You don't need to discuss this issue with me but just ask some Silesian small town boy, third generation lodger of a "familok-slum" in a poor neighbourhood of Siemianowice.

Blue collar job in Poland versus blue collar in the UK but with plasma TV and Canary Islands last minute flight perspective.

The German way of life?

As above - own flat, color tv, Canary Islands last minute and Harz IV if necessary. Still an exotic dream for many people in Poland.

The problem was that the Teutonic Order was not interested in a long term alliance with Poland

My fault - I presented Jasienica's views not precisely enough.
His idea is that Poland should have concentrated its efforts on the Western politics scene and not got involved into any Eastern-Slavonic issue.

History / The great mistakes of Poland's history? [216]

Borrka, what German politicians do you admire?

German politicians don't need my admiration but German votes.
But sure, I can name some personalities I respect.
But remember - I'm quite "hawkish" and conservative in my sympathies both in politics and economy.
So taking in consideration the post-war period and democratic Bundesrepublik only,
what about Kurt Schumacher, Konrad Adenauer, Helmut Kohl and last but not least the GDR-Angie ?
There is some hope for Mr Westerwelle as well.

Many Poles are very patriotic and see the good options around them.

Many Poles are leaving Poland at the same time just looking for the better life.

Your post neatly sums up the Polish ambivalence towards the East

And what are you expecting from a "standard" Pole like me ?
Sure, my way of thinking presents Polish attitude toward history and today's reality.
In addition I know pretty good some European countries, both East/West and the German way of life is what I prefer.
Maybe with less socialism lol.
It's not perfect but still better than US skyrocketing Gini index, French or Italian chaos, Russian Mad Max matrix.
Believe me "luxury car" is just an eristic trick.

Some comments:

First of all it's notmy opinion - so I'm not trying to make you believe it.
However, Jasienica was a prominent Polish historian so it would be wrong to make light of his works.

so why jeopardise that by referring to wealth?

It's not about wealth etc. but more about many sad and long lasting consequences of a single political decision .
It makes me believe that history is more mysticism than science lol.

What we are missing depends on our position.
So it works like that:
The rich nations are missing spirit, the poors don't give a damn about that - all they need are just some greenbacks.
No away around it.
Poles, being just in the middle are missing both.

If you sided with Germany now you would be like Sorbs.

38 millions Sorbs sounds quite good to me LOL.

There was never any alliance as such.

It's your point of view and definitely not mine.
Both Lithuanins and Ukrainians owe Polish Commonwealth their national existence.
Without it there would be no Lithuanians at all today and the population of Ukraine[
would be a part of the happy Orthodox family under Moscow's rule.
Take it for granted.

Besides what don't you like about your mentality?

As a matter of fact I love my mentality both in personal and national aspects lol.
However ... I definitely prefer German life standards, reasonable politicians, good highways, luxury cars to our Polish life of misery and Ukrainian disaster.

With all due respect Mr but: Are you on crack?

With all due respect I'm clean.

History / The great mistakes of Poland's history? [216]

At least it's what Polish "star historian" Pawel Jasienica used to say:

The greatest mistake of us was when our cultural, political and civilizing processes turned to the East and our ancestors gave up the idea of the Latin united Europe .

Yes, it happened after union with the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and had (possibly still has) enormous impact on Polish mentality, our way of thinking and acting - it's why Poles are more like Ukrainians and not like Germans or Czechs.

Well ... personally I enjoy being "semi-Asiatic" but what were our long run-benefits of the Jagellons' Union ?

Let me call a spade a spade.

Siding with Germans (Teutonic Order) against pagan Lithuanian and Orthodox Russins would have been by far more profitable than any aliance with Lithuanians, Ukrainians or Belorussia (whatever it meant 600 years ago).

If not the Union, Poland would be today more like rich Germany or the Netherlands on the contrary to the poor European East.

History / Piłsudski, like Hitler and Stalin (according to some Lithuanians) [144]

Seanus: As for Piłsudski, he shouldn't be uttered in the same breath as Hitler and Stalin.

Portraiting Pilsudski as a monster was an important part of the infamous Soviet propaganda.
Somehow easy to understand - the old marshal was the only one who broke the myth of the invincible Red Army.
Some of the new post-Soviet republics where history books portrait Pilsudski as an enemy of the state, are just following example of the big Russian mommy lol.

In fact he was neither devil nor saint.
He is Polish national hero and has never pretended to act on behave of Ukrainian or Lithuanian irredenta but at least he protected the Baltics and Western Ukraine from becoming Soviet controlled gulags.

History / Piłsudski, like Hitler and Stalin (according to some Lithuanians) [144]

Nathan: You missed my 1920-1939 period, Borrka.

Just my rhetorics.
Prewar human rights regulations were even not "remotely close" to the EU standards so referring to them while talking todays problems does not make too much sense for me.

That's what I meant - I don't try to justify Polish prewar attitude towards Ukrainians.

Nathan: Did you hear any protests of Poles in Ukraine with preventing them to have their TV?

What I hear are rather everyday survival problems on some very low level so how should "Ukrainian" Poles pay their own TV ?
It was Polish state bearing all the expenses of Ukrainian programs in Poland so we could expect some return service from your authorities.

Polish TV (from Poland) in Lviv via satellite, cable or cross-border broadcast is exactly the same what Poland "offers" to our Ukrainian citizens.

Nathan: Somehow 47% were eager to stay there than in independant Lithuania.

When ?

History / Piłsudski, like Hitler and Stalin (according to some Lithuanians) [144]

Nathan: But Lithuanians are angels in their current minority policies as compared to Poles in XVI-XVII centuries

You're not serious. Are you ?
How can you compare "medieval" standards with today
Union's requirements ?

Nathan: (Ukrainians) don't have an opportunity to watch Ukrainian news for 26 minutes a month

And what about Polish minority in Ukraine ?
Maybe I'm wrong but I'm not aware of any Polish language TV program for 300 000 or more Poles still living there.
Just repaying in kind.

Nathan: It seems like somebody had good life in Lithuania under communism regime.

I don't wish my enemy this kind of good life.
It's a pity the situation is still the same or even worse today.

History / Polish Atlantis (pre-war Warsaw, Poland in pictures). [38]

We should always remember Warsaw was destroyed on purpose.
Not because of street fights but with some blind nonsensical madness wasting explosives, fuel and ammo Germans needed dramatically for front.
Street after street, block after block, house after house...

I'm Warsaw born, it's my city so I'm really missing any comment from our German friend BB.

History / What Was Happening in Poland around 1905? [73]

Bolsheviks had russia fully in their grasp by 1905.

Nonsense.
First ww1 proved the czarist Russia unable to survive in her unreformed shape .
But even then Bolsheviks were only one of many options.
Successful because of German support.

(Please not "Berlin in one week" or so....)

Boring.
Are you very proud of what nazi Germany has done to Europeans (including Germans) ?
Everybody believed that given mighty France and British support it could have worked.
Being German I wold rather shut up.
Thanks God I'm not.

Well Kostik... it was Russian communism.
Wasn't it ?
And for Russians shooting their own people with MGs is an object of national devotion, kind of the Holy Grail, traditionally reserved for externally patriotic events like заградотряд if you know what I mean.

Crow, my friend.
Living in your Slavonic Walhalla you are always forgetting one issue:
alternative.

What is Polish (and not Polish only) alternative to the unhuman NATO, Unia, bad Gerries and bad bad Yanks ?

Tell me the secret.
I'm all ears.

PS. But don't say ... oh you know what I mean LOL.

Leberwurst-Boy, reading your posting gives me a strange deja vu feeling.
Your kind of argumentation reminds me of the German "Dresden" movie.

Sure, bombing of Dresden towards the end of ww 2 was bad and probably didn't make too much sense unless we speak of some revenge for Coventry, Warsaw, Minsk.

I can hardly imagine feelings of people in those days.

But German movie makers used this opportunity to rewrite the history, to change the proportions, to relativise the past.
British "beasts" bombing innocent German population of Dresden whose main occupation was protecting RAF pilots and Jews against Gestapo.

This sort of films is slowly but surely becoming the main stream of German (but not only German) ww2 cinema. Just to name "Dresden", "Eine Frau in Berlin", "Gustloff", last but not least Cruise's dream of Stauffenberg ('It's Bound To Be Rubbish' LOL).

PS. BB are you more for Holger Apfel or Juergen Gansel ?

Always the same type of "polemics".
Accusing of ignorance, being brainwashed victims of propaganda ...
No facts as usual or rather twisting the facts.
Actually how do you dare to teach us your lesson given your DDR-background, the most brainwashed part of Comecon ?
Obviously two hours "Wir sind das Volk" revolt is not enough for some mental evolution lol.

For some reasons I'm not going to use sarcasm or irony in this topic.
But generation of my Grandparents is still alive.
Actually it was my Grandfather who told me the story about expulsion from Pommern to GG.
Guess who did it ?
SS, SA or Gestapo ?
Nope.
His German neighbors.

We all (including the BRD public opinion) were fooled by commie propaganda and believed it MUST look better.
