Life / Weather in Poland - some explanations [30]

As a brazilian I do enjoy hot sunny weather but not 365 days per year. When I was a child I used to look forward to going to Argentine to enjoy a bit of crispy temperatures. What I`m afraid of is how long is this winter in Poland. Can I say Poland is 50% cold and 50% hot? I don`t mind cold weather, but a short one :)

I went to university, have a bacharel (that`s how it says in english?) in Tourism, but to be honest I think to do anything with my qualifications I`d need first a veeery good polish. My english is not bad, but far away from being perfect, plus there are so many native english speakers in Poland that I don`t see why a polish person would prefer to learn it with a brazilian person. Am I wrong??? Is there anybody interested in learning portuguese at all?? I don`t think so ;((((

I think if you go to some small villages, it`s a bit dated, but in big cities is as in any other city in Europe. What I can`t stand is the 2 colour hair for girls and really tight pants for boys...Why is that??? Even my husband who is from Poland doesn`t get it!

If I would move or not was something I couldn`t stop thinking about, it was driving me crazy, but after sometime I just thought about the pros and cons of each place and yes, London is a great place to live for a while, so many things you can do, restaurants, concerts to die for, shops, museums, but in few years time if I will definetely decide to have children, I`m sure nice forests, lakes, peace and lower costs of life are the things I will be looking for. I hope I will never regret, anyway we can always come back;) The best of luck to you too.

It`s expensive and besides that I don`t feel like spending 3 hours of my day just to commute to work and come back home. In general life style here is not the best one... I wanna change!

Why people are so ignorant??? Classifying countries as 3º World Country is no longer used when regarding with economic aspects. These terms were used when there was Cold War... just read the previous topics which are explaining pretty clearly .

Polish people should stop moaning and feel offended about english people or whoever says they are Third World Country. Polish people do the same when talking about Latin America, Africa and Asia.

For the so well educated polish people: In Brazil we don`t speak spanish, we don`t have sneaks or crocodiles on streets, people can buy cars as well as TVs and computers...

Everywhere in the world there will be educated people or not, rich people and poor people and I must say Poland is not a '3º World Country' and never will be, however I`ve been to some so called 3º World Contry and they are doing far better than Poland.

Not generalizing, but don`t you (polish people) getting too sensitive with this matter??

Agree!!! I don`t think english people are stupid in general (some are, some aren`t) although they really tend to think that for knowing english they are freed to learn any other language just because it is wide spoken. It`s true they go to Spain and learn just what they really need on daily basis (I have a lot of friends in Spain who told me how english people act towards their language and I`ve seen with my own eyes as well). Even in this forum there are some english and australian people who live in Poland for quite some time and can`t speak polish. To me to learn and know another language goes much further than that. It`s a way to learn about culture, places, etc... Plus, I find rude if you visit some country expecting everyone there should speak english to comunicate with you.

I didn`t go so low... if you knew my language you would know.


It`s the easiest one, that`s why it`s a universal language. Some complex language as polish will never be spoken worlwide because it takes more than a couple of years to learn.

Polonia / Polonia in Uruguay [30]

I`ve been to Uruguay couple of years ago...
It`s cheap, althought not as cheap as Peru. It has a very european feeling there, arquitecture and population aspects are very similar due to imigration in the last century...in the summer is very hot, but winter is rather cold. I`m not so sure how the economy is doing there, but poverty is definetely in smaller number as in other South American countries.
