History / History of Poland in 10 minutes. Really worth seeing! [134]

Thread attached on merging:
Poland's history in 10 minutes.

i thought this was interesting and I am sure some of you will argue with some of it but that is the nature of any country's history. (I really liked the mixed music).

Discuss...

Excuse me if this has been posted before but I have not seen it anywhere.

Travel / Hiking around Zakopane/ Tatra mountains [20]

Hello FosterL3.
I am from Ireland and I live in the mountains in Poland, not as far as Zakopane. There are many many treks, some better than others. The thing I do not like about the main stream treks in Zakopane is that there are far too many people on the path (directly infront and behind you) but do not worry there are plenty of treks.

Is it easy to hike on your own in the mountains, I heard that there are colour coded walks,

Yes, it is very easy. Some routes are dangerous especially at certain times of the year, nameingly winter. Go alone you will be fine. I have no idea about tours.

You will be fine, if there is anythig more I can help you with do not hesitate to ask.

Feedback / The image of Poland according to PolishForums [90]

foreigns who don't give a crap about Poland, maybe?

Ha ha ha ha, yes, exactly.

Probably the majority of members here are British.

I think you are right, so should the question be "the image of Poland according to British"?

The people who annoy me most are the rude ones who have no interest in Poland or in anything else for that matter and when I first joined I thought this was rubbish but I learned who was a "good" poster and not. So now do not bother with some posters and I have found fantastic info about Poland and about people in general. So I think it just takes time.

Life / I'm British in Poland and I think that it's time to go back to the UK! [240]

Whether or not someone lives there is irrelevant to this forum.

Yes but not to this thread.

As most posters comment on many things about different Countries, of which they have never visited.

There is a name for these people too, but as you are a lady I would not be so debase.
Lir are you under the age of 15? just the way you write some things.

It is difficult to have a coherent discussion with people who do not even remotely understand the circumstances and who have miss intemperated some of what has been going on in this thread.

Life / Is it me or do any guys in Poland not have shaved heads? [113]

Weak people find strength from a group culture and the poles are no exception here either.

Ha ha ha ha,
Michal, why do you want to be disliked, I am not suggesting sucking up to people but you do go out of your way to make people dislike you.

Do you feel guilty about something?
Did you come here, how interesting, where were you? did you sulk and moan the whole time?
I do not mind your comments as I said before I think you are a warning to me, about what I could turn into, having lived in a country I hated.

was just thinkin maybe there is hideous sens of that sentence

No, no no I am a very nice bottle of whiskey!
I think it is interesting that the women on this thread like a shaved head and the "problem" seems to be with men, so it only matters if you are gay.

Sorry Del boy, I some times do not know if you are taking the mick or you do not understand.

The T-shirt says "I'm not bald, this is a solar panel for a sex machine"

The use of what was that T-shirt was me just thinking out load trying to remember what the T-shirt said.

I think there is a difference between skinheadz and men with skinheads.
Skinheadz used to be a gang or semi neonazis, or some punks would completely shave their heads.
Poland has a much higher rate of receding hairlines than in Ireland. But Poles do not go grey until very old in life (I started going grey very young).

It is fashion here, isn't there something about if you shave your hair it grows back thicker and stronger? I thought that might be a reason too.

I'm British in Poland and I think that it's time to go back to the UK!

No country is perfect and Poland is a great country and it is changing fast, perhaps not fast enough for some and perhaps even too fast for others.

I find Poland changing the same way Ireland did. I think if you stick it out here you can make a good living but I think more importantly it is the quality of life here that I like.

Do you really think poland would except 2million immigants from one country alone.

I really think it depends on which country the immigrants come from.
I think this is the wrong thread for this conversation.

News / Flood situation worsens in southern Poland [119]

I know, I live on a mountain and last year, during the flood I had to dig a trench/river because it was going directly into the building. But It seems I did a good enough job but anything could happen well we'll see

Life / I'm British in Poland and I think that it's time to go back to the UK! [240]

There is so much money to be made in such a way in Poland;)

Yes Yes and Yes.
But I do not think corruption is the biggest problem here. I think it is because of disorganization. I kinda understand that the rules here change every hour and nobody ever knows which rules or in or out and therefore they ask for All documentation because if they stamp it they are responsible but for feck sake...

There are still lots of diamonds in the rough here and it just takes a good person to make them shine.

Life / I'm British in Poland and I think that it's time to go back to the UK! [240]

The question is, is it getting better at all? Is there light at the end of the tunnel or not? Was it like this 1 year ago, 2 years ago?

Great question, I would say yes and no.
I work in Niepolomice, I am building houses there and I have been to the town hal and met the Major of that town, well I have Never seen anything so nice as the town hall there, it is renovated and looks amazing, they boast that anyone can come in and they will help you "in your own language", the people working there are obviously happy and as a result are happy to help. The major is fantastic, he got voted best major in Poland a couple of months ago, he is easy to approach, helpful and considerate of "his people". so a big YES, he might go for major of Krakow but there seems to be political power struggles there (going a bit off topic?)

Then I must go t Weilcka, to their offices, it looks like a prison, the people are obviously unhappy and therefore unhelpful. I hate going there, I always get annoyed and frustrated.

The big one for me is Weilicka is one of the biggest tourist attractions in Poland, where does the money go? how come the town looks so underdeveloped?

Whilst Niepolomice was one of the poorest towns in Molopolska and with great leadership and a clever plan the place is now one of the richest. There are about 50 factories there including Man trucks, Cokeacola etc...

I could go on and on but I will send you all to sleep

Polonia / Are Polish people required to have tourist visa for Thailand? [32]

Sorry I do not know if there is a Polish community there, try your local Thai embassy or online.
Cambodia was a French colony so there is a big French influence there, snails and some architecture etc...
Yes it is very very cheap. It is also very very poor. Education is practically non existent. It is the most chaotic driving I have seen anywhere and I have been to many countries.

What the khmer rouge did gives a good insight to the Cambodian psyche, what I suppose I mean is that if it is just cheap you are looking for there are less traumatized countries.

But might I just add I enjoyed my time there very much, would I live there? Yes, I would but that is me and it all depends what you want out of life.

Life / I'm British in Poland and I think that it's time to go back to the UK! [240]

Magdalena

I think you are missing the point. I have worked in England and had to go to the office there to get my NI number and it took me 6 months to get a bank account open because of various reasons e.g. my name was not on any utility bill, in Ireland we do not have post codes so the computer system would not accept me and me just getting frustrated. And of course I speak English, so I can fill out the forms and talk to the people in the office. I have to do the same here and I do not expect anything to be in English here in Poland but the sh!t you have to go through here is ridiculous and does not seem to be changing. In London they have (had) those "one stop" places everywhere , where you can find info about most things. Here I go to one office and then to another and then to another then back to the first, although the offices here are not even as close to being as bad as another country in the E.U. it is still rubbish. I really would like to see a TV program hidden camera show about going to offices in excommunist countries, it is so maddening it is funny, provided of course you are watching someone else. It could be like the program "Usterka" that used to be on years ago, except for offices.

P.S. I much prefer living here in Poland than I did living in various parts of England.

A PESEL is vital if u want to apply for residence in the future.

I think you are the sheep to ask, I am an EU citizen, why would I want/need PESEL or residency? I seem to be doing everything I want without the PESEL.

I did start a thread and people said it was like NI, I have a NI number from when I worked in England, needed it for tax purposes, in offices I use my passport number and just to make life easier. And I really do not like being a number, mind numbing spirit crushing cog in the machine.

PESEL and REGON are very useful

???
I do not understand why the PESEL or the REGON numbers are usefull.
I have the REGON number and so far have not need/wanted the PESEL number, sure they ask for it but my passport number suffices.

U have a legal right to be furnished with documents in 2 languages.

Well the official language is "Po"l and then there is its other orientation "Polish", like greenish or twentyish. Of course I am joking and you are right, we are the EU and English id the language. That's a bit strong but I think it needs to be.

Wroclaw Boy

Sorry but that was funny and I do mean that only because it was not me.

I went to the tax office the other week and the girl asked me are "you a foreigner" and I said I was, she asked "have you always been a foreigner", I answered "No, not in my own country".

If you can't laugh you'd cry, I tell you.
One of the best things about Polish Forum is that I do not feel like the exception to every rule, thanks.

Hello dnz

If anyone has any ideas on how I can get this pesal thing or at least rent a house/apartment

I do not understand why you can not get an apartment or a house?. Renting a place is done through private people. Of course it depends, in Krakow the students take all available places and the best time to get a place is mid summer.

Of course I agree with what you are saying but I have lived further east in another "EU" country and it was a million times worse (if you can believe that) so for me coming to Poland was like a breath of fresh air, returning to the "west" and everything was in colour, I had to leave the other county or else I would have gone bananas, I hated it but in fairness to you, you do not sound like you hate it here (excluding the buearocracy).

I have not got a Pesel Number, my passport number always works. Why do you need a PESEL number?

earn the equivalent of 15,000 pln

If you do not mind me asking, what do you work at to get that wage? and are there any jobs going?

The Poles that can change Poland are those in the more recent generations, at the same time its those same Poles that are coming to the UK, Ireland and the US.

For real change, I think, that these people will see what is happening in other countries come back to Poland, expect the same, not get it and change it and probably make a killing (big money) changing it.
