USA, Canada / American people attitude towards Poles in the USA [98]

How were Polish people seen

With two eyes.. hardy har har.. :)

How were Polish people seen in America before the end of Communism?
Did things change much?

in the 60's the focus was more on civil rights, I dont think anyone really was concerned
with new Immigrants coming. in the 70's dancing was a big deal.. so nationality
was not important. and in the 80's People were all about music and big hair
and peace :)

USA, Canada / What do Polish people think of the USA [287]

Anyone can claim anything they want on the internet, and that's fine. But I'll stick to verified sources, which tend to disagree. Thanks just the same, though.

yes, i agree with this.

Elvis might have been or might not have been. really irelevent to the topic
of what Polish people think of the usa.

kinda as he is saying that people in the US tend to be rather racist. and i surely have to agree.

not any different then anywhere else in the world as it exists in every country
that holds a seperate nationality.

History / Poland's January Uprisings of 1863 [76]

There was a body called Senate of Russian Empire. Within it there was a Department of Geroldia ( Департамент Герольдии).

where are these documents now ? :)

First consult Seweryn Uruski if your surnames are before letter R

what about choromanski ? I seen something in the St Petersburg website
on Choromanski but it was spelled horomanski I think

Genealogy / Are Polish birth records available on the Internet? [56]

birth is not avail in the united states unless the person is deceased after so many years
and you have to show proof of death of this person meaning you are next of kin.

birth should stay private as long as the person is alive.

Genealogy / The typical Polish look, or all Eastern Europeans [656]

well its funny how people talk crap about fat, my daughter lives on carbs and her
body cant process fat nor can she excercise to much or she will become really sick
and we spend days in the hospital.. I really get tired of people talking crap about
fat. this could be your family that dies, instead of making fun why not help someone

sickening.. karma will show up on your doorsteps hopefully soon.

just so you know, most of these are metabolic defects, something that happens
because of genetics ...

I am so glad I don teach my family to be this cruel and I dont call other nations fat
skinny or put them down in anyway.. witek some days I think your really nice and
smart, but this thread, your dumb side popped out. I lose so much respect for people
when they are out to hurt others.. god what a shame!

did you ever see a skinny person eating a burger and she/he can eat as much as
they want and never gain a single pound and then you have a person whos metabolic
system isnt working similar and so they store the fat, wow.. did any of this ever occur to anyone? or is it just a lets put down others show???

I am done!

Genealogy / The typical Polish look, or all Eastern Europeans [656]

also Poles are usually slender and not fat like Americans

witek this is what I refer to.. and please dont tell me only america suffers with
obese people. and you werent addressing a problem you were outright making
fun like you always do.. I know theres a Problem of obesity and I work in a hospital
so I see strokes, heart attacks and diabetics daily. but not once will you ever
catch me say one bad thing about someone and call them fat.. thats what you did
and dont try to candy coat it because its in plain writing, and people have problems
whether its obesity or other issues, your going to be one of those one day, you
should hope someone will take the time to care for your sad arse because you
are going to be one of those unappreciative patients that is alone later in life..

people sway away from unpleasentness.

but no need to single out the US... The abundance of refined foods is taking the toll on people, mostly in industrialized countries so far...

thank you Eurola, finally a very smart and thought out post.. no hate filled lies
and or generalizations ..

made tv advert as "ugly and disfiguring" but guess what Glaxostiensmithjohnson have the answer,a medicly formulated cream.

thats commercialism, thats not what the states are about.. thats why we say
the term * you watch to much tv*

its just like when you read a magazine, why do they only put the slim slender
people in ? there is multiple sizes, but the focus is only in one look and so many
people become insecure over commercialism and what is shown to them on how
you should look..

I dont care if people dont like my looks I dont ask them to look at me, nor do I care
I am not here to impress, I would rather spend my time constructively helping others
than to make others feel bad about appearance. but when I hear it or see it,
I am instantly upset.. because children have disfigurements, and features and it makes
me extremely sick and angry to see so many hurt because people dont try to
understand something they do not know about. yet they can laugh.

so thats where I come from..

"Believe me, they are all very 'free'. Just make sure that you are not used, that is all they do. They just use you." Words of advice indeed!

Genealogy / The surname Celinski and resources for Galician roots [17]

[quote=BrettCelinski] Any resources to find out history of the name Celinski and what area that family originated?

brett

a good source to find is the WWI drafts on ancestry.com
or baptismal records ( depending on which city/church) would sometimes
if your lucky.. record the Place of parents birth ( actual place) and not state
just Poland or Poland/russia etc.

what records have you searched in the states so far?

UK, Ireland / Polish immigration in UK [491]

what nationality are you ZEZE? just curious..

Low skilled doesn't mean an idiot,

no it doesnt, and of course there has to be a balance, people willing to do these jobs
although I think these jobs should have a higher pay, without these harder jobs
and harder workers theres no company..

I really don't understand why the minimum wage is so low, as there are bigger corporates who are making good money who should be spreading a bit more of the wealth around

doesnt the govt set the minimum wage?

in my opinion an employer can pay more, but with the govt standards saying how much
is enough, do we think they will change this? no. its the same in the states. and people have to have two working adults to actually own a home and or pay rent

and the younger generations cannot afford to leave home until they are out of college
and even then its rough. but we also changed our way of living to.

Honey, there is no way that guy is going to give you a straight answer :(

you are probably right, he may not even come back at all.

so you see, people living under the poverty line is high in the UK, but of course that's their fault because they were destined to be lazy poor brits!

its the same in the states.. the bad thing about that is even immigrants come over
and want to work and those with education will definately get in to higher payed jobs

we have alot of lazy People to, by choice.. who just love to rely on the govt. which
really doesnt hand it out anymore on that silver platter. they created work programs
for the lazy.. :)

UK, Ireland / How many of your co-workers in the UK are Polish? [30]

How many are Polish and what is the treatment of Polish workers?

would you say good, fair, bad? does everyone work together for fair practice?

didnt clarify this- how many in the uk ..

the uk is full of immigrants, muslim, poles, etc.. same as the states , to which
in my work place, most of my co-workers have some background of polish but
no one is from Poland directly except one girl I know named gosia who came around
10 years ago .

for other nationalities , i say at least 3 percent average and the treatment overall
is exceptional. at least what I have observed.. I am sure there are some bad
incidents in all areas.

UK, Ireland / Polish immigration in UK [491]

the Uk

there should be concerns,, the amount of immigrants exceeds what was thought
and there is housing concerns, jobs concerns.. it isnt like the uk is one huge country
like the united states where people can be asorbed into the economy.. even
Ireland should be a big concern..

the process of immigration was supposed to be slow. I dont think people would
have even minded if it would have happened slower.

I dont blame the polish for wanting better, but they should be feeling the crunch as
well. it cant be good when so many go and the jobs are scarcer then ever due to
overloaded economy!

UK, Ireland / How many of your co-workers in the UK are Polish? [30]

pick on someone in a packing line,

that isnt what I was getting at.. in some instances, minorities are treated differently
( unfortunately) and the person who manages is the one who is/has to deal with
punishment accordingly.

I have seen in my work witnessed the good and the evil and seen people shot down
for not being able to communicate accordingly with the public. to me this is unfair and
I have also witnessed the good come out in several who came together to bring this
to someones attention.. i just wonder how its dealt with in other countries.. to which
I am sure even someone from America would have same experiences with jobs in
Europe and or communication ..

my father was marrying an Irish/English woman (my mother), she threw a hissy fit because he was marrying outside of his ethnic group.

this was not unusual, because I think it was encouraged to stick within their own
but after certain time periods, it was just accepted. there was nothing anyone could
do. I heard same stories.

All the time I was thinking please show me a picture of someone in a happy pose saying cheese for the camera. What can you say though...."Oh yes now thats a good one of uncle Piotr, he looks realy well there. How did he die?"

as akward as it sounds, people do ask.. health information is a asset to the family
because so many things are genetic , and i have asked-without sour looks they tell
me and I offer any new info to them, because its a form of preventative medicine..

it doesnt hurt anyone to be informed and knowlegable of family health issues. and
if you can get info further back , then hang onto it, because its vital and might help
in your care if its a direct family member or close sibling.

One aunt pulled out a box full of photo's and proceded to show them to me explaining to me who the particular relative was.

I suppose at a certain stage in our lives we realize how distant all of our families
have become, and hope one twinkle in the eye, spark of interest for pictures and
family knowledge might be the person you send all of your history to.

so maybe your aunt was looking for that spark , that you might have yawned thru
or just didnt look interested in.. so many of us have done it, I regret that I didnt
start sooner. because all my family is almost gone, except for one aunt/uncle who
seemed to surpass everyone.. I dread that call.. I hope it takes quite a few more
years truthfully.

I wish My parents were here to share all the found memories/interesting facts
and new relatives that I have found over the last 4 years of doing this. :)

I think we all should take a little bit more time to listen and understand :)

the more that go home the better it is for the british

explain yourself lenny..

and what about other immigrant groups ? .....Somalians etc...

yes, this is valid point.

Nigerian folks (nigerian scammers) not all, but they are doing some damage.

are making a bad name for the uk . And its all because of these
scams, most are based in the uk.. and some think the polish are hurting the economy..
