Food / What is your favorite Polish Vodka? [653]

in Krakow, it's quite common for zubrowka + apple juice to be known as 'tatanka', maybe they call it another name in other parts of the country. I think if you asked for 'szarlotka' in Krakow you would get some apple pie!

my favourite 'mix' vodka drinks are Zoladkowa Gorzka + cola or Wisniowska + sprite.

Work / Poland Work Permit / Study Visa Processing Times [191]

I just finally got a work permit after living in Poland for a few years. My advice is to get a lawyer to help you. I only had to visit the various offices a couple of times, the rest of the work was done for me. I just had to provide the right documents and get some of them officially translated. The total cost including the lawyer was about 3000 PLN, but as Bev07 pointed out, the permit is only valid for a year. The application process took about 3 months, but I was collecting docs from my home country long before this.

I should clarify that the price I mentioned (3000zł) was for both a work permit and residence permit, and that the applications were submitted concurrently.

Real Estate / Where to look on the internet for Poland Real Estate [112]

You can also try donimium.pl, the most user friendly Polish RE website I have come across.

You spelled it incorrectly, it is actually dominium.pl.

Our site for property to rent and buy in Krakow: property-krakow

PKG Real Estate in Krakow, Poland.

Polish version of the site: Nieruchomości w Krakowie.

Mamdom is ok, but I have never used it myself. The only advantage is the fact that it has listings in English, but it doesn't look like they are updated too often these days, and there is lots of overpriced properties which have been left on there for a long time. If you are after a good portal with Polish properties, then there are lots of Polish-only portals which are much bigger and better, such as krn, morizon, nportal.

As I recall, many of the native English speakers working in 'property' in Poland use Mamdom - and these people are among the worst when it comes to property prices

I think this should be in the past tense delphiandomine! A few years ago, every man and his dog (and many of them dodgy) were trying to flog Polish property, not to mention Bulgarian/Albanian property etc. The good thing about the correction is that hopefully most of these dodgy operators have been flushed out.

On a related point, when are the mods going to do something about this guy who is spamming the real estate section of Polish forums? I am really sick of it. It's impossible for sane people to have normal discussions about the market!

Personally, I would only consider an offer on gumtree which has photos. If an owner can't be bothered to put some photos (or a price even sometimes), then it's not worth pursuing.
