Poland would not be able to offer an western worker nothing, no access to medical care, unemployment benefits and I'm sure most poles would say "what are you doing here?, "go back to your own country" a western worker would not survive one day in poland.

Why would we say go to your own country? We have in Krakow quite a few people from Wietnam, China...they do quite well.
About west europe the problem is with salary- there are some people but employed by foreign companies (Banks, CU) and paid foreign salary otherwise they wouldn;t be attracted here as Poland has quite high unemployment and lower salary.

You seem lef to have very bad opinion about polish but as I rememebr you were not born in Poland- I can't believe taht after few visits to Poland you knwo so well our mentality.

English men are notoriously mean with money.

Yes, some English women are very independant, but a lot of us still hold old-fashioned values. I have always been independant money-wise but not emotionally.

There is one thing here in England I don't understand so much. Poland is in UE so we are covered by health care as UE members the say appy for people from UE who get ill in Poland.

I moved here four years ago as I marrried English person. I needed visa( paid for it) had interview with british consul in Warsaw. My first visa was only for a year , next was indefinite.

before we joined UE every time I was visiting Poland and coming back here I really hated stupid questions in customs like- Why do you travel on your own? -what is the purpose of this question? Am I muslim wife that I have to travel with my husband?

So I didn't enter this country so straightforward.
I think that lots polish people here boost your economy because they are overskilled for jobs they do but....yes you can't blame us for emigration politic but your government.

I think that England is getting too crowdy , emigration is good but with some boundries.
But again.....it is only government politics that can change.
It makes me feel uncomfortable but I noticed that press( daily mail) have now lots articles about emigration ,polish people here . I know that it is to warn people about Bulgaria and Romania joining UE but i think that it makes unpleasant atmosphere.

About 12 people in one house- I live in quite nice new development in Peterborough and we have our website. I was reading letter from someone quite frightened when he saw 10 young polish men moving to house next to.And ..... he doesn't complain at all they work hard, are quiet he even lent them his tv as they were bored between shifts.

he was only laughing that some of these lads mown lown only in their pants.
But maybe thye feel like in english saying "home is my castle".

For me, I found quite annoying ( get used to it now) lots giggling of some of british people at things which are not funny at all. it is like kind of ????? hiding embarrasement of it is not much to say you can always giggle. But I accept it , it is a part of culture here I guess.

We are not so miserable but I would say that we are not so good at laughing at ourselves.

I quite like it with English people - this sarcastic attitude to everything.
To be honest I must admit that I changed here. I had always sense of humour but I sometimes treated some things, sugjects too seriously. It is changed now. I have learn some distance to things.

I think that there are 2 groups of people cheerful and happy in general and sad, grumpy.

And both groups are in any nationalities.
There was a girl ( luckily left) in my current work who smiled, and laughed but was so grumpy and whingey that I never met somethone like her before.

She moaned non-stop about everything and was so sensitive about herself that I didn't even dare to joke with her. Terrible. I don't rememeber this English saying.... treating someone like egg shell?....

I suppose Polish have different mentality than English, American.... English laugh-off everything it is like defensive reaction. Polish are more serious about things ....

But I was in Krakow about 2 weeks ago and didn't notice so many sad faces. Lots student ready to start ....some tourists......local people.

I think that polish are quite reserved that is the problem. We , smile,laugh are friendly with people that we know. It is not polish custom to smile to strangers on the street( it is maybe English, American) But is it ....French or German ? No really.

I seeme that everone here compare Polish to Anglo-Saxon culture we are slavs so we are different.

I went today to polish mass in our church and when priest says "give each other sign of peace"- some people chake hands some not just move head and say peace with you.

I think that lots poeple are so reserved I noticed as I first give hand out everyone is happy to shake it.

On English mass everyone shake hands, smile, some snuggle even. For me it is little theatrical- Especially English who not much time ago invaded big part of the world spreading ? "peace". Maybe I sound sarcastic now but that is what I think.

(In places like Sweden & Britain - "mature countries" - people accept criticism and think what they can improve about themselves or the state. In Poland you all treat it as a personal attack, which it isn't!). Can't you all just grow up and discuss things maturely without taking it as a personal insult?

I completely don't agree. British feel in general quite superior so they don't bother about citicism they ignore it. But average british person can be quite sensitive and offended by criticism. Not different than any average Polish person.

I wuld say that we Polish are a little sensitive about our country.

And. I think that you are a little obsessed about subjecit. Polish are little reserved but not unhappy.

Did anyone checked how many suicide people commit in different countries ?. Are we on the top? I don't think so.

I would say that in countries like UK, USA very commercial , money orientated, selfish and inhumane people are much more more lonely and unhappy than in Poland .

I am Polish but have been living here for a few years so I try to be objective about any subjects concerning UK, Poland.... probably similar like you. Some people know very little about Poland, our culture....and just say lots of rubbish which is quite annoying.

I don;t mind sensible criticism but not lots of crap.

And as you said some British people are unhappy, lonely not so rich as it can look so it is always nice to look down at other country from Eastern europe it just make they feel better that is all.

Its all down to personal choice who people like....what look they prefer and what turns their head..and what keeps them engaged in conversation...to say one nation is better than another is not exactly inteligent, but a personal choice.
