Law / Can somebody explain ZUS to me? [40]

I wonder how many one-person companies give up because of this. I heard a figure of 50000 a couple of years ago. Someone close to me had a bad couple of months last year and found it very tough to find 800PLN with almost nothing coming in. In the end they suspended their business for a while.

UK, Ireland / Prices of Clothes in Poland and England [35]

Why go to England? My missus picks up new or nearly new clothes from the second hand shops here in Poland. I've got more excellent button-down Ben Sherman shirts than I know what to do with. Plus M&S shirts, a pair of new Clarks shoes that retail at over 60GBP (the previous owner couldn't be bothered to put a plaster on for a few wearings), a beautiful wool suit that fits me like a glove, and a raincoat still with the 70Euro pricetag on. A couple of weeks ago I spent a thousand PLN on a jacket and trousers to wear at a friend's wedding. I don't think we've spent as much at the second hand shops in ten years.

And if they then sign on for benefits, they become a net burden. It doesn't even begin to make sense. I opened a bottle of bubbly when I finally got a staff job at a uni, which means I have to pay just a couple of hundred to keep my one-man-band running, but I feel for all those whose earnings are variable.

Genealogy / I love Asiatic influences in Polish peoples' faces [59]

i've noticed people in Podlasie often have slightly slanted eyes(Tatar influence?) and often are blond at the same time. interesting look.

I haven't noticed that at all, and I've been in Podlasie for fourteen years.

I'll correct myself immediately after check another shamanic behaves :)

You do that. Whatever it is.

Both you and the troll you quote have obviously never been to this part of the world. If you had, you would know that what you are suggesting is nonsense. You simply cannot extrapolate from one family what the inhabitants of a region look like. Białystok has many types of people in terms of appearance, but apart from the staff of the Chinese restaurant, and foreign medical students, I have never seen anyone with slanted eyes. (In fact no-one on Earth has slanted eyes; the so-called Mongolian hood is a shape of eyelid which gives the eye a slanted appearance.)

I am surprised you didn't kibitz how dorked up my paragraph was because the insert function disaster and infer that would be reason to assume my age, education, experiences and exposures to other cultures.

I'm sorry, I don't speak American.

You are correct I have NOT been to Poland.

Obviously.

I have only been in the general area of Europe,

?
My advice is to take a little water with it.

UK, Ireland / Would life in the UK be very hard for a 17 yr old Polish girl? Advice needed please [33]

in poland not achieve anything.

You are very young. You should finish your education before trying to live in another country. Life is very hard in the UK for young unqualified Polish people. You would be able to get a minimum wage job, but most of your pay would go in rent and travel expenses. Be patient and work hard at your studies. I came back from England yesterday and I was, as usual, shocked at how expensive everything was. Think hard before you take a step you might later regret.

Are you suggesting that Oprah Winfrey's experience is typical? Of course you aren't. Her extraordinary success story is one in ten million. I'm all for encouraging young people to reach for the stars, and regularly do so as part of my job, but to suggest that you can become a billionaire just by wanting to flies in the face of reality. Most people work very hard and have very little.

Love / Am I The Only One Who Doesn't Find Polish Women Attractive? [93]

Adoka. I think the answer to your question is clear. Yes, you are the only one who doesn't find Polish women attractive. It might now be a good time to take your good looks, extensive library and huge financial resources to another country.

Law / UK driving license mess in Poland [72]

a poxy Polish one

I what way is a UK licence superior to a Polish one?

an inferior Polish one - which suggests to the car rental agency that the user has learnt to drive from a Polish instructor

You can either drive well enough to pass the test or you can't. Ultimately the instructor is only there to get you through the first few lessons and to comply with the law.

I've never heard of a rental firm refusing to rent a car to a Polish DL holder.

(we will put aside the fact that your UK DL doesn't mean squat in the US).

Except that it can be legally used throughout the USA for up to a year. Apart from that, you are right.

Life / What do Poles really think about cats? [470]

and a nasty-tempered gray.

You'd get along better if you accepted the power dynamic operating between you. Ahinahina is merely asserting her role as the dominant creature. As one of her staff you should understand that if she wants a cuddle, she'll let you know. Otherwise you can busy yourself with preparing tasty meals. cleaning up after her, being a prompt doorman, and giving her the space and respect she deserves. My grey tabby has put considerable effort into training me, and I like to think it has paid off. He never has to wait long when he wants to go out at two-thirty in the morning. It's all just a question of knowing our place.
