Genealogy / Americans of Polish descent. How many of us are on Polish forums? [216]

I am! I am about 1/8 blood and am 5th generation. I think I and other people in my family look very much like the people in Poland, and we have the same values. I wish to reconnect with my Polish side by being on here. I feel so alone in this Southern bible belt.

Genealogy / Typical Polish Eye Color [77]

My sister has light Green eyes. Don't know where she got those from. My daddy had blue eyes, and his momma and daddy had blue eyes. My mom's family all has light brown or blue eyes.

Hard work, belief in a higher power, discussion of politics, traditional family, loyalty etc. I meant more close to like a Polish-American.

And to me my emphasis on being very well groomed and quaffed (I usually never let people see me when I'm not waxed, my teeth aren't whitened, and I'm not wearing eye makeup) is more of an Eastern European cultural thing. It's not very normal for an American, unless they're just following trends, which is not for my area.

You mean Brazilian? ;)(sorry, couldn't resist)

No, eyebrows hehe. I actually don't wax that area anyway, I do something different LOL TMI!

Today I have 1000's of Polish friends (throughout the world) and feel we really need to work together to correct historical inaccuracy.

No one has thousands of friends, if so they're not real friends, just acquaintances. No human can possibly process that many relationships at the same time. Maybe 50-100 at the most for some people.

PolkaTagAlong: I meant more close to like a Polish-American.Good. Don't mix up the two - Polish-Americans have little in common with Poles.

pseudo know-it-all

I don't mean my description is like modern people in Poland today, I mean it's like the traditional core of what it means to be Polish.

It would be very interesting if I found one of the members here to be a distant relative of mine. However, I don't think I could have many blood relatives in actual Poland, if at all, because almost every single young family member of my ancestors emigrated to the USA at some point. The only people left were maybe distant relatives and the old folks. They left at a good time though right before WWII, it's like they were psychic or something (lol jk).

Genealogy / Do I look Polish? (my picture) [375]

Yes. I am somewhat versed in anthropology, and you look like a mixture of Eastern European subraces, primarily East-Baltid. However, your profile shows more of a neo-danubian influence. Besides your slavic genetic makeup, you do remind me of the "Polish look" that I can faintly see in myself and others of Polish descent that have the widely spaced eyes, high forehead, and prominent cheekbones. I would guess you were about 1/4.

You definitely don't look British!!If you hadn't asked that particular question,i would have guessed from your looks you were German.Yeah you could definitely pass for a pole!

He does NOT look German at all. At least not the real stereotype, maybe he could pass for being from that country.

Travel / Collection of dress codes in Poland - what to wear? [96]

Personally, I like skirts better, but jeans or pants are more appropriate for work and school. I like skirts and dresses better, because when I wear one, it's my fun day. I'm kind of unconventional about fashion. I just like what I like, and what looks good on me, I don't necessarily follow the trends.

Genealogy / The typical Polish look, or all Eastern Europeans [656]

I think I definitely have the "slim heart face" with pointy cheekbones that the OP described. It's odd, some men are really into this and some not so much at all. I had a crazy guy lusting after me one time who would always comment on "what beautiful sharp features I had." At the time I thought this was an insult but I discovered that this is definitely a compliment. It can give the face kind of a chaotic look, but these features really emote.

I think on average Polish people tend to be taller and slimmer. Women also tend to be bigger up top (I am proof of this hehe). I know that my body is a rather slim to average type and I'm a tiny bit taller than average (5'6) but most of my body structure is quite robust despite this. I have big knees, thick ankles, and shoulders. I know that my grandmother with Polish influence on my father's side had the thick ankles, not sure about the other traits though. I think she was more of a slender, less robust type.

Is it a typical Polish Slavic thing to have rather course, bushy hair or is it probably a sign of jewish influence? I don't have any genetic Ashkenazi markers but I think it is likely thick hair probably meant they had a small amount of jewish ancestry.

I sympathize with the OP. Junk food makes me get fat easily and if I don't exercise and eat normally I can put on a lot of weight, but I tend to be pretty slim. Some of that stuff with all the saturated fat I can't even digest properly, like Chick-fil-a. It just goes right through my system.

Don't you think this model looks Polish? She has a slight dimpled, uneven chin that is common in Poles. You can still have that chin defect like me and be beautiful! youtube.com/user/LiveRunway

Please don't consider it a 'defect'

I was just calling it that because technically it is even though it seems more like just a trait.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cleft_chin

you look a bit like her:P

Really?! :O Wow, never thought that could be possible. That makes my day! She is considered one of the most beautiful women on earth I think.

I started out with the recessive gene (the jaw assymetry) and then the dominant gene developed into adulthood which presented the fissure. I didn't used to have a fissure at all until I was about 15 or 16 when I was finishing my growth. The model I mentioned had the recessive part but didn't have as much of the dominant part which is more environmenal.
