Food / Polish Christmas cakes? [13]

I'd say cheesecakes are for Easter and any cakes with poppy are for Christmas, but many people would have both kinds for both Christmas and Easter. Whatever. I'll stick to my family's traditions.

Polonius3, just google 'makowiec'. It's the most popular and traditional Christmas cake, I believe.

Life / Polish Christmas Carols - your favorites? [20]

Merged: What's the worst Polish carol?

Bah humbug!
I love Christmas in Poland, but I don't like most of the carols. Mournful or saccharine sweet. Nothing to bellow along to tunelessly at midnight mass!
I particularly dislike Dzisiaj w Betlejem!
Agh!

Really? I think they are pretty good, most of the mare old and have that style of old music, some are newer. What can be annoying though is loads of horrible pop versions, really kitschy - I think that's what ruined them for you. I hate hearing many versions, most pop musicians indeed have problems with performing them so they sound as good as they should.

Try 'Anioł pasterzom mówił'.

Language / Polish post office vocabulary [8]

Usually in such situation in foreign country it's enough to hand addressed letters to the person in the till. They will choose and put the stamps for you and tell you how much to pay. You will most likely be asked if you want "priorytet" it's a fast letter service, the difference in price is very small, but the letters and parcels usually go much quicker, so everybody I know usually take this. Air mail is weighted.

It's harder to buy stuff like stamps, hmm, I don't know how good is your Polish, if it's very bad or non existent, maybe it would be better to have those things written on a piece of paper or just look for an English speaking cashier. Or just buy a sheet of stamps and ask how much it is for a letter to certain place (I think you can also check it online). Stamps for domestic and international letters are the same, just sending abroad is more expensive. I'd say check how much you pay for a letter abroad and take it into account when buying stamps.

Anyway:

stamp - znaczek
letter - list
parcel - paczka
signed for letter - polecony
priority (faster) - priorytet

I'd like to buy stamps for domestic letters - Chciałbym kupić znaczki na listy krajowe.
How much it is for a letter to ... ? - Ile kosztuje wysłanie listu do ...?
I'd like to buy some stamps. - Chciałbym kupić trochę znaczków.

Love / What do Polish girls think about dating Asian guys? [134]

However, there will be a small percentage that will infuse genes into other genepools. Poland has infused a great deal of genes into numerous genepools all over the world.

Gee, people like you creep me out.

If you aren't attracted to foreign or exotic people, you think highly of traditional and ordinary families, fine, but why make pseudoscientific weird theories which have nothing to do with facts?

Do everyone a favour and don't write complete rubbish about genetics, because you obviously don't know a thing about it.

It's like in any country, some girls will be attracted to Asian guys, some won't. I'm a Korean guy who visited Poland recently and I got a looot of attention from girls.

Ehehehe, a lot of Poles believe that all Asians are like 150 cm tall.

Language / How should "Polish" be written? Maybe Polski? [27]

I don't think it's a good name. It sounds and looks weird and horrible, like translated by computer or someone who knows only a few Polish words. Why don't you choose one language or use a double name like 'Polish Passages - Polskie przejścia'?

'Polacy Ppassages' sounds even worse, how do you want to join it, 'Poles Passages' doesn't make sense even in English...?
