News / Polish President Lech Kaczynski and gov officials die in a plane crash in Russia [686]

Would you believe me if i say that i was absolutely sure in tragic destine of Polish president Kaczynski? Would you?

No ... I don't! You're so intelligent in hind sight, aren't you? (I wonder why hindside and hind sight have a similar spelling)

Would you believe me if I said I had a nightmare two nights ago in which a Polish airplane crashed? I hope not ... :S.

A plane that crashes from such a small distance from the ground, cannot be in any way so totally wrecked as Tu-154 was.

Let me explain something about physics to you ...

If you drop a stationary airplane from two meters off the ground, then you can expect the plane to be damaged but not smashed to pieces. I grant you that. But if the aircraft has a horizontal speed of 155 knots and it smacks into a couple of trees, try to guess what you are left with ... ?

Try it yourself if you dont believe me. Do you have a drivers licence? Please, rent a Ferrari somewhere and run it with 178mph (287kmh) into a tree. Then get out and make a picture of the wreckage. Don't forget to send it to me.

Give me strength ... :S

Rubbish they lived in Ghettos

They didn't live in ghettos. They tended to flock together (i.e. in case of the Sefardic Jews who came to Amsterdam from 1593 and settled in the outskirts of the city, creating the "Jodenbuurt"). Like the Turks, Maroccans, Surinams, Arubans and indeed Polish people in the Netherlands do nowadays as well.

you will see that the Dutch have nothing to brag about.

No country has anything to brag about ... neither does Poland. It was a dark period in our history and not one country falling victim to the Nazi regime was better or worse than another.

a huge ghetto for something that you claim didnt exist

So you say that Polish people in the Netherlands live in ghettos as well?

with half a dozen other ghettos in NL

So where were these half a dozen other ghettos then?

Really? Last i checked they lived in ghettos

Not to want to play the wise-ass here, but according to my info Anne Frank for example lived with her family until Juli 1942 on the Merwedeplein, which is part of the Rivierenbuurt and not the Jodenbuurt, proving M-G's point that Jews in the Netherlands were allowed to live everywhere, even after the Nazi-occupation.

What a BS-article! It's laughable!

First of all ... it's 6 years old.

Second ... an Israeli organisation complaining about Maroccan's (i.e. Arabs). We all know how much they are liked, don't we?

When the Dutch (more to the point pro-palestinian organisations) stage a demonstration against the killing of a Sheikh, this "institute" is outraged. Thankfully there is freedom of demonstration in the Netherlands.

And when over 70% of the Dutch, who are historically pro-Israel but yet critical about what Israel does in the region, then this institute is outraged as well.

Come on, Sokrates! How stupid do you think I am, huh? And, since YOU came up with the article, let me quote something for you: "According to the survey, 7% of the Dutch population harbors strong anti-Semitic views". You didn't get that, did you?

Coming up with this has really disqualified you in my eyes. I guessed already that you weren't top in the intellectual department, this has just confirmed it. I'm sorry, you're a joke.

Not again! Is he dead?

No ... he broke his ribs or something and needs to have an operation. Sorry BB ... ;). 1974 will be reversed ... :P.

Sok: it is a long time since I have read posts of someone who is so simple-minded as you. If I would continue your analogy, then it goes something like this:

1. Birds are animals that fly
2. A bat flies
3. A bat is a bird

or

1. Priests have sexually assaulted children
2. Poles are catholics
3. Thus Poles sexually assault children

It sounds stupid? Yes, it does ... but this is the level of your logic.

News / Polish President Lech Kaczynski and gov officials die in a plane crash in Russia [686]

thenews.pl/national/artykul130917_whose-was-the-extra-voice-recorded-o n-smolensk-disaster-black-box.html

"In a new development in the investigation into the Smolensk air disaster, it has been revealed that the black box recorder on the doomed TU-154 recorded five voices in the cockpit minutes before it crashed.

The fifth voice did not belong to any of the four members of the crew who were in the cockpit: the pilot, the second pilot, the navigator and the engineer. It might have belonged to a stewardess or a passenger but the Prosecutor’s Office does not want to reveal whose voice it was."

Can I make a guess here? If it would be the voice of a stewardess, I'm sure the Prosecuter's Office would have no problems at all revealing who it was. But, if the voice belongs to someone "more important", well ...

Yes ... and you seem to remember only one thing from the articles, since this one brain cell of yours isn't able to make connections or actually READ what's in the articles. You are so pathetic, I would almost start collecting money for you.

Sok ... what are you rambling on about Denmark? You are really stupid, aren't you? My God, I wonder why they didn't put you in a straight jacket yet? Please do humanity a favour and don't have children. I don't want humanity to return to the times of Homo Australiensis.

Study / Rumor about racism - will I be fine in Poland as a black International student from Africa? [245]

With the influx of Africans to Netherlands

Might I suggest you refrain from commenting on the immigration situation in the Netherlands, cause obviously you know preciously little about it (but probably you know preciously little about anything anyway - the only thing I generally read from you are simple platitudes) I guess you haven't reached this IQ of 107 yet, but got stuck at 10 (best case scenario).

Polonia / Polish satellite TV abroad [40]

I have read somewhere, that PL-satellite dishes and decoders also work when you are abroad. I.e. you can buy a subscription in Poland, take everything abroad, install it there and it works. Can anyone tell me whether this information is correct, please? And if so, any ideas which company has the best package/deal?

I don't need Sky News, BBC World, BBC1, 2, 3 and 4 cause I have that on DigTV? We don't need "adult" entertainment either ... we have eachother and we do find the time and "will" without "external" incentives ;).

Any experiences with different satellite companies are appreciated. Where can I find info on their "pakiety programowe"?

Thanks for the information.

Polonia / Polish satellite TV abroad [40]

took the equipment to Holland

That's exactly where I want to take it as well ;). So how big was his dish? Is it the standard size you get when purchasing a subscription? What is the standard size, by the way?

So what exactly do you need?

I need Polish TV-channels.

You gotta be quite screwed to need TV... Haven't watched TV in 5 years and feel better than ever!

Please, if you have nothing substantial to add, just belt up will you?!

History / Poles and (Polish) Jews... Victims of war... and beyond [380]

"Depending on a definition of collaboration (and of a Polish citizen, based on ethnicity and minority status), scholars estimate number of "Polish collaborators" at around several thousand in a population of about 35 million (that number is supported by the Israeli War Crimes Commission).[46] The estimate is based primarily on the number of death sentences for treason by the Special Courts of the Polish Underground State. Some estimates are higher, counting in all members of the German minority in Poland and any former Polish citizens declaring their German ethnicity (Volksdeutsche), as well as conscripted members of the Blue Police, low-ranking Polish bureaucrats employed in German occupational administration, and even workers in forced labor camps (ex. Zivilarbeiter and Baudienst)."

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collaboration_with_the_Axis_Powers_during_World_War_II

Ironside: just like you are trying to show that there are "relatively" few collaborators in Poland (in absolute terms one could argue that "several thousand" is quite a lot), M-G is trying to show that in relative terms there were quite a lot of Dutch people who got themselves on the Yad Vashem-list.

Why is it that difficult to accept?

And okay, PL-resistance fighters were shot in the streets, Dutch resistance fighters were shot in jails, the woods or send to labour camps or KZ-lager. In all cases we have the same result, haven't we: they died.

And allow me to disagree with you about a collaborating government as well: there was no Dutch government which collaborated with the Nazis. Like the Polish government in exile, they fled to London.

History / Poles and (Polish) Jews... Victims of war... and beyond [380]

If I was like you guys I would have said that it was because Dutch citizens reported others Dutch citizens en mass unlike Poland!

So what was the task of the Blue Police? Are you absolutely sure that PL-people at that time didn't rat on their Jewish neighbours, maybe because they were scared to death that the Nazis would kill THEIR family? Can you give me a link? I wouldn't be so sure, you know.

All in all, I feel this is just about semantics.

The wife whose husband (resistance fighter) was shot in the street or the wife whose husband was shot in a jail: in these cases, there is no such thing as "I suffered more than you".

Sorry ... now I have to continue working again.

Love / Ten things to remember when you have a Polish girlfriend [79]

1 Her name

That's why I have always called my girlfriends Darling, Sweetheart, Angel ... ;). So even "in the heat of battle" you're sure you don't get it wrong. I don't want to shout out "Ooooo Magda" during my orgasm when in fact my wife is called Anita ... :P.

Great post, MacDuff!

Life / POLISH MYTHS - let's debunk or prove them! [140]

kielbasa is healthier than that "crappy fast food" because it's natural. MYTH.

I had a kielbasa in Swiebodzki in Wroclaw on June 20th. I came down with food poisoning which lasted for 2 weeks. The first 3 days I couldn't even keep water in. The first 12 days I couldn't eat anything... only after 13 days I was able to eat some white rice. I lost 10kg.

Snake venom is also natural, but it doesn't mean it's healthy ... :-S

Drinking vodka is a cure of everything.

"A vodka a day keeps the doctor away" (but one can replace "vodka" with anything really ... :-S).

for somebody who is feeding only with fast foods, natural kielbasa can be a poison ;P

Well ... if I would eat only fast food, I guess you would have a point ... :-S. But I pride myself eating healthily and balanced (with the occasional "sin", of course). I guess I shouldn't have sinned ... . I noticed when eating this thing, that it wasn't completely cooked, but I thought it wouldn't do any harm ... :-S. How wrong I was ... !

No, I'm not in contact with them. But I do know my language. So if someone uses "Remco", "San", "Kievit", "Berends", "Koen" and "Tijmen" I can be pretty sure they are Dutch.

Highly contentious, but I'll give it a try anyway (at the peril of being cursed at):

Fact:
