History / Polish Atlantis (pre-war Warsaw, Poland in pictures). [38]

re "No idea which street is that, the building with the eagles is a corner of the now gone bank"

The bank built in 1912 - 17 as an example of Poland's early Modernist architecture is near Ulicza Sienkiewicza (off Marszalkowska) close'ish to Wedel's patisserie and chocolate shop.

The stone eagles were designed by Zygmunt Otto and from my last visit to Warsaw are still there at 'the bank under the eagles'.

Real Estate / Neighbourhoods in Warsaw - how safe? [23]

Anywhere in Warsaw is safer than living in London for example.

I have never been mugged in Warsaw. I compare that city to my experience working in London when I was once attacked by armed African colonists.

History / Yalta Conference and Poland [78]

The US and UK leaders of the WW2 western allies used the Poles as disposable cannon-fodder to 'soak up lead' so that the Yanks and Brits would have lowered bodybag counts.

It wasnt just Arnhem , but Monte cassino, Falaise , wherever the lousiest combat battle tasks with the highest probability of death were likely they were dumped on any available Poles and the 'reward' was to be 'sold out' later at the Yalta Conference by Roosevelt.

I have always been surprised how the stained glass windows in Bracia Jabłkowscy's Department Store survived the German rape of Warsaw.

Located in central Warsaw at Bracka 25, designed by Franciszel Lilpop and karol Jankowski in 1913, it survived WW2 and was 'nationalised' as the 'Central Department Store' (Centralny Dom Tomarowy) then became a shoe store 'Dom Obuwia'.

The beautiful series of architectural features, the largest 'post secessionist' stained glass window in Warsaw and bas-reliefs by Bartłomeijcyk are worth checking out.

The store has within it several shopping levels, with trendy cafes, bookstores, chic boutiques and music shops.

Real Estate / Neighbourhoods in Warsaw - how safe? [23]

You were attacked by Sir Cecil Rhodes and the British Expeditionary Force? Wow, how old are you?I've never had any street crime problems in Britain, but side streets in Warsaw are best avoided at night.

Nice try 'jonni', deliberately shortening a statement to change the context of a posting from a forum reader and to further your negrophilic agenda ?

Few Africans are in Warsaw compared to the six-figure number in London. Compared to Warsaw neighbourhoods, the African colonies in London such as Brixton are not safe.

Fact; A significant portion of the African colonists in London are armed. The response to the illegally armed segment of the African community colonising London has been the establishment of the Police's "Operation Trident" an attempt to try to control African's violence.

Ever heard of "Operation Trident" 'jonn'i? Somehow I suspect that some would not wish to hear of "Operation Trident" in case it upsets the official dogma that multiculturalism is not an abject failure. stoptheguns.

"Operation Trident" is the response of the English authorities (The Metropolitan Police) to try to curb the murder rampage by Africans colonising London and extensively armed with small arms and items of cutlery.

To enlighten you here are some details>

I can walk in Warsaw without being attacked by Africans but I have found it is the opposite in London.

Go live in Brixton London 'jonni' a colour-packed paradise filled with colonists from Africa awaits you there.

Classifieds / Where to buy Polish Beer wholesale in UK? [153]

There are so many excellent Scots, English and Welsh beers.

It is environmentally damaging ** to ship continental beers to Scotland when there are excellent indigenous brews made nearer to hand.

(carbon footprint issues, Life Cycle Analyses, ISO 14007 etc etc )

Food / Does beer have any "real" expire date? [39]

Beers do have an expiry date.

If the beer has been filtered through a diatomaceous earth pre-coat filter to 'polish' it prior to bottled (and most 'factory beers' are polished with pre-coat filters to take out excess yeast particles), any soluble iron (Fe) leached from the filter-aid promotes the formation of tannins inside the packaged product.

If in a bottle, exposure to sunlight acts to catalyse tannin formation in beer - one reason why traditional tasty high yeast content beers have to be put in coloured/dark glass bottles. In contrast the factory lager beers have been polished to such an extent (ie filtered to remove yeasts and other particulates almost to the extent that the beer flavour is removed), that lager beers take longer to expire.

In non-technical terms the beer will taste 'off' if expired due to the ageing of the yeasts and soluble iron-induced oxidation and promotion of tannins. To keep packaged beers fresher for longer - keep them cold and in the dark !
