Merged:Whats the best Foreigner Friendly Bank in Poland

I just need other Expats' experiences my Polish is not yet that Good Ja ucze sie codziennie.
What is the best Bank u recomend i should open an account with some one said Millenium Bank. How good are they and do they have websites and helplines in English? ( Not that they should for some foreigners like us. Im still learning Polish but im eager to improve).

Im told PKO BP have a free transfere agreement to UK with NatWest Unfortunately i have a Lloyds Tsb Account will they allow me to transfere me money into that account or they will charge me for it??

Thanks for the Advice lads n lassies this is me experience so far. Went into PKO BP with me wife we live in a LOVELY SMALL town the Rude lady at the Enquiries says PKO only accepts Foreigners with Permanent Residence in Polska.I only have a residence card 'Karta Pobytu' so it means i can only open an account with them after 5yrs of being resident in the country.

Utter bo****ks i thought unfortunately moja po polsku nie dobra. And the wife's not the argumentative type so we just stream out to the next Bank WBK who are Irish owned and alas no problem with Karta Pobytu at well im more than welcome, same as the next Millenium Bank and Kredit Bank.

So my question is. Is there something wrong with PKO BP or should i call their Customer Care Manager to ask about this coz i dont think its real that a foreigner can open an Account with them only after 5yrs of being resident in the country.....

So i'm a bit confused and would like some explanation. Im not starting this thread to criticise the education system in Polska just for the sake of criticising but im actually looking for answers that would help in deciding our kids' education.

MÓJA ŻONA JEST POLAK but she is quite bitter about the way things are run here i seem to be more optimistic than her as regards the future of this country. She is a Pani Magister but to be honest she says its only on paper as she does'nt see the benefit of having a MAGISTER. So i did a bit of research from some colleagues.I found out that there is someone who graduated from the university with a MAGISTER IN ENGINEERING after 5years of study but had never done any practical work during his studies. In fact when he started work he was offered a job with a starting minimum wage. And i mean the Polish minimum wage for someone whose got a MAGISTER. I thought "my foot" minimum wage for an Engineer thats a joke.

Same applies to someone who was enrolling in an MBA course being offered by a private University in Wrocław.The guy has got a Magister in Business Administration but the University does not recognise the equivalance.

So my question is, Is the MAGISTER DEGREE here in Polska the same as a MASTERS DEGREE IN THE UK??

Your Knowledge and Experienes required please.

What i really wanted also was to hear from people who think that a polish magister say in INŻYNIER is more theoretical than practical considering what my colleague told me about his studies.I dont know how its done in the Polish Universities but engineering to me is more practical than theoretical.

Considering the improvements we have seen in some of the Polish Universities and the cost of studies, yes we are actually thinking of having our kids studying here but of cause that will depend on what they are going to be studying. I cant have my child studying to be an engineer through books and not having the paractical work experience after 5years. I would never forgive myself for that. I'm not a very intelligent block but im a very practical and sensible person.

Is there anyone who holds a MAGISTER in Inżynier who can give us his or her experience?

which means, that for example if someone is Magister Inż. in construction, specializing in land buildings, then before he/she could even dream about making even a small design in their name, he/she has to gain few years of experience in real life usually as a helper of experienced engineer who has all entitlements and most importantly all stamps

In high school (secondary school) i was doing practical Subjects like Metalwork, Woodwork and Technical and Engineering drawing. In each subject we had projects to be done every semester and once every year we went on trips to different companies so as to familiarise ourselves with the practical work itself.Put it simply i knew what a calliper was and also how to use a Lathe by the time i was 15. I could even draw the three elevations of an object and do a simple plan of a house.I'm not bragging and neither do i have anything against the Polish Engineers. But if my child is to go to Uni and Graduate with a Magister in say Construction Engineering after 5years and not be able to interpret the plan of a building then its not worth the 5years. I know as an engineer u will need a few more years to be able to work alone or to attain the licence just like a practising licence in say Medicine or Law but without these basics makes u wonder what the hell they are teaching kids in those Universities.

Could you guys help me with the types and brand names of the flour available in Polish supermaakets. I've heard there is a different way of naming it here. So here goes i need the name(Brand names welcome) or type of the following-:

Plain
Self Raising

Language / Polish verbs are confusing/I get many results when I look them up in an online dictionary [54]

I think this comes down to the fact that English is not Related to Polish in any way they come from different families. The Germanic and Western Slavic Languages.I learnt from Polish speakers and discovered that the vocabulary is quite limited that one word in Polish might have many different meanings in english. However it's also important to know what the word is being used for, skakać generally means to jump but to leap (as a verb) in english meaning to jump either high or a long way is still considered as to jump in polish although sometimes but (i guess not all the time) u can use przeskakiwać if you want to specify though, but to many polish people it's still to jump.

Work / The level of English of Polish teachers of English. What do you think of it? [101]

In everything i've read on this topic previously and currently it all just boils down to the fact that there is no Magic formula to learning a second language.The most important thing from a student of a foreign language(in disregard of what the language is) is their INPUT and secondly DISCIPLINE. No matter how good or bad you're as a teacher if that is lacking from the Students it defeats the whole purpose of learning a foreign language in the first place. Then on the other hand you have very good teachers both Polish and Foreigners in Public Schools who are being labeled as bad teachers because of the flaws in the teaching methods they're forced to adopt. Public Schools only have time to teach children how to pass the foreign languages (paper qualification) and not how to use it to communicate effectively( coz that is considered to be a luxury the government can't afford). That explains why most of the teachers are taking up tutoring after school to compensate for poor salaries and in the process to teach their students better ways of learning not only foreign languages but other school subjects as well.

Considering the chain of events that unfolded on that fateful day one begins to wonder if this is just a blame game.The pilots were at fault so the report says but hold your horses the Russians were also at fault for giving wrong information to the Pilots who were trying to land the plane in bad weather conditions on an ill equipped airport (or a military airport). How about this way, maybe Kaczyński should have never put pressure on the Pilots to land in such bad conditions in the first place because i don't see why it's so difficult for the government to admit this while many people in the country know it was his fault. (You can ask the Pilot who flew him to Georgia) Is it very difficult to admit that? I'm sure people are tired of this blame game it's time they should just put it to rest and for once accept responsibility...

You've just shot yourself in the foot here Delphy as head of the institution and putting all those important dignitaries on that plane the buck stops with him. If the Pilots had said no to his command like the one in Georgia i don't think we'd even be discussing about this. You've been here long enough to know the kind of person he was. I wonder what the families of the other people who perished in this disaster have to say about this. I've always been told you never lose anything by admitting when you're wrong, thats what the government should have done and apologised to the bereaved families rather than to look for blame....

I don't normally argue with people online but Delphy u stand to be corrected on this mate. Check your facts the Polish Presidency is not entirely ceremonial. Why do u think Kaczyński and Tusk were always at loggerheads (and please don't bring in the Pis and Po jaggorn). I agree with you on the Minister of Defence being the head of the army (thats why he has stepped down) but the President's role in Poland's not entirely ceremonial....
