History / What do Poles think about Turks? [761]

i have had contact with turks

you had contact with a select few.. and if ya ask me.. alot of Men
from any country, just name it.. like to drink and find themselfs..

if you were to go to a country ( theirs) of course. and they had a custom
which they *example* take a shot glass and put it on their nose and light
it on fire.. and it was something they did as say initiation into some type
of manhood thing.. then yes.. I could find agreement in your post.

but.. ya only ran across a few .. even I cannot make comments on whats
customary or not. because really I dont know. but. like i said. what I know
is that they did jump in and help poland.. thats deserving of respect in my eyes.

hmmm.... dont think a man looks like and behaves like others....

I can agree with this to a point..

Tell us how Turkish feel about Polish :)

actually how do they feel about other countries..

I know it isnt customary to put a shot glass on your nose and light it on fire
that was a Example.. just to prove a point.. but is there something similar
to what King says about men * finding themselfs* ?

History / What do Poles think about Turks? [761]

you cant blame all muslims for a few extremists.

oh king, why, why must you make me repeat..

Lets leave the regular People out of it.

didnt you read that? I said govt..

re-read.

i work/liase with muslims and the turks/lebanese are not seen in a very spiritual light.

He asked you what you think,, is that your answer?
or are you answering for the whole muslim nation?

your answer is pretty general too..

What do you think about Turks?

History / What do Poles think about Turks? [761]

other muslim countries are not very respected either.. and they been at war
since war became a word.. centuries..

Least the turks helped Poland when help was needed..

the way I see it.. who cares if other muslim countries dont respect you. it isnt like
other muslim countries respect a whole lot to begin with unless its in their own
territory .. ( speaking of govt ) and leaders.. etc.

Lets leave the regular People out of it.

Life / Do you think that Polish people are rude? [951]

Giving up a seat on the bus might be the only gift they received in a long time!

I was out shoppin last friday ,and a lady in a rascal who had hard time getting up just out of the blue stopped me as I was shopping and said young lady can you get me two boxes of cereal, if I get up, I cant get back on this very well..

I said sure,, no problem :) thus my good deed for the day.. even though I became cranky waiting in a long line to pay for my groceries..so I was the cranky pants that day,, but with good reasons.. it was hot, I hadnt been home in hours. and its my female right!!!

so to be honest.. we all have a bit of rude and cranky pants living inside of us.. it just depends on the day /and or mood your in and how much sleep deprivation too :))

and dont lie and tell me that NONE of you have even had a cranky pants day cause your nose will grow as long as the vistula river and then some!

UK, Ireland / Warning to British people visiting Poland!! Don't get drunk and smash the place up! [447]

I believe Poland is being used up at the moment and is losing its identity.

how.. nothing can take polands identity away lef.. even if they put ten new stores
up. poland will always be poland..

I can see your point about certain things, but poland needs to grow, she is behind
in alot of things thats why her economy is so bad.. thats why people left to work
in better jobs.. she needs a face lift.. do you really think people will let go
of their culture.. stop going to church and teaching values?

do you really think people will let go
of their culture.. stop

and to add to this, even in America the Polish culture is strong, chicago being
one of the most populated areas.. they still wear folk dress and dances and
food and fun and its not going anywhere lef, especially in the strongest place its
originated from..

UK, Ireland / Warning to British people visiting Poland!! Don't get drunk and smash the place up! [447]

the point I'm making is that why don't Polish people be more loyal and understanding of the concerns of the Polish people!

you were trying to make a mod look bad.. daffy is not a bad person and was
picked because he is so sensible..

I am loyal to polish. I have no doubts about my loyality, but I cant say that
bad things dont happen, they do, for everyone.

lol and lol, sorry to disappoint you but I'm a pure breed Pole,

not dissapointing,, but glad you got a chuckle out of it..

Life / Do you think that Polish people are rude? [951]

"How are You?" is nice. But after 10 times it's isn't. It's a waste of breath. It's like telling Your love "I love You" 150 times a day. It's a stupid pattern for people who have no conception for individual opener. It's not even a question, because most of times You really do not care how the man You're talking with care.

when i say this phrase, I mean it.. I work in a hospital where I deal with 12 patients
a night, and some of them have pain going on, some have family issues. to say
how are you or how are you feeling is being respectful towards people.. and it gives
then oppertunity to open up and tell you so that maybe you can help.

I agree some might take it to extreme, if its because they dont know any better
its not for you to call this phrase stupid when its opening up a conversation which
someone might want the ice broken.. maybe they have things they might want to
talk about but cant open up or dont know how to open this conversation because
they feel silly!

why would someone even question this?

if you ask, how are you, the person responds horrible, I cant sleep I cant eat etc etc
would you say, wow, sorry I asked, or would you be a friend to this person whom
you dont know and tell them some advice, perhaps give them a boost, maybe
they are depressed..

if everyone thought that way, what would this world be like, would we walk by
strangers in need and never help??

maybe I am being over protective.. but you have to see things more then one way
otherwise your whole life you will be annoyed at silly things that really to me is
a waste of time. :)

and also I think you were more annoyed at the American then the phrase..
thats what you should think about too.. this could be you in a strange country

this is called 'age before beauty' & 'respect your elders' even when they are
difficult...some day you will be old, and somebody younger may have to wipe your rear end for you!

I give this post a A +

so true.. and we should be letting older folks go first.. no matter what
nationality they are.. standing in a long line might be hard on them for one..
getting up from a seat way in the back might be extra hard because they cant
get up as fast.. and everything hurts..

and did anyone even think that someone might be cranky because of this??
if every bone in you body ached, and you had to travel to the store cause
your alone , try walking a few feet with shoes that not even comfortable and
or your hands are crippled up and aching so carrying heavy items also hurts

they deserve to be cranky!! they been thru it all and then some!!

Life / Do you think that Polish people are rude? [951]

The fact that the neighbours believe they can dismantle your property and park on your land with impunity but have a fit if your cat walks through their garden would seem to suggest theres is no cultural misunderstanding here. The neighbours are just plain rude and need to be told what is and isnt acceptable to you otherwise they will keep taking the p1ss.

first of all, when a fence is put up, its both sides who pay for it.. least that is how
it is here, the property line is in the middle, so therefore both parties have to pay
for it, so it is both sides fence..so yes, there could be a misunderstanding on
who it belongs too. if they actually put the fence up and payed for the whole
thing then yes she has a right to be upset, why isnt she asking what they are doing?

why come on a polish forum asking people if this is a trait of polish people? did she
not have enough common sense to walk over and just ask???

then she complains again about parking over the driveway, well, first of all
we are hearing only her side, maybe she did something to p*zz them off so
they are repaying the favor? now she is at a loss for words so she runs to the
intranet to ask why why why?? comon, if you dont have enough guts to walk
over and say, excuse me, My name is so and so, I live next door, I am your new
neighbor and etc etc etc.. make small talk , bring up the fact that the car is over
the driveway, maybe they only did if for a few mins and she's just being
to over-reacting.. we only are hearing one side!

and for me, I am not convinced that they are as rude as she says,, that can go
both ways..

what I find really akward is that, she says they took down the fence, so why didnt
she call the police? isnt that destruction of property ? so therefore,, the fence
was probably there before and put up a long time ago by the previous owners
and so it was both parties.. yes they should have notified her, but seeing that
they are new, they probably dont know the homeowners policys yet..

isnt that different then polands?

Life / Do you think that Polish people are rude? [951]

well it sounds like they just want to justify their inner thoughts and have a good
reason to be hateful towards their neighbors by asking if this is a common trait
among polish people..

anyone can be rude,, especially if you rub emm the wrong way.

but i agree with you, if she was so worried about it, she would have come back
to check and see who posted and make or form her own opinion by it, but it
sounds like she already has formed a opinion of her neighbors.. thats just sad..

They haven't even had the politeness to reply to the answers people on the forum have given them :(

maybe she is outside guarding her driveway :)

chuckle chuckle snort snort :)) LOL sorry had to say that..

go ahead daisy say it.. Patrycja You are bad!!!

think Patrycja is right - trying a little kindness, such as friendly introducing oneself, etc., seems like a good idea. Some foreign people may appear unfriendly because they feel unsure whether their new milieu is welcoming and friendly. Right on the money, I'd say, Patrycja.

* does double take at Puzzy*!!!

Thanks , that was very nice of you to say..

Life / Do you think that Polish people are rude? [951]

We have some new neighbours, a polish couple and so far have found them being a bit inconsiderate and rude.

considering all the possible things that could have happened, word of mouth
that they will not be accepted so easy might be the reasons why,, media
all the polish who already came and experienced some bad things, yes, if they
seem to be a little rude, maybe they have good reason..

what I would do , first and formost is maybe make a nice cookie plate, or something
to that nature and introduce yourselfs and welcome them into the neighborhood.

of course they will feel uncomfortable moving to a new country, and maybe they
dont know they are doing something that makes you upset.. communication works
:) really it does :)))

if they still are doing it, then you would have a good reason to accuse your neighbors
not the whole polish nation of being rude..

but I would try a little kindness first, see what happens :)

His presence on this board is an offence to us Poles.

puzzy, puzzy puzzy..

are you now turnin two faced? you offer beer and then when another strong
voice pops in for how long is a good question, you turn your back on brat??

The past has to be left in the past.. the scars need to heel. theres nothing wrong
with learning about it, theres nothing wrong with feeling about it, but continous
blame on those generations now is wrong.. very wrong.. none of us were there.

we all only learned about it. the truth is, yes I hurt , and everytime I see movies
about it, or documentarys about it, it makes me sad to know this happened in
a civilized world. my whole family is from poland, and I often wondered if any had
died during that time. I dont know if any others had perished. only one cousin
told us her story.. and her experience was good with the german family. and there
was so many others.. untold, because why? because the focus is always on the bad
of it,, not the hero stories , the stories of those who died risking their lives to save
so many.. its all there in the holocaust site.. heros forgotten. and theres many other
sites that can be googled.. When I came to learn about poland I came to learn
about my ancestors beautiful country..

the focus is always on the aushwitz death camp.. alot of people I run into here
say, oh yes we visited the camps.. thats not what polands about.. death camps!!

poland needs to get out of this death camp and show people how it really is..
culture, beauty, great food, wonderful people..

if I ever come to poland, it wont be about the death camps. I will be seeing the
real Poland that has existed longer ....

Genealogy / Kolasa surname [6]

where are you Kolasa's from? which town?

sorry , didn't clarify myself very well, I mean from Poland?

I have a Roch Kolasa.. cousin of my great uncles, so I would assume hes married
to their sister, but it could be the other way around and no relation at all, at this
point, I have very little on Kolasa, only immigration record. and census where he is
living with my great uncles and another cousin..

Genealogy / What are common Polish character traits? [417]

introduce yourself, and tell me about yourself and character.

Well, I will try to help out.

My name is patricia.

my Parents are all polish. both deceased, I can tell you from experience, some things
were passed down, some not, but one thing that sticks heavy is the food, always
alot of it, and plenty to feed a army,. and hospitality to family and friends, my
Friends loved coming to my house, they would say, your mom is the best cook and
she would feed everyone. and from what I understand, my sister telling me, our
grandmothers, both sides, both loved to share their meals, and the famous
saying was " come in, have you ate yet?" dont know what that is in polish how to
type it, but that was how both grandmothers were. and there is also another thread
on here that says Polish mothers do overdress their children, its true, we do, I do
but its easier to take clothing off to cool down then to not have enough clothing
to stay warm with once the temp changes and its freezing out.. :)
