Language / Polish from Russian [14]

And thank you for not killing me for being Russian.

If you're anti-Putin that's enough for me :) And if you're interested in Poland and Polish culture then it's even better :))) I've come across some Russians who are wonderful people :)

Is 16 to old to learn Polish?

No, definitely not. I started learning English seriously only at highschool, when I was 15/16 years old. And it looks like you have a knack for learning languages :)

Do you know roughly how long it will take to become fluent?

I don't know, it depends how much time and effort you'll invest in learning. My guess is that, considering that you know Ukrainian already, if you study on regular basis then you should have some fairly decent grasp of the language after a year maybe? But once you have some Polish language basics from a language course I think that to become fluent it's important to immerse yourself in the language somehow - by watching Polish films, TV series, reading stuff in Polish and you could try to interact with Polish people on the internet, for example.

There are YouTube videos where people teach Polish, if not in Russian, then in Ukrainian. Ukrainians living in Poland also have YouTube channels in which they talk about studying Polish language, reality, culture, etc.

Here are some Polish basics lessons on YouTube in Russian:

youtu.be/vuHBND0dqVM

youtu.be/VybjxBd_d3Q

I found a video of that guy from the first link giving advice on how to learn Polish fast (at first he talks a bit in Polish, but the rest of the video is in Russian):

youtu.be/MCM7b9aiQRI

Btw, I thought that this guy is Polish :O But he's from Belarus :O Wow, his Polish is perfect :O And he has no accent!

Btw, I forgot to add that if you're anti-Putin then you have nothing to worry about as far as Polish people in general are concerned. They will love you :))) Unless you're some kind of Stalin-loving communist, of course ;P

Off-Topic / Eurovision - Today I will be ashamed to be Polish [580]

@Crnogorac3, it isn't any "exchange", people of Europe simply have shown that their hearts are with Ukraine.

- Lost 75% of GDP in one year

45%
And Russia is doing that to Ukraine.

Off-Topic / Eurovision - Today I will be ashamed to be Polish [580]

That means that Russia won 50%.

Nope. Those were Ukrainian musicians, singing in Ukrainian and incorporating beautiful Ukrainian folklore into the song and costumes and they were respresenting Ukraine.

Because 50% of today's Ukraine will be Russia in a year.

No, it won't be.

..and Germany will get 12 points from everybody! 馃

;D
BB, maybe your time will come - look at the UK! :D

Abit sad for the "Space Man" though....in every other contest the UK would have won with that....

I think it depends on the taste, tbh, that song wasn't my favourite... But he was good, I agree :)

I actually feel sorry for Ukrainians

Members of Kalush Orchestra looked very happy :)

We got points....whew....馃槄

From the public! :) You got more points from people than a few other songs, as far as I remember, so congrats! 馃憦

Slava Uktaini!

That was a huge vote from the public! :O :D

And congrats to the UK for the second place! :D 馃憦

Off-Topic / Eurovision - Today I will be ashamed to be Polish [580]

....I don't dare....

BB ;D

My favourites are:

1. Ukraine
2. Poland (obviously ;D)
3. The Netherlands
4. Armenia
5. Portugal
6. Moldova (because it was funny, fun and catchy xD)
7. Germany (would be higher, if the singer had better voice)

The rest was either bad, not sang well enough, not my thing or not memorable enough for me personally, I guess.

didn't mind the Belgian singer in either sense and

The song was good and well sang.

I liked the UK entry...

The song was nice and he has a very good voice, but the look was as if from a different time - not my thing in this respect :)

Guys, are you watching? French song was bad ;O (or maybe that's just not my thing) So far I only liked the Armenian (cool idea with the scenography :)) and Portuguese entry.

@BB, I've just watched the German entry on YouTube and it's a nice song! Maybe the singer's voice isn't very impressive, but he can sing and that's a good, normal song, so you have nothing to be embarrassed about :))

Interesting that Australia is now in Europe.

Now imagine that it would be actually the case - I mean, Australia could swap places with Russia... Russia would be far away with no neighbours to invade lol And we would have a cool neighbour with koalas and kangaroos... 馃 The only problem would be the rest of the things living there that want to kill you lol

I haven't watched any of the semifinals, I only watched Poland and Ukraine on YouTube. I like both entries a lot. Ukrainian song is great, cool, original, funky and fun, but at the same time beautiful thanks to that ethnic, traditional vibe and the touching topic. Btw, I've noticed that people really dig that flute, so, in case anyone wondered what it is:

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telenka

Poland's entry is great too, Krystian Ochman has an amazing voice :O And no wonder - he's grandpa is an opera singer! And I like the song, I can't believe that we've sent something that good to Eurovision xD I think this is the best Polish entry that I've personally heard since Edyta G贸rniak! Nice! 馃憦

And here's both Kalush Orchestra and Ochman performing together the Ukrainian Eurovision entry with Ochman singing in Ukrainian :) (he's the one partly dressed in white):

Po polsku / Polska miedzy Niemcami i Rosja. Zalety i wady. [512]

Ciekawe czy Polska bedzie musiala zatrzymac i oskarzyc ta ukrainska dziennikarke ktora to zrobila?

Mam nadziej臋, 偶e nie. Moim zdaniem to by艂oby okrutne. Jemu nic si臋 nie sta艂o - to by艂a tylko sztuczna krew. A on i jego mocodawcy maj膮 prawdziw膮 ludzk膮 krew na r臋kach.

Rosyjskiego ambasadora w og贸le nie powinno by膰 ju偶 w Polsce. Nie wiem co on jeszcze tu robi. Tzn. wiem - szpieguje i powtarza kremlowskie k艂amstwa. Ale czemu polskie w艂adze na to pozwalaj膮? Polskich dyplomat贸w te偶 ju偶 nie powinno by膰 w Rosji, imho.

Life / Will Poland ever be multicultural like Sweden, Germany or France? [283]

@Strzelec35, there are nationalists and xenophobes in every country plus Poland and Ukraine don't have an easy history, so there are going to be some frictions. But there are also a lot of Russian trolls active on Polish social media. Some set up fake accounts and pose as Poles and some even hack and take over accounts of real Polish people in order to spread Russian propaganda and cause hostility between Poles and Ukrainians. I found such hacked account myself some time ago on Facebook.

an older article on Warsaw and Poland i think it had to do with Ukrainian flags outlawed on public transportation

I've already explained this issue in this post:

why are these ignorant and stupid polish people so afraid of ukrainian flage being raised in poland that even the mayor of warsaw outlawed them

Warsaw mayor didn't outlaw Ukrainian flags lol Ukrainian flags simply won't be displayed on public buses by the city on everyday basis anymore, that's all.

Cats I hate.

How can you hate such cute furr balls?? :)

Hmm, you've been accused of hate crime against cats! Paws up! You are under purrest! ;):

Genealogy / Need some feedback direction on names/locations! Makaruk, Savchuk, Lenz, Fenske / Cherdia, Drazna [13]

Is Kerel a name of any sort anywhere or to confirm just Kiril poorly spelt?

I think it's most likely that it's the name "Kiril" spelt wrong:

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kiril

Any speculation of his parents names Spelt Demetry

It's simply "Dmitry" spelt wrong:

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dmitry

and Feodosia

At first I thought it's misspelt "Theodosia", but I googled "Feodosia" and it turned out it's a name of a port and resort in Crimea:

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feodosia

Considering that your relatives are Ukrainian, I think there may be some likelihood that they wanted to be original and named her after that town (because their family came from there, for example).

In Polish this town is called "Teodozja":

pl.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teodozja_(miasto)

Also, "Feodosia" is listed as "other names" in Wikipedia note about the name "Theodosia":

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theodosia_(given_name)

As for Savchuk - it's a common Ukrainian surname:

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Savchuk

In Polish it's spelled "Sawczuk":

pl.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katarzyna_Sawczuk

When you google it there are people with surnames like "Savchun" or Polish "Sa艅czuk", but "Savchuk" is the most common, it seems.

Genealogy / Trouble pinpointing for certain the following surnames [9]

@Pleuvoir, check out this thread:

https://polishforums.com/language/ethnic-backround-suffixes-surnames-72736/

"Other typical suffixes of the Ukrainian group are -uk, -czuk (Andrzejuk, Antoniuk, Chilimoniuk, Filipiuk, Grygoruk, Jasiuk, Kononiuk, £ukaszuk, Pawluczuk, Pietruczuk)."

Makaruk, and Demetry Savchuk.

Definitely Ukrainian. There are Poles with surname "Makaruk" (probably with Ukrainian roots), but "Demetry" isn't a Polish name.

Love / How are lesbians seen in Poland (more info inside)? [30]

No. She is trying to be edgy enough to be on teevee.

Portia de Rossi didn't have to be "edgy" to be on TV - she gained popularity by playing a hot heterosexual lawyer on "Ally McBeal" TV series. She came out as a lesbian only after she got into a relationship with Ellen DeGeneres.

She looks Polish:)

She's Czech :)

@Strzelec35, she's 30, so she's too old for you lol

There is always going to be a few exceptions but the vast majority of them are the diesel dyke mechanic type

How do you know? And how would you explain those "exceptions" - why do they exist?

And are gay men homosexual, according to you, because they're ugly and women didn't want them? lol

What about bisexual people of both sexes? How do you homophobes explain their existence? :D

History / How much Poles trust to France? [111]

She can be more foward as she has no offcial function. I doubt Macron disagree with her. I doubt German elite disagree with them.

And what if you're wrong and Le Pen will be even worse than Macron? You like her only because she's a nationalist - like you. That's a selfish, stupid and dangerous attitude.

History / History of Polish-Russian relations [186]

What about Eastern Ukrainians? Or Ukrainians in general?

You mean reconciliation between Poles and Ukrainians?

Personally I'm especially concerned about the rumors that some Eastern Europeans are kidnapped and brainwashed and basically kept in slavery.

You mean Ukrainian refugees being sent by Russians to filtration camps, the pro-Ukrainian ones disappearing without a trace and the rest being sent to far away areas of Russia and kept there against their will, allegedly forced to work for free, Ukrainian children being taken away from their parents, put into orphanages and set up for adoption by Russian couples so they could be brainwashed into being Russians? Yes, I'm very concerned about that too. Those are Stalinist and Nazi-like methods.

History / History of Polish-Russian relations [186]

I don't closely follow Russian public thought.

I did - for seven years.

Vlad1234, so what is your ethnicity?

I thought this thread is dedicated to the history of Polish-Russian relations.

I only mirrored what you wrote yourself (because it can be mirrored perfectly right back at Russia). So what's your problem?

As for "possible reconsiliation"... Now? With a psycho Nazi-like Putinist Russia?? You must be kidding!

. Many Ukrainians still feel connected to Russians through language, culture and history. And religion.

Still? Now? I have the opposite impression - that they don't want to have anything to do with anything Russian anymore. And I can't blame them. I used to be a bit of a Russophile in the past. My discussions with Russians on the internet killed that Russophilia in me to a great extent. The annexation of Crimea killed it completely. And now I don't want to have anything to do with anything Russian. Russian culture, which I liked in the past, is simply dead for me now. I used to be a fan of Russian figure skating, but nowadays I'd probably feel like puking when seeing their performances.

History / History of Polish-Russian relations [186]

@Vlad1234, I think that in the last decades and years Russian public thought had blamed all the historic Russian problems on the West, Poles, Ukrainians, Estonians, Latvians, etc. and has demonized Ukrainians (aka "Nazis"), Poles, etc. and Westerners. But ultimately Russians will need to recognize that history was more complicated than that and not only they suffered or were the heroes.

Feedback / How to reply to a thread on this website? [28]

@Vincent, "Dyrdyma艂ki o Niczem 2" is the only thread on PF that I can't open. What does it have to do with slow internet? GefreiterKania and Cojestdocholery wrote in one Polish thread that they can't get into that thread too. GefreiterKania can read it only on a computer at work.

And why do we have to be logged in to read "Dyrdyma艂ki o Niczem 2" in the first place? The Polish section isn't in Off Topic, so what's the reason for that?

you have reached your maximum number of quotes for 2022, and Admin has sent an electronic pulse to your phone to zap you.

Don't be mean, it's enough that we have a border with Russia, life is tough enough as it is :/

Paulina we invite you to "Kosza艂ki opa艂ki".

But you guys are still writing in "Dyrdyma艂ki o Niczem 2" and I can't read it :/
