Life / Are Polish Women very promiscuous towards foreigners and refugees? [197]

most Polish women have been raised in a Christian home and have been taught that their bodies are holy vessels of God

Pre-marital sex (in the context of a longterm relationship) is the norm in Poland and has been for many, many decades.

What are you basing your opinion on ?

Years of living in both....

Recreational sex can be emotionally devastating for a girl

Define 'recreational sex'.... does that include sex between a married couple using birth control?

I do maintain that long-term promiscuity is very bad for anyone, male or female (the rot manifests differently for men and women but it's inevitable).

But some degree of recreational sex (the amount differs according to the individual) is fine.

. Lyzko was comparing Eastern European women to Westerners

For that to make sense "Eastern European" needs to be defined first.... Poland is a combination of Eastern and Central European features while Czechia is more Central.

Romania is more Eastern (with some Balkan features)....

There was a class(?) of women in Poland and other countries in the region who more or less threw themselves at westerners in hopes of improving their material condition but they weren't the norm even in the toughest times of the early 90s much less now....

History / Life in communist Poland - personal relations [503]

the sad family dealings with communist Poland

Communism in practice is very dysfunctional anywhere.

I don't condemn the family who was trying to get as much as possible from their US relatives (since working harder or smarter didn't guarantee you anything in communist Poland where there wasn't enough of anything.... by design) but I also understand the US relatives getting fed up with it...

the late 1950s, times were so good that they haven't really been duplicated since. Incredible prosperity!

Part of both the American High after WWII and the Great Compression (the period of American history with the least inequality created in part by strict limits on immigration....).

The US is currently is a second Gilded Age with massive inequality... an obscenely wealthy elite class and rampant homelessness and drug addiction... it's a disgrace that Americans put up with it....

In case of Polish women that's a stereotype

Kind of true. compared to the US at least... most Polish people have no idea how deeply puritanism is embedded into the collective US psyche.... making a big deal about sex is a reaction against that and you know what they say about cows that moo a lot in Poland.... (very true of Americans in general).

I remember talking to a british guy who wasn't sure if a Polish woman was into him.... (he had a history of... misjudging situations). I had never seen him and the woman in question interact so I told him to play it cool and if she's interested she'll take the initiative (and she did).

Poland in general has far fewer hang-ups about sex than the US. Mostly that's a very healthy thing.

News / Should Poland pay for gas in rubles? [194]

Udmurtia is a republic, which is highest

booooringgg!!!!!

no one case about how your decrepit and useless country is run....

we earn a $100B every few months, and have literally no idea what to do with it

A living (not moribund) vital country would invest in the citizenry... new schools, improved infrastructure so that hospitals don't have to use wood-burning stoves, expand and improve healthcare... the sky would be the limit....

but in russia 'no idea what do with it' means 'some oligarch stole it' but who cares? we're a great power!

I am so over russia... just .... go away and leave normal countries alone....

News / Scandals, conflicts, tensions, arguments - real life examples from Poland [543]

Newest political scandal!

PiS MP Iwona Arent (who had a very high chance of being high on the PiS electoral list) has had to temporarily withdraw from political life due to a family situation....

It seems her son (29 y.o.) had been accused of beating up his former girlfriend... at first Arent tried to downplay this, saying he didn't do very much that was very bad.... all he did was spit on her and pull her hair... and besides the girl had stolen money from him and his phone....

The it turned out that the son recorded the beating (mostly carried out by a female friend)

Life / Are Polish Women very promiscuous towards foreigners and refugees? [197]

I was thinking in terms of initial attraction than in longterm relationships...

women are more attracted to phenotypes that aren't common in their normal environment than men are, Polish women will be more attracted to a Spanish or Italian guy who shows up in their environment than a Swedish blonde of otherwise similar attractiveness...

men are attracted (more) to 'novelty' in the form of new partners but that usually involves partners who are essentially interchangeable...

I'd say that men are also attracted to what's "exotic" to them

To a lesser extent, almost universally men have a preference for skin tone that is lighter than theirs.... (for example) though men are noticeably less picky than women

novelty. I'm guessing it's about diversity in gene pool

women are (more) attracted to novelty precisely to help guarantee diversity in the gene pool, or women's (greater) attraction to novelty helps guarantee diversity in the gene pool.... (six of one, really).

Off-Topic / Poland - The U.S.A. of Europe [20]

"white trash" is not used in Poland nor is any kind of translation of that....

there are words for those from the underclass.... dresy, blokersi (don't seem to be much of a thing anymore), patalogia, elementy (more about individuals than a class thing) are used, galerianki were semi-prostitute young teens from the underclass (again... not much of a thing anymore AFAICT).

in britain there are 'chavs' of course (iirc bogans are in australia) I heard a word in Maltese (which I've forgotten)...

What category would the word "deepee"

Have no idea what that's supposed to be... in English or in Polish....

Life / Are Polish Women very promiscuous towards foreigners and refugees? [197]

all found Polish wives or girlfriends

women especially are attracted to what's different.... Polish women go crazy for darker complexion guys (from Spain to Africa) while Latin American women melt at the sight of blonde men...

men's taste tends to be a bit more predictable and not related to novelty so much...

Never seen it over here.

Here's a general page about the phenomenon, it happens in Germany too (probably where it began, a funny German thing that never crossed the channel....)

All they do is paint your citizens in a bad light.

Nothing they can do that would come close to what actual American citizens do to paint themselves in a bad light....

When did you start speaking for the Europeans

I was elected official conduit between Yurp and Amerca.... didn't you vote?

Those pics to me mostly display white trash America

It's not much different from Europeans (including Poles) dressing up as American Indians... which has been going on for decades....

It's exotic and weird to Europeans and that's about the extent of it.

Travel / The tick in Poland are very dangerous is it true? [27]

Snakes in Poland are much more deadly

Not really. There's only one dangerous snake (vipera berus - common adder) and it's not that dangerous (a bite would be a miserable experience but generally not life threatening for a healthy adult). They are very unevenly distributed also. Supposedly there are a bit more than usual this year but still bites are pretty rare....

quick and dirty....

thanks for the drawing :)

The recent time has been hard for me but luckily evertything is slowly getting back to normal. I try more and more to look at the future with excitement and with less of the fear that so often accompanied me. I can't wait for what fate brings next. : )

Study / Jagiellonian vs University of Wrocław for a master's degree in English? [15]

he was told he had to have RP

Back in the 90s I knew several Brits who worked there and they were all horrified at the accent that teachers wanted for those in the British section (decades out of date and seemingly calculated to make most people in Britain hate them). They banded together and tried to get something more modern and realistic established as a model... guess that fell apart.

I've worked with a few graduates of the American section and while it's a very... distinctive sound it doesn't sound like GAE (or really anything American) to me at all....

Also exams can be an issue. If a native speaker is freed from 'practical language' classes they might have to take exams that can't be easily passed without a familiarity with the class material...

Study / Jagiellonian vs University of Wrocław for a master's degree in English? [15]

odd that you want to do an English masters in Poland

I've heard of an example or two (by people living here long term).

instruction is through the Polish language

Depends on the university... in one program I knew of all instruction in the department was in English (which just leaves WF and library orientation and things like that in Polish).

If the poster is a native speaker he needs to get everything sorted about things like 'practical English' classes and exams and even accent.
Also some Polish teachers of English get weird and defensive around native speakers.... even as colleagues and the idea of a native speaking student might send them around the bend....

Recently the offspring of an acquaintance (from North America) quit a dual language major because despite being a borderline native speaker they had the 'wrong' accent. The English instructors (Polish) absolutely required British pronunciation and vocabulary and were nasty about it....

I thought Cadillac went bankrupt too.

It's an old American stereotype mostly about poor African Americans but also found in other groups... paying lots of money for something public while living in severe poverty.

Two sides of the same coin.... russia desperately craves respect and attention so it does high profile things that cast massive amounts of money and require huge effort... to try to catch the world's attention.

Making lives better for citizens (if you want to call them that) doesn't do that and so they spend as little as possible on it....

It's like a bankrupt person driving a cadillac... and living in a shack...

Love / Cheating from spouses. Is cheating very common in Poland ? [116]

Women are not loyal

You might want to give this a listen.... it's not that women aren't loya, the word simply has different meanings for men and women (mostly there are exceptions both ways but we're talking about large majorities of men and women).

shorter version: men define loyalty in terms of external obligations, duties and promises while women mostly define loyalties in terms of their own emotions. Lots of behavior that otherwise puzzles the opposite sex is easier to understand once you know this.

Life / Why do Poles talk so badly about Poland? [25]

Usually people make quite a lot "on the side"

In the PRL many people had side hustles.... that's not so much of a thing anymore....

Life / Why do Poles talk so badly about Poland? [25]

Things have changed a lot.... in the early 90s people asked each other how much they made and how much that new shirt or watch cost....

I was always being asked about the cost of living and salaries in the US (I heavily edited my answers to make some kind of sense... trying to explain things like 30 year mortgages that can't be paid off early without paying fines in Polish was a... challenge )

It is true that when Americans report income they tend to use pre-tax figures, add any kind of bonus they can and then round up a bit.

Traditionally Poles when asked would use the lowest possible number (basic take home) and still knock some more off....

Also people who leave their country tend to complain about it.... I've done the same lots of times and at present nothing makes me move along faster on the sidewalk or make an early exit from the bus or streetcar quite like an American voice... if an English speaking person seems to be having problems I might offer to help (like a British couple a few months ago trying to figure out which streetcar to take... the names of the stops didn't indicate their destination) but mostly I think... "Nope." and move on.
