you expect the wife to do

Although in domestic violence it is usually the male who is guitly of battery, but reportedly in about 25% of the cases it's the other way round. Such cases tend to be under-reported because how many men want to admit to all and sundry that the old lady regularly gives him a drubbing?

Hollywood life style concerns only a few hundred people

False! Millions follow, admire and try to imitate Hollywood-promteod lifewstyles and not only unwed mothers or women in general (although females are by far the main readers of celebrity tabloids). Many men also try to emulate the lifestlye and fashions of whichever male role model is being promoted in a given season.

Please don't twist everything. I was referring to those unwed mothers who do not try to make a good home for their kids but live it up with successive boyfriends, usually with a lot of substance abuse thrown in. Is that your idea of a proper setting to raise youngsters in?

That doies not apply to thsoe who wish to make it up to the kids for their youthful foolishness or failed marriage, sacrifice, maybe hold down two jobs and enlist the grandprents assistance to help with the parenting. Such unwed mothers are downright heroic, not slutty.

single mothers who are not happy

I agree and no-one is blaming them any more than soemone whose husband was murdered or their home torched by an arsonsist. These women are also mostly victims. But there is a tendency in some rather influential opinion-moulding celebrity circles to GLAMOURISE single motherhood, sperm banks and test-tube babies as lifestyle options and provide the gullible with cutesy-clever (?) arguments: I don't need no bloke hanging about, I can raise my kid alone, bla-bla-bla.

thundering about single mothers

If you take the trouble to re-read the post, single mothers were not attacked. The criticism was directed at the GALMOURISATION of single motherhood as a lifestyle option rather than the affliction and tragedy it really is, especially for the children involved. The entertainment media are largely to blame for many of society's ills by glamourising the brain-between-his-legs stud, flashy drug dealer, wanton violence, porn, prostitution, etc.

The film "Pretty Woman" was great as films go, well acted, well directed, good costuming, lighting and camerwork. Its upbeat climate and happy ending attracted droves of young girls from rural and small-town America to the big cities for a slice of the "good life". Most ended up disillusioned, exploited, battered, addicted to drugs or in the morgue. Thank you Julia Roberts!

EVER tell you not to tolerate others

No, it tells everyone not to tolerate evil. How does one know what evil is? The 10 Commandments make it plain. What about those who don't follow the 10 Commandments? They are the reason for so much misery, chaos and suffering in this world.

off to destroy society

Just because I may not agree with yoga meditation, vegan diets or herbal medicine nor be personally involved or promoting sports as healthier alternative to netsurfing, or natural food as free of chemicals as possible, or philately or, climbing and a host of other interests and causes, these thing do not pose a threat to society. I am opposed to whatever undermines the moral foundations of society. That includes the glamourisation of risky lifestyles, drugs, perversion, alcohol, unwed motherhood, parent-child conflicts and other counter-culture arrangements as lifestyle options. Also undermining the family and our society's Christian foundations and promoting in their place off-the-wall lifestyles and subcultures.

Plain and simple enough?

it's a wonderful event

Better watch your step. The Bully Brits are sworn anti-clericals, Christophobes and Church-bashers so saying anything positve about Catholicism might face you with expuslion from the inner-sanctum of that unsavoury little clique..

have you got any idea

This is the first time I ever heard of him. I was not reviewing his presentations which I had never heard but that fact that a Catholic retreatmaster could attract such a following in Poland. So far only the Jehovah's Witnesses coull fill a stadium with their religious message. Also the pope, but that's a different category.

is much better known in Poland

Where should he be known best if not in par excellence (desptie your idiotic protests!) CATHOLIC POLAND? Rather than answering in what other EU country could anything but a sporting event or rock concert or the pope himself draw such a following, you (as usual) tried to derail things by saying last time he attracted 80,000 of 100,000 or whatever. Maybe 10 years earlier 1.3 million turned out. But that wasn't the question.Your primitive, simplistic, naive and feeble attempts to derail he discussion whenever you lack substantive arguments (and that's nearly always!) and latch onto some peripheral point like Sunday head counts have been thoroughly seen through by all on PF. Eversyone's got you pegged as the typical Google-based psuedo-intellectual.

And how many of them are only blowhard hypocrites like yourself? Run your portable DNA checker over them and see if they are all true Poles or maybe some are only or wannabees contaminated by pommy genes.

I am left confused,

You've go too little to go on to reach any firm conclusions. It could indeed have oriignally been Bernard or Bernhard but after a generation in Poland people could have Polonised it to Bernat and Bernat's son would have been referred to as Bernatowicz. But that is but one of many possible hypotheses.

Polish authorities absolutely love

I thought we were speaking about Poles, not Polish bureaucrats. All authorities, officials and clerks including Eurocrats love application forms, vouchers, invoices, receipts, inserts, appendices, indexes, paragraphs, subpoints, provisions, stipulations, bla-bla-bla... But few rank and filers do.

no Poland without the Church

One Polish parish came up with a great idea to shake people out of their spiritual lethargy. They draped a banner across the church's façade showing men carrying a coffin to church. The inscription read: SUNDAY. GO TO CHURCH. DON'T WAIT TILL THEY CARRY YOU THERE!"

Some said it would turn people away, but others said something controversial was needed to get people's attention. The mastermind Father Krawczyk said it has served its purpose because some are for and some against but at least it's got people discussing.

Merged: 40,00 at Poland National Stadium for Catholic retreat

40,000 faithful turned up at a retreat conducted at National Stadium by Father Bashobory from Uganda. Long queues formed to have their confession heard. It was heartening to see the number of young worshipers in attendance. In most other EU countries you'd need a sporting event or rock concert to draw a crowd that size, yet another sign that this truly is CATHOLIC POLAND!

Law / The right to own guns: would you support such legislation in Poland? [2237]

This is why no country has ever tried to set foot on American soil

That's an itneresting point. I've nevr heard it formulated that way. I have personally opposed private gun ownership esp. as regards combat weapons. I wonder if in the case of an attack by ISIS on US soil would gun-owners rise to form a rag-tag army to oppose them?

The focus must be on Poland

Poles love paperwork

I've never met a Pole who does. They have had it forced down their throats by the partitioning powers, Hitler, Stalin, PRL and most recently the Tuskites. He pledged less redtape, businessmen could handle everything at a single "window", but we all know what PO promises are like. We now have more bureacracy than ever.

Pocengal

Nothing with that spelling which may have been midified abroad. The closest I could find was:
POCIĘGIEL: probably from the verb pociągać (to pull, yank). Most any Polish surname can be and has been used by Jews, so Slavic names are not ethnic identifiers for Jews or other non-Slavs.

Polish people have Polish citizenship.

You could have 10 passports, seven visas and 30 others scraps of paper but none of that would improve your halting Polish. Besides knowing the language thoroughly, one has to feel the country, its heartbeat and heritage and a considerable part thereof is Catholicism. As I've said: Zlata Praha awaits -- a city of godless beer guzzlers galore!!

on-topic

Take it off-line if you like. All that regimentation, rules, regulations, fine print and other bureaucratic bollocks make absolutely no differnece to me. I'm no horse-blinkered paper worshipper. The main thing is to communicate -- the channels, structures, procedures, bla_bla-bla are in 47th or maybe 99th place as far as I'm concerned..

specific and untypical audience

Every audience is specific and untypical to some extent -- you haven't discovered America. At a SLD Mayday event the place s crawlign with ex-commies, at a rock concert immatutre and unruly "pimple people" (teenagers) dominate. So is it all that surprising that at Jasna Góra you don't see too many pole dancers or porn stars but people who take their faith seriously. You do like truisms which seem to shock and bewilder you.

That makes no sense

Oh but it does. People who are rich, fat, flabby,self-satisfied and conceited feel they are their own gods. Religion gives solace to those in need, the downtrodden, sick and abandoned. And on balance they are probaly more worthwhile humans than the arrogant, fat swine wallowing in luxury and looking down on their fellow-man.

religion provided a rallying point

You know the story of the golden calf. Or the Polish saying: Jak trwoga to do Boga. Jak bida to do Żyda (for credit). That never changes. That's why the rich, fat, flabby and luxophilic are usually moral zeroes.

Poles chose to not do the very minimum

You have indicated you know and respect many Catholics who are decent people but, according to your definiton of fulfilling the bare minimum, are they really Catholics or just hypocrites? Have you ever asked them about this? You're constantly obsessing and spouting off about it on PF.
